What do you need to bring to the unemployment office Washington ESD appointment?
I have an in-person appointment at the Washington ESD office next week for my unemployment claim and I'm not sure what documents I should bring. They said to bring supporting documentation but didn't specify exactly what. Has anyone been to one of these appointments recently? I don't want to show up unprepared and have to reschedule.

Bring your ID, Social Security card, and any separation paperwork from your last job. Also bring bank statements if they're asking about income verification.

•Thanks! I have all of those. Should I bring pay stubs too or just the separation notice?

•Bring your last few pay stubs if you have them. Better to have too much documentation than not enough.

what kind of appointment is it? if its for adjudication bring everything related to why you left your job

•It's for adjudication, yes. My employer is disputing my claim saying I quit but I was actually laid off due to lack of work.

•definitely bring any emails or written notice about the layoff then. anything that proves it wasn't voluntary

I had a similar appointment last month and honestly it was a nightmare trying to get through to them beforehand to clarify what I needed. I ended up using Claimyr to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD who could tell me exactly what to bring. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Much easier than sitting on hold for hours.

•That sounds helpful! How does Claimyr work exactly? Do they just help you get through to someone faster?

Zoe Stavros
•Yeah exactly, they handle the calling and waiting so you don't have to. They'll call you back when they get someone on the line. Saved me probably 3 hours of hold time.

•Never heard of that service but honestly anything is better than waiting on hold forever with Washington ESD

For adjudication appointments, bring: 1) Photo ID 2) Social Security card 3) Separation documentation 4) Any correspondence with your employer about the separation 5) Work search log if they've asked for it 6) Bank statements for the last 2 months. Also bring a pen and notebook to take notes during the meeting.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't think about bringing a notebook but that's a great idea.

•Why bank statements? I thought those were only for overpayment issues?

•They sometimes want to verify you haven't had unreported income. Better safe than sorry.

OMG I'm so nervous about my appointment next week too! What if I forget something important? This whole process is so stressful and confusing.

•I know right? I keep second-guessing everything. At least we're both preparing ahead of time!

•Don't stress too much. If you forget something they'll usually give you a chance to provide it later. Just bring what you can.

Been through this before - they basically want proof of everything. Your work history, why you're unemployed, that you're actively looking for work. It's like they assume everyone is lying.

Carmen Vega
•That's frustrating but I guess I understand why they need to verify everything.

•Yeah I get it too, just wish the process wasn't so adversarial feeling sometimes

also make sure you have copies of everything you bring. they might want to keep some documents

•Good point! I'll make copies of everything just in case.

If your employer is disputing your claim, bring anything that shows company policy about layoffs or downsizing. If they gave you a WARN notice or anything like that, definitely bring it.

Carmen Vega
•I don't think I got a WARN notice but I'll check if I have any company communications about the layoffs.

•Even informal emails about budget cuts or restructuring can help your case

Honestly the hardest part is usually just getting in touch with Washington ESD to ask these questions in the first place. I tried calling for weeks before my appointment and could never get through.

Zoe Stavros
•That's exactly why I started using Claimyr. No more wasted time on hold, they just call you back when they reach someone.

•Might have to try that for my next question. The phone system is absolutely terrible.

Dylan Cooper
•like 2 hours but that included waiting. the actual meeting was maybe 30 minutes

I had to bring my job search log even though it wasn't specifically mentioned in the appointment letter. They asked for it during the meeting and I was glad I had it with me.

•I haven't been keeping a detailed log, just the basic stuff for my weekly claims. Should I create a more detailed one?

Sofia Ramirez
•If you have time, yes. Show dates, companies contacted, method of contact, and follow-up actions. Makes you look more serious about finding work.

Don't forget to bring proof of any training or education you're doing. They like to see that you're working on improving your skills while unemployed.

Carmen Vega
•I'm not doing any formal training right now. Is that bad?
0 coins
Dmitry Volkov
•Not necessarily bad, but it can help show you're being proactive. Even online courses or certifications count.

Whatever you do, don't be late! They're pretty strict about appointment times and might make you reschedule if you're more than 15 minutes late.

Carmen Vega
•Good to know! I was planning to arrive early anyway but I'll make sure to leave extra time.

•Smart move. Parking can be a nightmare at some of the offices too.

I brought way too much stuff to my appointment and the adjudicator seemed annoyed. Stick to what's relevant to your specific situation.

•That's a good balance to strike. I don't want to overwhelm them but I also don't want to be missing something important.

•The key is organizing everything clearly. Have the most important documents on top and easily accessible.

Make sure your address is current in their system before the appointment. I had issues because I had moved and hadn't updated my address with Washington ESD.

Carmen Vega
•How do you update your address? Through the online portal?
0 coins
Miguel Ortiz
•Yes, log into your account and update it there. Just make sure to do it a few days before your appointment.

the washington esd system is so broken. took me 3 appointments to get my claim approved because they kept asking for different documents each time
0 coins
Carmen Vega
•That sounds incredibly frustrating! Were you able to get backpay for the delays?

Zainab Omar
•eventually yes but it took months. the whole system needs an overhaul

I second the recommendation for Claimyr if you need to talk to Washington ESD again after your appointment. Sometimes they'll have follow-up questions or need additional documentation and it's impossible to reach them otherwise.

Carmen Vega
•Seems like several people have had good experiences with that service. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Connor Murphy
•Yeah it's been a lifesaver for me. Worth it just for the peace of mind of knowing you can actually talk to someone when you need to.

One more tip - dress professionally even though it's just an administrative meeting. First impressions matter and you want to show you're taking this seriously.
0 coins
Carmen Vega
•That's a great point. I was just planning to wear casual clothes but I'll dress up a bit.

•You don't need a suit or anything, just business casual shows respect for the process.

bring a folder or binder to keep everything organized. makes you look prepared and helps you find documents quickly when they ask for them

Carmen Vega
•Perfect! I have a binder I can use. I'll organize everything by category.
