How long does it take to get my unemployment check from Washington ESD?
I just filed my first weekly claim on Sunday and I'm wondering when I should expect to see the money in my account. My claim status shows approved but I haven't received anything yet. This is my first time on unemployment so I'm not sure what the normal timeline is. Do they pay out on specific days of the week? Should I be worried that it's taking this long?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim if everything is approved. Washington ESD processes payments Tuesday through Thursday typically. What day did you submit your weekly claim?

•I filed it Sunday evening around 8pm. So maybe I should see it by Wednesday or Thursday?

•Yeah that sounds about right. Just make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your account.

depends on your bank too, some take longer to process the deposits from washington esd. mine usually shows up wednesday morning but my friend with a different bank doesn't get hers until friday

If this is your very first payment, it might take a bit longer than usual. Washington ESD sometimes does additional verification on first payments. Check your account to make sure there are no pending issues or ID verification requests.

•I checked and don't see any issues listed. My claim status just says 'paid' for last week.

•That's good! If it says paid, the money should hit your account within the next day or two.

•Sometimes there's a delay between when it shows 'paid' and when you actually get the deposit. Don't panic if it takes until Friday.

UGH the waiting is the WORST part! I remember my first time filing, I was checking my bank account every hour like a crazy person. Washington ESD really needs to be more clear about their payment schedules.

•YES exactly! I've been refreshing my banking app constantly. It's so stressful when you need the money.

I had issues reaching Washington ESD when my payments were delayed last month. Spent hours trying to call them. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Might be helpful if you need to check on your payment status directly with Washington ESD.

•Interesting, I've never heard of that. How does it work exactly?

•Basically they handle the calling process for you so you don't have to sit on hold for hours. Pretty straightforward to use.

•Is that like a paid service? Seems sketchy to use a third party for government stuff.

•I understand the hesitation, but it's legit. They just help you get through the phone system, they don't handle any personal info or claims.

The payment timing also depends on whether you have any work to report. If you worked any hours or earned any money during your claim week, Washington ESD has to calculate your partial payment which can add a day or two to processing.

•I didn't work at all last week so it should be straightforward. Thanks for the info though!

•Good point about partial payments. Those always seem to take longer to process.

Just a heads up - Washington ESD doesn't pay for the first week (waiting week) so make sure you're not expecting payment for that initial week when you first filed your claim.

•Oh wait, what do you mean by waiting week? I filed my initial claim two weeks ago.

•The very first week of your claim period is called a waiting week - you file for it but don't get paid for it. It's like a one-week penalty. So if you filed your claim 2 weeks ago, you should have filed weekly claims for both weeks but only get paid for the second week.

•Ohhh that makes sense. Yeah I think the payment I'm waiting for is for last week, not my very first week.

Pro tip: sign up for text alerts from your bank so you know immediately when the deposit hits. Saves you from constantly checking your account balance.

•That's smart! I'm definitely going to set that up right now.

•Yeah the text notifications are a lifesaver. Much better than obsessively checking the app.

Washington ESD's payment system is actually pretty reliable once you get into the routine. The first payment always feels like it takes forever because you're anxious about it. After a few weeks you'll know exactly when to expect it.

•That's reassuring to hear. I'm probably just being impatient because I really need the money right now.

•We've all been there! The financial stress makes every day feel like a week when you're waiting for that payment.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims on time even while waiting for this payment. Missing a week can cause delays and complications with future payments.

•Good reminder! I already have a calendar alert set for every Sunday.

If you don't see the payment by Friday, that's when I'd start to worry. But honestly, Tuesday-Thursday is the normal window so you should be fine.

•Ok I'll try to be patient until Friday. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!

One more thing - if you ever do have payment delays, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier is actually worth checking out. I used it when I had an adjudication issue that was holding up my payments. Much easier than trying to get through to Washington ESD on your own.

•I'll keep that in mind if I run into problems. Hopefully I won't need it though!

just wanted to say hang in there, the first few weeks of unemployment are always the most stressful while you're figuring everything out
