Stuck in ESD limbo - 5 weeks of filing without approval or denial?
I've been stuck in this weird ESD purgatory for 5 weeks now. My claim shows as active, and I've diligently submitted my weekly claims every week, but I haven't received a single payment or any notification about whether I'm approved or denied. The online portal just shows 'active' but nothing else. I'm planning to contact the governor's office after the 6-week mark to try and light a fire under someone (heard this works from a friend). But I'm confused about what happens next - if an adjudicator finally gets back to me, will they actually tell me right then if I'm approved or denied? Or will I still be left guessing? I'm getting desperate here. Rent is due next week, and my savings are basically gone. Has anyone been through this limbo situation? How long did you wait before something actually happened?

Your claim is likely in adjudication, even if it's not explicitly stated on your account. This is unfortunately common right now. When an adjudicator reviews your case, yes, they should inform you of their decision at that time - either by phone or through the online portal. Sometimes you'll receive a written determination in the mail a few days later. I'd recommend calling the claims center directly before going to the governor's office. The current wait is about 6-7 weeks for adjudication in many cases, so you're almost at the typical resolution window. Make sure you're checking both your online account AND your physical mail - sometimes determination letters only come by mail.

•Thanks for the info. I've been checking both my online account and mailbox obsessively. Nothing yet. I'll try calling the claims center first, but I've already tried 3 times and couldn't get through... just endless busy signals or getting disconnected after waiting on hold.

•Oh wow, that's frustrating but helpful to know. I'll try the 8am trick tomorrow. Did they backpay you for all those weeks once your identity was verified?

Contacting the governor won't help... everyone tries that now and it just clogs up the system more. Be patient.

•This is NOT true!! I contacted the governor's office after waiting 9 weeks for my claim to be processed and it got resolved within 3 days!!! They have special liaisons with ESD and can absolutely move things along faster. Don't listen to people telling you to just "be patient" when your bills are piling up!

I had good luck using Claimyr to get through to ESD when I was in a similar situation. I was on week 8 of waiting with no updates and couldnt get through on the phone no matter how many times I tried. Claimyr got me connected to an actual agent who figured out my claim was stuck because of a previous employer disputing something. Totally worth checking out: claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

•Thanks for the tip! I hadn't heard of this service. Did they actually resolve your issue in that first call or did you have to wait longer after speaking with someone?

•The agent was able to see exactly what was holding things up and escalated it to an adjudicator right there on the call. Got my determination letter 3 days later. Better than waiting another month in the dark!

To directly answer your question: Yes, when an adjudicator reviews your claim, they will contact you with their decision. This usually happens during a phone interview (if one is scheduled) or shortly after they complete their review. You'll receive an official written determination regardless, but speaking with an adjudicator often provides immediate clarity. Regarding timelines, the standard processing period is now 5-7 weeks for most claims with issues requiring adjudication. You're currently within that window. Make sure you continue to file your weekly claims, even if you haven't been approved yet - that's critical for receiving all eligible payments once approved. If you have documentation that your financial situation is dire (eviction notice, utility shut-off, etc.), you can request an expedited review by uploading this evidence to your account or mentioning it when you speak with an agent. Financial hardship can sometimes accelerate the process.

•This is really helpful, thank you. I'll definitely keep filing weekly claims. I don't have an eviction notice yet but I do have a late notice from my landlord that I could upload. Where exactly would I upload that in the ESD portal? I couldn't find an option specifically for expediting.

•You can upload it under "Upload a Document" in your eServices account. Select document type "Other" and then type "Financial Hardship - Expedite Request" in the description field. I also recommend adding a brief cover letter explaining your situation. That said, speaking with a live agent is more effective for expedite requests, as they can flag your account directly.

I went through this EXACT thing in January. Five weeks of NOTHING but still having to do the weekly claims dance. When I finally got through to someone (took 23 calls!!!) they told me my claim was under review because my former employer had contested it!!! My employer never even told me they were fighting it!!! The whole system is designed to frustrate you into giving up, I SWEAR. But to answer your question - yes, the adjudicator will tell you the decision when they contact you. In my case, they called me (from a blocked number, FYI, so answer ALL calls), asked me a few questions about my separation from the job, then told me right then that they were approving my claim despite my employer's protest. The money showed up in my account 2 days later, including backpay for all those weeks. DON'T GIVE UP. Keep calling. Early morning is best.

•That's so frustrating! But also reassuring to hear you eventually got through and received backpay. Did you have to submit any additional documentation after speaking with the adjudicator, or was that phone call the final step before approval?

•The phone call was it for me! The adjudicator had all my info already. But my coworker had to fax (seriously, FAX in 2025!!) some additional pay stubs when he went through adjudication. I think it depends on what's causing the hold-up with your specific claim.

•Good point about the spam folder - I just checked and don't see anything from ESD, but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks!

Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat, week 4 of waiting after being laid off from Amazon. This thread is giving me anxiety but also some hope. Let us know what happens with your claim!

•Sorry to hear you're going through this too! I'll definitely update once something happens. Fingers crossed we both get some resolution soon.
