FAFSA application disappeared from dashboard - shows 'No applications' after being 'in review'
I'm freaking out right now. My daughter and I submitted her 2025-26 FAFSA on December 31st (right before the priority deadline for her top school). We checked on January 24th and it showed 'in review' status - all good, we thought we'd just wait. Today I logged in to check again and now the 'My Activity' section says 'You don't have any cases or applications'! The entire application seems to have vanished! Do we need to complete everything again? Will this mess up her priority consideration? Has anyone else had their FAFSA application disappear after submission?

•That makes me feel slightly better that I'm not alone. Did you call the FSA helpline yet? I tried but got disconnected after waiting 45 minutes.

This is a known technical issue with the studentaid.gov dashboard that's affecting many applicants right now. The good news is that your FAFSA submission likely wasn't lost - the system is just not displaying it correctly. Here's what I recommend: 1. Take a screenshot of what you're seeing for documentation 2. Check your email for the original submission confirmation 3. Contact your daughter's school financial aid office to verify they received the FAFSA 4. Try logging in using a different browser or clearing your cache The Department of Education is aware of this display issue and working on a fix. In most cases I've seen, the applications are still in the system despite not showing on the dashboard.

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! I did find the original confirmation email from December (thank goodness). I'll try a different browser right now and then contact the school tomorrow if it's still not showing up.

There's a temporary workaround you can try. Click on the "Apply for Aid" tab, then select "Renew My FAFSA Form" - if it takes you to a page saying you already have a FAFSA on file for 2025-2026, then your application is still in the system. The dashboard view is just broken for many users right now.

•OMG THANK YOU!!! I just tried this and it does say I have one on file! Such a relief. Why wouldn't they put some kind of notice about this issue on their website?

•Calm down, it's probably just a glitch in the system. Mine disappeared too but came back next day. The schools still got it.

I had a similar issue last week and spent HOURS trying to get through to someone at Federal Student Aid. After getting disconnected multiple times, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me connect to an actual FAFSA agent without the usual wait time. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent confirmed this is a known display issue affecting many applicants right now. Your application data is safe in their system even though it's not displaying correctly on the dashboard. They suggested checking with your school's financial aid office to verify they can see your submission.

•Thank you for the tip! I might try this service tomorrow if I still can't get through. Did the agent give any timeline for when the display issue will be fixed?

•They couldn't give me an exact date, but said they're working on it as a priority issue. The important thing is that our applications are still in their system and being processed - the schools can still access them even if we can't see them on our dashboard.

dont trust what anyone here says, CALL YOUR SCHOOLS FINANCIAL AID OFFICE DIRECTLY!! they can tell you if they received your fafsa or not. thats the only way to know for sure. my daughters fafsa disappeared too but her school confirmed they have it. dont risk losing thousands in aid by trusting a website glitch

•You're absolutely right - I'm definitely calling them tomorrow morning. The workaround someone suggested above showed me that it's still in the system, but I'll feel better hearing directly from the school.

lol this new FAFSA is such a mess... first it launches months late, then the SAI calculations were wrong, now applications are disappearing from the dashboard 🤦♀️ and people wonder why students are stressed about college finances

Update: The Department of Education just posted on their social media that they're aware of the dashboard display issue and confirmed it DOES NOT affect your actual FAFSA submission. They expect to resolve the display problem within 72 hours. Your schools can still access your FAFSA data during this time.

•Thank you for sharing this update! That's very reassuring. I'll still contact my daughter's school tomorrow just to double-check, but this makes me feel much better.

So glad to hear everyone's applications are showing up again! This was such a stressful situation but it's reassuring to see how this community came together to help troubleshoot and support each other. For anyone still experiencing issues, the tips shared here (checking email confirmations, trying the "Renew FAFSA" workaround, contacting schools directly) are all solid advice. It's frustrating that these technical glitches happen during such a critical time, but at least we know the actual submissions weren't lost. Thanks to everyone who shared updates and solutions!

•This whole experience really shows how much we need better communication from the Department of Education when these issues happen! I'm new here but went through something similar with my son's FAFSA last year. One thing I learned is to always keep screenshots and email confirmations - they're lifesavers when technical glitches like this occur. It's great to see how helpful everyone was in sharing workarounds and updates. Definitely bookmarking this thread for future reference!

I'm so relieved to find this thread! I'm a parent going through this exact same nightmare - my son's FAFSA disappeared from our dashboard yesterday and I've been panicking all morning. Reading through everyone's experiences and solutions has been incredibly helpful. The workaround mentioned by Brady about checking "Renew My FAFSA Form" worked for me too - it confirmed our application is still in the system! I also took screenshots of everything as suggested and will be calling his college's financial aid office first thing Monday morning. It's frustrating that the Department of Education didn't proactively communicate about this widespread issue, but I'm grateful for communities like this where we can help each other navigate these stressful situations. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and solutions!

•Welcome to the community, Darcy! I'm so glad you found this thread helpful during such a stressful time. It's amazing how many of us were going through the exact same panic - I was literally losing sleep over this until everyone here helped figure out what was happening. The workaround Brady shared was a lifesaver! I ended up calling my daughter's school too and they confirmed they had received everything, which gave me such peace of mind. You're absolutely right about the Department of Education needing better communication - a simple banner on their website saying "dashboard display issue, your applications are safe" would have saved so many families from unnecessary stress. Hope your son's financial aid process goes smoothly from here!

Just wanted to share my experience as someone who went through this exact same panic last week! My daughter's FAFSA also completely vanished from the dashboard after showing "in review" for weeks. I was absolutely terrified we'd have to start over and miss all her scholarship deadlines. After reading similar posts here and trying the workarounds people suggested, I called her top choice school directly. The financial aid counselor was super understanding and confirmed they had received her FAFSA data on their end - apparently they've been getting tons of calls about this dashboard issue. She even walked me through their internal system to show me exactly what information they had received and when. The whole ordeal taught me to always keep multiple forms of documentation and to establish direct contact with the schools' financial aid offices early in the process. So grateful for communities like this where we can support each other through these stressful technical glitches!

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Carmen! It's such a relief to hear from someone who went through the same panic and came out the other side successfully. Your point about establishing direct contact with financial aid offices early is really valuable advice - I wish I had thought to do that from the beginning instead of waiting for this crisis to happen. The fact that the counselor could actually show you their internal system and confirm everything was there must have been such a huge weight off your shoulders. I'm definitely going to be more proactive about documentation and school communication for any future applications. It's stories like yours that make this community so helpful during these stressful times!
