Still waiting for my 2025 1099-G from ESD for Paid Family Medical Leave - anyone got theirs?

I took paid medical leave through Washington state for about 6 weeks last May after surgery. Received around $4,800 total. It's already the end of January and I still haven't received my 1099-G form for tax filing. The ESD website says they should've been sent out by Jan 15th? Has anyone else who took PFML (not regular unemployment) received their 1099-G yet? I'm trying to file my taxes early this year and this is the only form I'm waiting on. Called the PFML number twice but got disconnected both times after waiting 40+ minutes. Starting to worry...

You're confusing two different programs. Paid Family Medical Leave isn't administered by ESD for tax purposes - it comes from the WA Paid Leave department. They don't issue 1099-Gs like unemployment does. You should be looking for a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC form instead. Check your online account at paidleave.wa.gov.

Oh really? I thought both unemployment and PFML were from ESD. That would explain why I can't find anything about it on the ESD site. I'll log into the paidleave portal tonight and check. Thanks!

PFML is separate from unemployment. If you had both, you'll get a 1099-G for the unemployment portion from ESD, but the PFML tax document comes from the Paid Leave department. Log into paidleave.wa.gov to check your account.

Actually, I believe you're both slightly confused. PFML is run by ESD, but it's a different division than unemployment. However, they DO issue 1099-G forms for PFML benefits, not 1099-NEC/MISC. I just received mine yesterday for my parental leave from last year. They're definitely behind schedule this year. They should be available in your Paid Leave account under the "Documents" section. If not, I'd recommend trying to reach them again. I know the phone lines are absolutely swamped this time of year with tax document questions.

Thank you for clearing that up. I'll check my Paid Leave account tonight! Did you get yours by mail or was it only available online?

They make them available online first, then mail them out over the next couple weeks. If you have an online account, you should be able to download it directly from there instead of waiting for the mail.

I hate all these different govment websites!!!! I have like 5 different logins for everything and can never remember which one is which. Why cant they just make ONE website for everything??? 🤬

If you're having trouble getting through on the phone to the Paid Leave department, I'd highly recommend trying Claimyr. I was in the same boat last year when I needed to speak with someone about my PFML claim and was getting nowhere with the regular phone line. Claimyr connected me with an agent in about 10 minutes instead of hours of redial hell. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Basically they navigate the phone tree and wait on hold for you, then call you when they get an agent. Saved me so much frustration during my medical leave process.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of this service before. Did it really work that well? I'll definitely check out the video - I'm desperate at this point and tax deadline is getting closer.

Yes, it really did work that well for me. I was skeptical at first but after spending three days trying to get through myself, I was willing to try anything. Got connected to an agent the first try. They're specifically designed for ESD and PFML calls which are notoriously difficult to get through on.

That's a tough situation, but it's a different issue than the tax document question. You should start a new thread about your overpayment situation - you may need to file an appeal if you haven't already. There's a specific timeframe for appealing overpayment notices.

Did you opt for paper statements or electronic? I chose electronic for everything and mine showed up in my account on January 22nd. Maybe check your spam folder too if you were expecting an email notification?

I honestly don't remember what I selected when I applied. I'll check spam too, thanks for the reminder!

UPDATE: Finally found it! I checked my Paid Leave account and it was there under Documents, dated Jan 23rd. I never got any email notification so I had no idea it was there. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad you found it! For future reference, tax documents are usually available by January 31st each year, but they often come earlier. It's always good to check your account directly rather than waiting for notifications.
