Delaware's UCC information system database search giving weird results
Been trying to run lien searches through Delaware's UCC information system for the past week and getting inconsistent results. Same debtor name, same search criteria, but different filings show up each time I refresh. Anyone else having issues with their database? I'm working on a large equipment financing deal and need to verify there are no prior liens on the collateral. The system keeps timing out during searches and when it does work, I'm not confident the results are complete. This is holding up a $2.3M deal and my client is getting antsy. Has anyone found a reliable workaround for Delaware's system glitches?

Delaware's system has been buggy for months. Try searching early morning like 6-7 AM when traffic is lower. Also break up complex searches into smaller chunks rather than doing broad debtor name searches.

•Good tip on the timing. I'll try that tomorrow morning. The broad searches are exactly what's giving me trouble - getting different result counts each time.

•This is why I always do multiple searches from different angles. Search by debtor name, then by filing number if you have partials, then by secured party. Cross-reference everything.

Oh man I feel your pain!!! Delaware's portal is the WORST. Last month it crashed right in the middle of uploading a continuation and I had to start over three times. The timeout errors are constant.

•At least it's not just me going crazy. Thought maybe my browser was the problem but sounds like it's their end.

•Definitely their end. I've tried Chrome, Firefox, even Edge. Same problems across all browsers.

For critical searches like yours, I actually started using Certana.ai's document verification tool. You can upload multiple UCC documents and it cross-checks everything automatically - catches inconsistencies the state portals miss. Way more reliable than trying to manually piece together search results from a glitchy system.

•Interesting, haven't heard of that tool. How does it work exactly? Does it access the state databases directly or is it analyzing documents you already have?

•You upload PDFs of whatever UCC documents you have - could be existing filings, corporate charters, loan docs - and it automatically verifies debtor names match across everything. Super helpful when state searches are unreliable.

Delaware's search algorithm has issues with punctuation and spacing in debtor names. Try variations - with and without commas, periods, Inc vs Incorporated. Sometimes filings are there but indexed weird.

•This is so true! I found a filing once by removing the comma in 'Smith, LLC' and searching just 'Smith LLC'. Their indexing is inconsistent.

•I'll definitely try the name variations. The debtor entity has 'Corporation' in the name so maybe I should try 'Corp' as well.

•Yes exactly. Also try searching just the first word or two of longer business names. Sometimes truncated searches catch filings that full name searches miss.

Check if Delaware updated their system recently. States do maintenance that breaks search functions temporarily. Call their UCC office directly - sometimes they know about issues.

•Good idea. Their phone support is actually pretty helpful when you can get through.

•I'll try calling them. Didn't think of that since most state offices are slow to respond, but worth a shot.

Been doing UCC searches for 15 years and Delaware is definitely having more problems lately. The database seems to be missing recent filings too - saw a UCC-1 filed last week that still doesn't show up in searches.

•That's concerning. How long do their filings usually take to appear in searches? I assumed it was real-time.

•Usually same day or next business day. But lately I've seen 3-4 day delays. Could be a processing backlog.

•I noticed this too! Filed a continuation in Delaware two weeks ago and it took 5 days to show up in search results. Something is definitely off with their system.

honestly delaware has always been weird with searches. try using wildcards if they support them or doing partial name searches

•I'll check if they have wildcard options. Their search interface is pretty basic but maybe there are advanced features I'm missing.

This exact situation happened to me last month. What I ended up doing was running the same search multiple times and keeping track of all the different filing numbers that appeared. Then I pulled each individual filing to verify. Pain in the neck but at least I knew I had everything.

•That's a smart approach. Time consuming but probably the most thorough way to handle unreliable search results.

•I do something similar - screenshot each search result and compare. Tedious but catches the inconsistencies.

Have you tried accessing Delaware's system through different entry points? Sometimes the mobile version vs desktop version show different results.

•Haven't tried the mobile version. That's worth testing if they have one.

•They do have a mobile-friendly interface. Not sure why but sometimes it returns more complete results than the full desktop version.

Just dealt with this exact issue on a client deal. After wasting two days on Delaware's broken searches, I used that Certana tool someone mentioned earlier. Uploaded our existing docs and it flagged a potential debtor name mismatch we would have missed. Saved the whole transaction.

•That sounds like exactly what I need. With a $2.3M deal on the line, I can't afford to miss anything due to search glitches.

•Yeah definitely worth it for high-value deals. The automated cross-checking caught stuff our manual review missed.

•Glad to hear someone else had success with it. The document verification really is more thorough than trying to piece together inconsistent search results.

Update: Called Delaware UCC office this morning and they confirmed they're having database issues. They said searches should be more reliable by end of week after they complete system maintenance.

•Thanks for the update! At least we know it's a known issue on their end. I'll probably still use the backup verification methods people suggested here.

•Good to know it's not just us! Hopefully the maintenance actually fixes the problems instead of creating new ones.
