Washington ESD unemployment form confusion - how to fill out sections correctly?
I'm trying to complete my initial unemployment application on the Washington ESD website but I'm getting stuck on several parts. The employment history section is asking for specific dates and I worked temporary jobs through different agencies last year. Do I list each temp assignment separately or just the staffing agency? Also confused about the separation reason - I was laid off but it says to select from a dropdown and none of the options seem to fit exactly. The weekly benefit amount calculator isn't working either. Has anyone else had trouble with these forms? I don't want to mess this up and delay my claim.

For temp work through agencies, list the staffing agency as your employer with the total time period you were registered with them. In the job duties section, you can mention you worked various temporary assignments. For separation reason, 'lack of work' is usually the right choice for layoffs even if the wording seems different than what happened to you.

•Thanks! That makes sense about the staffing agency. Should I still list the actual companies where I worked the temp jobs anywhere?

•You can mention the main ones in the job description field but Washington ESD primarily cares about who paid you - which was the staffing agency.

ugh the washington esd forms are so confusing! i had the same problem with the benefit calculator not working. just put $0 for now and they'll calculate it for you during processing

•Did leaving it at $0 cause any delays with your claim?

•nope, they figured it out automatically. took about 2 weeks to get my monetary determination letter

I struggled with reaching Washington ESD when I had form questions too. After getting nowhere with their phone system for days, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person at Washington ESD. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. The agent was able to walk me through the tricky parts of my application over the phone.

•How much does something like that cost? I've been trying to call for a week with no luck.

•It was worth it for me since I was losing sleep over whether I filled everything out right. Much cheaper than potentially delaying my benefits for weeks.

•Interesting, never heard of services like that before but makes sense given how hard it is to reach them directly.

The employment history section tripped me up too because I had overlapping part-time jobs. Here's what I learned - list your most recent employer first, then work backwards chronologically. If you had multiple jobs at the same time, list them separately with their respective date ranges. For the reason codes, Washington ESD uses pretty specific categories so sometimes you have to pick the closest match rather than expecting a perfect description.

•That's helpful about the chronological order. Did you include part-time jobs that were only a few hours a week?

Mei Chen
•Yes, include everything from the last 18 months even if it was minimal hours. Washington ESD needs the complete picture to calculate your benefits correctly.

Be super careful with the separation dates! I put the wrong date by one day and it messed up my whole claim. Had to go through an appeals process to fix it.

•Oh no! How did one day make such a difference?

•It put me in the wrong benefit year somehow. Washington ESD is very picky about dates matching exactly what your employer reports.

•This is why it's worth double-checking everything before submitting. Look at your final paystub for the exact last day worked.

also make sure you have your social security card and ID ready to upload photos of them. the system is picky about image quality

Yuki Nakamura
•Good tip! Any specific requirements for the photo quality?

•clear lighting, all edges visible, no glare or shadows. took me 3 tries to get my ID accepted

One more thing about the wage information - if you're not sure about exact amounts, you can estimate based on your paystubs but be as accurate as possible. Washington ESD will verify everything with your employers anyway, but big discrepancies can trigger additional review.

•Should I round to the nearest dollar or include cents?

StarSurfer
•Include cents if you have them from paystubs, otherwise rounding to the nearest dollar is fine.

The hardest part for me was the 'available for work' questions. Some of them seem like trick questions - like asking if you'd accept part-time work when you're looking for full-time.
0 coins
Yuki Nakamura
•Yes! I wasn't sure how to answer those either. What did you put?
0 coins
Zoe Christodoulou
•I answered yes to part-time availability because you have to be available for suitable work, and they define what's suitable based on your work history.

Mei Chen
•That's correct. Being too restrictive about the work you'll accept can disqualify you from benefits.

Just submitted mine last week after struggling with it for hours. The interface isn't very intuitive compared to other government websites I've used.

•How long did the whole application take you once you figured it out?
0 coins
Jamal Thompson
•About 45 minutes once I had all my documents organized. The prep work took longer than the actual form.

If you get really stuck, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier has helped several people I know get their applications sorted out properly. They can stay on the line with you while you fill it out if needed.

•Wish I had known about that when I was dealing with my date issue. Would have saved me months of hassle.

•Yeah, getting expert help upfront is usually easier than fixing mistakes later in the process.

Don't forget to print or save a copy of your completed application before submitting! The system doesn't always let you go back and view what you entered.

Yuki Nakamura
•Great advice! Can you print it from the review page?
0 coins
Liam O'Connor
•Yes, there should be a print option on the final review screen before you hit submit.

also heads up that after you submit you might not hear anything for a few days. don't panic, that's normal

Yuki Nakamura
•How will I know if they received it properly?

Carmen Reyes
•you should get an email confirmation right away, then a letter in the mail within a week with your claim details

Final tip - make sure your contact information is current and check your email regularly after submitting. Washington ESD sends important updates electronically and missing them can delay your claim.

•Should I check spam folders too?

StarSurfer
•Definitely! Government emails sometimes get filtered incorrectly.

I made the mistake of not having all my employer information ready before starting. Had to stop halfway through to find old paystubs and the session timed out.

Yuki Nakamura
•How long do you have before it times out?

Amara Adeyemi
•I think it was about 30 minutes of inactivity. Really annoying when you're trying to gather documents.

•This is why it's worth doing all your prep work first - employer names, addresses, dates, supervisor names if you remember them.

The system saved my progress when I had to stop, but I lost some of the information I had entered. Definitely recommend completing it in one sitting if possible.

Yuki Nakamura
•Did you have to start completely over?

Giovanni Gallo
•No, but I had to re-enter about half of my employment history. Very frustrating.

One thing that confused me was whether to include jobs from other states. Turns out you should include all work from the past 18 months regardless of location.

Yuki Nakamura
•Even if I didn't pay Washington state taxes on that income?

•Yes, they'll sort out the interstate stuff on their end. Just be honest about all your work history.

Looking back, I wish I had called that Claimyr number mentioned earlier when I was struggling. Would have saved me a lot of stress and second-guessing.

Just remember that minor mistakes won't necessarily disqualify you, but they can slow down processing. The adjudication team will contact you if they need clarification on anything.

Yuki Nakamura
•That's reassuring. I've been worried about getting every detail perfect.

•Do your best but don't let perfectionism paralyze you. The important thing is getting your claim started.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I feel much more confident about tackling this form now. Going to gather all my documents first and then set aside a couple hours to complete it properly.
