When do you get paid from unemployment benefits in Washington ESD?
I just filed my first weekly claim on Sunday and I'm wondering when the actual payment shows up. I know I have to file every week but nobody explained the timing of when the money actually hits your account. Is it the same day you file or does it take a few days? I'm pretty stressed about bills coming due and need to know when I can expect the deposit.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim for the payment to show up in your account. So if you filed Sunday, you'd probably see it Tuesday or Wednesday.

•Thanks! That's actually faster than I expected. Do you know if it comes as direct deposit or do they mail checks?

•If you set up direct deposit it goes straight to your bank account. Much faster than waiting for a check in the mail.

The payment schedule depends on when you file your weekly claim. Washington ESD processes payments Monday through Friday, so weekend filings get processed on Monday. Direct deposit typically arrives 1-2 business days after processing.

•What if there's a holiday? Does that delay everything?

Michael Green
•Yes, bank holidays can delay direct deposits by an extra day. Washington ESD still processes on their end but banks don't transfer on holidays.

I've been getting mine every Tuesday like clockwork since I started filing in January. I file Sunday night and it's always there Tuesday morning.

•That's reassuring to hear! Did you have any issues setting up the direct deposit initially?

Victoria Jones
•Nope, just had to enter my bank routing and account numbers in the SAW system. Pretty straightforward.

Be careful about filing late though. If you miss the deadline to file your weekly claim you might not get paid for that week at all.

•What's the deadline? I thought you had all week to file?

Cameron Black
•You have to file by 11:59 PM on Saturday for that week. Miss it and you lose that week's benefits unless you have a really good reason.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on payment issues, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me reach an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.

•How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you?

Isaiah Thompson
•They basically automate the calling process and get you connected to an actual Washington ESD agent. Way better than sitting there redialing for hours.

•Same here, Wednesday is pretty typical for me too.

•Good to know it's consistent at least. I was worried it might be random.

One thing to watch out for - if your claim is under adjudication for any reason, payments get held up until that's resolved. Could take weeks depending on the issue.

•How do you know if your claim is in adjudication? Does it show up somewhere in your account?
0 coins
Hannah White
•Yeah, it'll show in your SAW account under claim status. Usually says something like 'adjudication in progress' or 'pending review'.

The Washington ESD payment system is actually pretty reliable once you get into the routine. Been filing for 4 months now and only had one payment delayed due to a bank holiday.

•That's good to hear. I was reading horror stories online about people not getting paid for weeks.

•Those are usually people who had issues with their claims or didn't file weekly. If everything's straightforward it works pretty smoothly.

MAKE SURE YOU KEEP TRACK OF YOUR JOB SEARCH ACTIVITIES! They can audit you anytime and if you don't have your job search log you could lose benefits.

•How many jobs do you have to apply to each week?

Evelyn Martinez
•Three job contacts per week minimum. And you need to document everything - employer name, date, method of contact, all of it.

If you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about payment timing or any other issues, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but it got me through to an agent in like 15 minutes instead of calling all day.

•Is there a cost for using it?

Benjamin Carter
•There is but it was worth it for me to actually talk to someone and get my questions answered instead of guessing.

Just want to add that if you're on standby status the payment timing might be different. I'm on temporary layoff and my payments come through on a different schedule.

Nick Kravitz
•What's standby status? I don't think that applies to me but curious.
0 coins
Isaac Wright
•It's for people who expect to return to their job within a specific timeframe, like seasonal workers or temporary layoffs.

Don't forget about taxes! Washington doesn't tax unemployment benefits but the federal government does. You might want to have them withhold taxes or set money aside.
0 coins
Nick Kravitz
•Oh good point. Can you set that up in the SAW system?
0 coins
Lucy Taylor
•Yes, there's an option to have 10% withheld for federal taxes when you're setting up your claim or you can change it later.

•That sounds like your claim might be in adjudication. Have you checked your account status online?

•yeah it just says pending but no explanation of what they're waiting for

•This is exactly the kind of situation where Claimyr helped me. Got through to an agent who explained what was holding up my claim.

Payment timing also depends on your bank sometimes. My credit union takes an extra day compared to bigger banks for some reason.

Nick Kravitz
•Interesting, I have a small local bank so maybe that'll affect mine too.

•Just factor in maybe one extra day if you're with a smaller institution. The money's coming, just might take a little longer to show up.

I remember my first week being nervous about the payment timing too. Now it's just part of my weekly routine - file Sunday, money shows up Tuesday or Wednesday, life goes on.

•Yeah I'm sure I'll get used to it. Just stressful when you're relying on it for bills.

•Totally understand. Once you see that first payment hit your account you'll feel much better about the whole process.

One more tip - if you ever have issues with payments not showing up, don't wait too long to contact Washington ESD. Sometimes there are system glitches that need to be fixed on their end.

•How long should you wait before calling? Don't want to bother them if it's just normal processing time.

Kaiya Rivera
•I'd say if it's been more than 5 business days since you filed and you normally get paid faster, that's when to reach out.

The whole system seems complicated at first but it's actually pretty straightforward once you understand the rhythm. File weekly, wait 2-3 days, money arrives. Just don't forget to keep doing your job search activities!

Just wanted to mention that if anyone's still having trouble reaching Washington ESD agents, that Claimyr service has been a lifesaver for me multiple times. Worth checking out their demo video to see how simple it is.

•I might need to try that if I run into any issues. Good to know it's there as an option.

•Definitely keep it in mind. So much better than spending your whole day trying to get through on the phone.

Hope your first payment comes through smoothly! The waiting is always the hardest part but Washington ESD is generally pretty reliable with the payment timing once everything's set up properly.
