Washington ESD error x57 unemployment claim - anyone know what this means?
I've been trying to file my weekly claim for the past two days and keep getting this weird "error x57" message when I submit. The system just kicks me back to the main page without any explanation. I can log into my Washington ESD account fine, but can't complete my weekly certification. Has anyone else run into this error x57 unemployment issue? I'm worried I'm going to miss my filing deadline.

I got that same error x57 last week! Super frustrating because there's literally no explanation anywhere on the Washington ESD site about what it means.

•Right? It's like they just throw random error codes at us and expect us to figure it out ourselves.

•Error x57 usually indicates a system validation issue with your weekly claim data. Try clearing your browser cache first, then log back in and make sure all your information is exactly as it appears in your profile.

From what I've seen helping people with Washington ESD issues, error x57 typically occurs when there's a mismatch between your job search entries and what the system expects. Did you enter exactly 3 job search activities for the week? Make sure each entry has complete employer information including phone numbers.

Ethan Clark
•I did enter 3 job searches but maybe one of the phone numbers was incomplete. I'll double-check that.

•Wait, do we really need phone numbers for every single job search entry? I've been leaving some blank when I apply online.

Carmen Ruiz
•Yes, Washington ESD requires complete contact information for each job search activity. If you applied online, use the company's main phone number from their website.

I had error x57 for three weeks straight and couldn't get through to anyone at Washington ESD to explain what was wrong. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual agent who walked me through fixing it. Turns out my work search log had formatting issues the system couldn't process.

•How much does that Claimyr thing cost? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•They don't charge upfront - you just pay when they successfully connect you. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

•That actually sounds helpful. I've been trying to call Washington ESD for days with no luck.

ERROR X57 IS THE WORST!!! I've been getting it for a week now and I'm about to lose my mind. The Washington ESD phone system is completely useless.

•I feel your pain. Have you tried filing really early in the morning? Sometimes the system works better at like 6 AM.

•Yeah I tried that too. Still getting the same stupid error message.

For anyone still getting error x57, here's a systematic troubleshooting approach: 1) Clear browser cache and cookies completely 2) Use Chrome or Firefox (avoid Internet Explorer) 3) Disable any ad blockers 4) Make sure your job search entries have complete information 5) Check that your availability questions are answered consistently with previous weeks.

•This is super helpful! I didn't realize ad blockers could interfere with the Washington ESD system.

•The availability questions are tricky. I answered differently one week and it flagged my account for review.

Yuki Sato
•Exactly. The system looks for consistency patterns. If you suddenly change your availability answers without a corresponding change in your profile, it can trigger validation errors like x57.

I work in IT and error x57 looks like a database validation error to me. Probably means one of your field entries doesn't match the expected format or character limits.
0 coins
Ethan Clark
•That makes sense. Do you know what the character limits are for the job search descriptions?
0 coins
Giovanni Greco
•I think it's around 100 characters for job descriptions and company names. Keep it short and simple.

Had this exact problem last month. Turned out I was putting too much detail in my job search descriptions and hitting some hidden character limit. Once I shortened them to just basic info, error x57 went away.

Dylan Wright
•Good to know! I always write paragraphs in those description boxes.

Fatima Al-Farsi
•Yeah, keep it simple like 'Applied for warehouse position' or 'Submitted resume for office clerk role' - that's all they need.

another thing that can cause error x57 is if you have special characters in your entries like & or % signs. The system doesn't like those.

•Oh wow, I did use an ampersand in one of my company names. That might be it!

•Yeah stick to letters and numbers only to be safe

I've been filing unemployment claims for 6 months and never seen error x57 until this week. Wonder if Washington ESD changed something in their system recently?

•They're always updating their system without telling anyone. Super annoying.

•Washington ESD did implement some validation updates in December 2024. They're being stricter about data formatting to reduce fraud, but it's causing issues for legitimate claimants too.

Try using a different device entirely. I was getting error x57 on my laptop but it worked fine when I used my phone to file the weekly claim.

•Interesting! I'll try that. Maybe it's something with my computer setup.

I got so frustrated with error x57 that I ended up using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Took them like 15 minutes to get me through to a Washington ESD rep who fixed my account immediately. The agent said my profile had some old data that was conflicting with the new validation rules.

•How long did the whole process take from start to finish?

Connor Gallagher
•Maybe an hour total including the call back time. Way faster than trying to get through on my own.

For what it's worth, I had error x57 and it turned out my direct deposit information had an extra space in the account number field. Fixed that and the error disappeared.

•I'll check my banking info too. At this point I'm willing to try anything!

Does anyone know if there's an official Washington ESD documentation that lists what all these error codes mean? This is ridiculous that we have to guess.

•I've looked everywhere and never found a comprehensive error code list. It's like they want to keep us in the dark.

•Most state unemployment systems don't publish their error codes publicly for security reasons, unfortunately.

UPDATE: I fixed my error x57 issue! It was the job search entries like everyone said. I had copied and pasted from a Word document and it brought over some weird formatting characters. Retyped everything manually and it went through fine.

Ethan Clark
•That's exactly what I needed to hear! I did copy from Word too. Going to retype everything now.

•Copy/paste from Word always causes problems with online forms. Good catch!

Another potential fix - make sure you're not using any emojis or special punctuation in your job search descriptions. Keep it plain text only.

•Who would put emojis in their unemployment filing??

Natasha Orlova
•You'd be surprised! Sometimes people copy company names directly from social media posts that have emojis in them.

I was getting error x57 and it turned out I had two browser windows open with Washington ESD at the same time. Closed one and the error went away. Maybe the system doesn't like multiple sessions.

Ethan Clark
•Good point! I always have multiple tabs open. I'll make sure to only have one Washington ESD tab active.

This might sound weird but try logging out completely, restarting your computer, then logging back in. Sometimes the session data gets corrupted and causes random errors like x57.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who helped troubleshoot this. Between checking my job search formatting and using Claimyr to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD, I finally got my claim filed. This thread saved me so much frustration!

For future reference, if you keep getting error x57 or any other Washington ESD system errors, document exactly what you were doing when it happened. Screenshot everything. It helps when you finally get through to customer service.

•Great advice. I always forget to take screenshots until after the fact.

•Same! But it really helps the agents understand what's going wrong with your specific account.

One last tip - if you're still having trouble, try filing your weekly claim at different times of day. The Washington ESD system seems to handle validation differently during peak vs off-peak hours.
