Weekly claims showing 'disqualified' with no decision after 5 weeks - normal for ESD?
I'm in my 5th week of waiting for ESD to make a decision on my claim and I've noticed something concerning. All of my weekly claim submittals are showing as 'disqualified' in the system. Is this normal while waiting for an initial decision? My claim doesn't show any open issues requiring attention, and my former employer confirmed they aren't contesting the claim. I worked at the same company for nearly 7 years before being laid off in a department restructure, so I thought this would be straightforward. I've never seen the 'disqualified' status before - during my only other unemployment period years ago, my weekly claims showed as 'pending' until approval. The ESD website isn't clear about what this means, and I can't get through on the phone. Getting really worried about bills piling up while I continue job searching. Does anyone know if 'disqualified' is just a placeholder status until they make a decision? Or does this mean I'm actually being denied benefits despite having no issues listed?

ya this is totally normal with ESD now. all my weeklys said disqualified for like 6 weeks then one day they all switched to paid and i got all my back pay at once. dont stress just keep filing your weekly claims!

•That's such a relief to hear! The term 'disqualified' is really misleading - I was starting to panic. Did you have to do anything special to get it resolved, or did the system just update automatically?

This is actually not completely normal. While it's common for weekly claims to show various statuses during adjudication, 'disqualified' specifically means ESD has made some determination that could affect eligibility. Since you don't see any issues listed, this could indicate either: 1. A system display issue (happens more often than ESD admits) 2. An incomplete adjudication where they've flagged something but haven't notified you yet 3. A separation issue that's still being reviewed I would recommend checking your correspondence folder in eServices to see if there are any notices you missed, and also checking your spam folder for emails from ESD. You should also verify your identity verification is complete - many claims get held up there.

•I've checked my correspondence folder and spam email daily - nothing from ESD except the initial claim receipt confirmation. My identity verification shows complete in the system. The weird thing is my former HR person said they submitted all the required info and didn't contest anything. Should I try to get through to ESD to ask specifically about the 'disqualified' status?

dont listen to that other person lol mine said disqualified for almost TWO MONTHS and then suddenly all paid. its just how their stupid system works. ESD is a mess right now with all the new claims from the tech layoffs.

•While it's true many claims resolve on their own, 'disqualified' is different from 'pending' or 'processing.' It specifically indicates a determination has been made that affects eligibility. It's not just a waiting status - there's likely something that needs addressing. Better to be proactive than wait 2 months to find out there was an issue that could have been fixed earlier.

I had EXACTLY the same issue back in January. All my weekly claims showed as disqualified for 6 weeks straight and my anxiety was through the roof! Turns out there was a simple issue with how my employer reported my final wages - they included my PTO payout which confused the system. I finally got hold of an ESD agent who fixed it in literally 5 minutes once I explained. Then two days later all my weeklies flipped to 'paid' and I got a lump sum deposit. Keep calling them - that's the only way to get it resolved quickly.

•Thanks for sharing! I'm wondering if something similar happened with my final paycheck which included vacation payout. How did you finally get through to someone? I've been calling the main number multiple times a day with no luck - just get the 'high call volume' message and disconnected.

After dealing with ESD for years through multiple claims, I can tell you that 'disqualified' weekly claims during the initial decision period usually indicates one of two things: 1. Your claim is under review and that's just the default status until a decision is made (most common) 2. There's an issue that hasn't been properly flagged in the system Since there are no open issues showing, it's likely the first case. However, to be safe, you should: - Continue filing weekly claims - Double-check that your identity verification is complete - Verify your former employer has responded to ESD - Make sure you're completing all required job search activities (3 per week) If you want to resolve this faster, reaching an actual ESD agent is your best bet. The phone system is frustrating, but there are ways to get through.

•I've been doing all those things - filing weekly, completing job search activities, and my ID verification is complete. My former employer confirmed they submitted everything on their end too. I'll keep trying to reach someone by phone, but after 5 weeks I'm getting desperate. Is there any other way to contact them that might work better?

Have you tried going to a WorkSource office in person? Sometimes they can help with ESD issues or at least give you better information than the website. Also check if your state rep has a constituent services person who helps with unemployment issues - I had to do that last year when my claim was stuck.

•I hadn't thought about WorkSource - there's an office about 20 minutes from me. I'll try that tomorrow. Great idea about contacting my state rep too! I'm willing to try anything at this point.

I went through the EXACT same situation last month! After weeks of frustration trying to reach ESD with no luck, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual ESD agent. They have a system that basically holds your place in line and calls you when they connect with ESD. Saved me days of constant redialing. Once I talked to an agent, they explained my 'disqualified' status was just temporary while they processed my claim. Everything was fixed in one call. You can see how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Might be worth a try if you're still struggling to get through.

•I've never heard of this service before. Did it actually work for you? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point - the constant redialing is driving me crazy and I'm worried about missing my mortgage payment next month if this isn't resolved soon.

Yes, it actually worked! I was skeptical too, but after 3 weeks of failing to get through on my own, I was willing to try anything. I got connected to an ESD agent within a few hours. The agent told me that my 'disqualified' weekly claims were just showing that way while my claim was in adjudication, and she was able to expedite my claim since it had been pending for so long. All my weekly claims switched from 'disqualified' to 'paid' about 2 days later. Huge relief after weeks of stress!

Update: I've seen several cases in the past month where weekly claims show as 'disqualified' during adjudication, then automatically change to 'paid' once the main claim is approved. This seems to be a new system display issue with ESD's updated claim processing system. However, I still recommend trying to reach an agent after 5 weeks, as that exceeds their normal processing timeframe. If everything else in your claim looks good (identity verified, no issues showing, employer not contesting), then most likely your claim just needs a manual review to finalize approval.

•Thank you for this update! I managed to get through to ESD this morning using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. The agent confirmed exactly what you said - it's just how their system displays claims during adjudication. She expedited my claim review since it's been over 5 weeks, and said I should see a decision within 48 hours. Such a relief!
