When will I get my first unemployment payment from Washington ESD?
I just filed my initial unemployment claim with Washington ESD last Tuesday and completed my first weekly claim on Sunday. My claim shows as 'processed' but I haven't received any payment yet. I'm getting really anxious because I need to pay rent next week. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to get your first unemployment payment after filing? I've never been on unemployment before so I'm not sure what to expect.

Usually takes about 10-14 days for your first payment after you file your initial claim and complete your first weekly claim. The waiting week requirement was eliminated a few years ago so you should get paid for that first week.

•That's a relief! I was worried I'd have to wait a month or something. Thanks for letting me know about the waiting week thing.

•Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims every Sunday even if you haven't been paid yet. If you miss filing, you won't get paid for that week.

The timeline can vary depending on whether your claim needs adjudication. If Washington ESD needs to verify your employment history or if there are any issues with your eligibility, it could take longer. Check your account for any pending issues or requests for additional information.

•I checked and don't see any pending issues. My claim status just says 'active' and my weekly claim shows as 'processed'.

•That's good news. If there are no adjudication issues, you should receive payment within the normal timeframe. Payments are typically processed on Tuesday/Wednesday and arrive by direct deposit or debit card.

I had the same anxiety when I first filed! My first payment took exactly 12 days from when I filed my initial claim. If you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD to check on your payment status, I discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•Thanks! I might check that out if I don't get paid by next week. The phone lines are always busy when I try calling.

•Is that service legit? I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for weeks about my claim status.

•Yeah it's legitimate. It basically calls Washington ESD for you and gets you connected to an actual agent instead of waiting on hold forever. Saved me hours of frustration.

make sure you signed up for direct deposit or you'll be waiting even longer for a debit card to arrive in the mail

•I did set up direct deposit during the application process. Should I be getting an email notification when payment is sent?

•You should receive an email confirmation when your payment is processed. Check your spam folder if you don't see it in your inbox.

The system is SO slow right now. I've been waiting 3 weeks for my first payment and Washington ESD keeps telling me to 'be patient' when I call. This is ridiculous when people need money to survive!

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm worried about! Did they tell you why it's taking so long?

•They said something about 'verification processing' but wouldn't give me specifics. I'm about to lose my apartment because of this delay.

•That sounds like your claim might be in adjudication. Check your online account for any pending determinations or requests for information.

Don't panic yet! Most people get their first payment within 2 weeks if there are no issues with their claim. The key is making sure you file your weekly claims on time every week.

•I've been filing every Sunday like clockwork. Hopefully that keeps things moving smoothly.

I remember when I first filed, I was checking my bank account every day like a crazy person lol. The money will come, just be patient. Washington ESD is slow but they eventually pay what you're owed.

•Haha that's exactly what I'm doing! Checking my account multiple times a day. Good to know I'm not the only one who did that.

•We've all been there! The waiting is the worst part, especially when you're stressed about bills.

Pro tip: payments are usually processed Tuesday through Thursday, so don't expect anything on Mondays or Fridays. Also make sure your direct deposit information is correct in your account settings.

•Good to know about the timing! I'll stop obsessively checking on weekends then.

If you're really worried, you can try calling Washington ESD but good luck getting through. I spent literally 6 hours on hold last week just to ask a simple question about my payment date.

•That's exactly why I started using Claimyr. No more sitting on hold for hours just to talk to someone for 2 minutes.

•I might have to try that. This whole process is so frustrating when you just need basic information.

Just went through this same thing last month. Filed on a Wednesday, first weekly claim on Sunday, got paid the following Thursday. So about 8 days total from filing to receiving payment. Hang in there!

•That gives me hope! Today would be day 8 for me so maybe I'll see something tomorrow or Friday.

•Fingers crossed for you! The first payment is always the most nerve-wracking because you don't know what to expect.

Make sure you didn't accidentally select the debit card option instead of direct deposit. The debit cards take like 7-10 business days to arrive in the mail before you can access your money.

•I double-checked and I definitely selected direct deposit. Hopefully that speeds things up.

The anxiety is real! I couldn't sleep for days waiting for my first payment. But once it starts coming regularly, you'll feel so much better. Washington ESD isn't perfect but they do eventually pay.

One more thing to check - make sure your bank doesn't have any restrictions on ACH deposits from government agencies. Some banks flag these as suspicious and delay them. You might want to call your bank to let them know to expect the deposit.

•That's a really good point! I'll call my bank tomorrow morning just to be safe.

•My credit union actually held my first unemployment payment for 3 days until I called and confirmed it was legitimate. Definitely worth giving them a heads up.

Washington ESD has been pretty reliable with payments lately. I've been getting mine every week like clockwork. The first one is just slower because they have to set everything up in the system.

•That's encouraging to hear! I was worried there might be ongoing issues with the system.

If it makes you feel better, I got my first payment on day 11. It was a Thursday morning and I literally screamed when I saw it in my account lol. The relief was incredible.

Update us when you get your payment! It's always nice to hear success stories. And seriously, if you need to contact Washington ESD for any reason, Claimyr saved my sanity. Much better than sitting on hold forever.

•I definitely will! And thanks again for the Claimyr recommendation. I bookmarked it just in case I need it.

The waiting is awful but try not to stress too much. Washington ESD is actually pretty good about getting that first payment out within 2 weeks. Just keep filing your weekly claims and it'll come through.
