Won my ESD appeal - how long until benefits actually arrive?
Just got the decision letter today saying I won my appeal against ESD's disqualification! After 8 weeks of stress and zero income, this feels like such a relief. The letter says the decision is 'final and binding' but doesn't say anything about when I'll actually see money in my account. My rent is due on the 15th (only 10 days away) and I'm really hoping the payment comes through before then. Anyone here been through the appeal process? How long did it take between winning your appeal and actually getting your benefits paid out? Did they pay everything at once or in chunks? And did you have to do anything extra to make it happen, or does ESD automatically process it once the decision is made? I'm trying not to get my hopes up for immediate payment, but my landlord is already making noise about late fees...

congrats on winning!!!! i won my appeal back in february after like 3 months of fighting with them. it took about 2 weeks for the money to hit my account but my friend got hers in like 6 days so its totally random i think. they did pay all my back benefits in one big deposit tho which was AMAZING.

•Thanks for the response! 6 days to 2 weeks is a pretty big range. Did either of you have to call ESD to make sure they processed it, or did they just do it automatically after the appeal decision?

Congratulations on your appeal victory! When I won my appeal last year, it took approximately 7-10 business days for ESD to process the payment. The important thing to understand is that your appeal decision gets sent back to ESD, and they still need to process it in their system before payment is released. I recommend doing two things immediately: 1) Call ESD first thing Monday morning to confirm they've received the appeal decision and ask about the timeline for payment processing 2) File any weekly claims you might have missed during the appeal process (you only have a limited window to backdate these) Typically, they'll pay all back benefits in one lump sum direct deposit, including any weeks that were previously denied due to the disqualification that you appealed.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't realize I might need to file backdated weekly claims - I've been filing every week despite the disqualification, but it's good to know I should check for any that might have been missed. I'll definitely call Monday morning.

they NEVER answer their phones though!!! i tried calling everyday for THREE WEEKS straight before my appeal and never got through once. the system is designed to keep us from getting help!!!

•I was having the same problem trying to reach ESD for weeks - completely impossible to get through on their regular line! I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual ESD agent in less than 30 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 It worked perfectly when I needed to check on my adjudication status last month. Might be worth trying if you need to confirm they're processing your appeal payment.

Just to add some practical information about post-appeal payments: After the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) issues a decision in your favor, they send the decision to ESD for implementation. ESD typically takes 5-12 business days to process and release payments, depending on their current workload. If your rent is due on the 15th, you're cutting it close but there's a good chance the payment will arrive in time. However, I'd recommend having a backup plan for your rent just in case there's a delay. One thing that can help speed up the process: call the ESD claims center and specifically ask if there are any additional "release holds" on your account that need to be cleared following the appeal. Sometimes there are additional verification steps required even after an appeal is won. And yes, they typically pay all back benefits at once, including any weeks you properly filed claims for during the appeal process.

•This is why I always tell ppl to get their denial decisions appealed immediately!!! The system is designed to discourage appeals bc they know most ppl will just give up. I waited too long to appeal my denial last yr & lost out on thousands. The 30-day window to appeal goes by FAST.

my brother won his appeal but ESD ✨still✨ messed up the payments and only gave him part of what he was owed. he had to call like 20 times to get it fixed. don't assume they'll get it right the first time!!! check all your weeks and payment amounts when it finally comes through

•Oh no, that's concerning. Did he eventually get all the money he was owed? How long did the whole process take from winning the appeal to getting all payments correctly?

One more thing to be aware of: if you've been filing your weekly claims during the appeal process (which you should have been), those pending weeks should process automatically once ESD implements the appeal decision. However, if there were any weeks you didn't file claims for during the disqualification period, you may need to request backdating for those specific weeks. ESD has a backdating request form available on their website, or you can ask about it when you call. You'll need to provide a good cause reason for not filing timely weekly claims, though in appeal cases they're usually more understanding about this.

•Thanks again! Yes, I've been filing every week despite the disqualification. The ESD representative at my hearing actually told me to keep filing regardless of the outcome, so I've been doing that. I'll check my eServices account to make sure all weeks are showing up correctly.

I won an appeal last month for a similar situation. Here's my timeline: - Appeal decision received: May 3rd - Called ESD to confirm: May 4th - Payment showed in my account: May 9th (4 business days later) I did use Claimyr to get through to ESD quickly after winning my appeal, which probably helped speed things up. When I got through, I asked the agent to check if any additional action was needed on my part. They confirmed everything was in order and told me exactly when to expect payment. FYI - they paid everything in one lump sum, which was nice, but it did trigger a fraud alert with my bank! So you might want to give your bank a heads-up if you're expecting a large deposit.

•That's a good timeline, gives me hope! And thanks for the tip about the bank - I hadn't thought about that. I'll give them a call and let them know I'm expecting a larger than normal deposit soon.

Update us once you get paid! It's always helpful for other claimants to know current processing times. ESD's timeframes have been fluctuating a lot lately - I've seen some people get paid within 3-4 days after appeal decisions while others wait 2+ weeks. Calling them to confirm they've received the appeal decision is definitely the most important step.

•Will do! I'm going to try calling first thing Monday morning. Fingers crossed I can actually get through to someone who can help me confirm everything's on track.

•Hang in there! My hearing took about 6 weeks to get scheduled after I filed the appeal. The waiting is really stressful, but it's worth fighting if you believe ESD made a mistake. Hope your hearing goes well!

UPDATE: Got through to ESD this morning! Used the Claimyr service that someone suggested and it worked perfectly - got connected in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed they received my appeal decision and said the system shows my payment should process in 5-7 business days. She also verified all my weekly claims were in the system correctly. The relief is real! Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I'll update again when the money actually hits my account.
