Out-of-state wages verification delay - all weekly claims stuck in pending since February

I started my unemployment claim on February 2nd with wages from another state that needed verification. ESD finally sent me an approval letter on February 20th saying I qualify for benefits, but here's the weird part - ALL my weekly claims are still showing 'pending' status. When I check them, there's this annoying popup saying 'we haven't decided if you will receive benefits yet.' But I literally have their letter saying I'm approved! I've been trying to reach someone Thursday and Friday but only get the automated message saying they aren't accepting calls right now. I'm getting desperate since rent is due this week and I was counting on these benefits. Does anyone know a better number to call ESD that actually works? Or any tricks to get through to a real person? This out-of-state wage verification is driving me insane!

omg this SAME THING happened to me in January. Out of state wages are the worst!! ESD is seriously so broken - I got approved but then waited like 3 more weeks with everything pending. Try calling exactly at 8:00am when they open, that's how I finally got through. good luck!!!

Thanks for the tip! Did you have to do anything special once you got through? Like request they release the pending claims or something? I'm worried they might need additional documentation that they haven't told me about.

This is a common issue with combined wage claims (CWC) where your benefits include wages from another state. The approval letter means you're monetarily eligible, but there could be a separate adjudication issue causing the pending status. When you log into your eServices account, check under the 'Notices/Letters' section for any correspondence about issues needing resolution. Also, look under 'Pending Issues' to see if there's anything specific holding up your claim. For out-of-state wage claims, there's often an additional verification step that happens after the approval letter is sent.

I checked my account again and there's nothing under Pending Issues. No notifications either except the approval letter. It's like I'm stuck in limbo and can't find out why!

I've been helping people with ESD claims for years, and out-of-state wage verification is consistently one of the slowest processes. Even though you got the monetary determination letter, the system often holds payments until BOTH states fully reconcile their wage information. Here's what you should do: 1. First, call your previous state's unemployment office. Confirm they've completed their part of the wage verification process. 2. Then submit a message through your eServices portal specifically asking for status on the combined wage claim processing. 3. Request escalation to a claims specialist for your particular situation. The standard phone line is always jammed, especially this time of year.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I didn't realize I needed to check with my previous state too. Will do that tomorrow morning first thing. Any idea how much longer this might take once both states complete their verification?

I just went through this exact situation last month! Out of state wages from Nevada that took FOREVER to verify. ESD's phone system is completely useless. After 2 weeks of trying, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and processed all my pending payments right while I was on the phone. Might be worth trying if you're desperate with rent coming up.

Yeah it's legit. They basically keep dialing ESD automatically until they get through the busy signals, then transfer the call to you. Saved me days of repeated calling. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after 3 weeks of pending payments.

THE ESD PHONE SYSTEM IS DELIBERATELY DESIGNED TO KEEP YOU FROM REACHING HELP!!1! They know exactly what theyre doing. I spent TWO MONTHS trying to get my interstate benefits. they kept saying "pending" even tho i was approved too. its all a stalling tactic to avoid paying people. When you do finally reach someone they'll pretend they cant help and transfer you to someone else who will hang up on you.

While frustration with the system is understandable, the issues are usually due to understaffing and outdated technology rather than intentional obstruction. Interstate claims genuinely do take longer because two different state systems have to communicate and reconcile data, often with incompatible software. Persistence is key, but there are legitimate processes that need to complete.

Try the technical support line instead of the regular claims line - 855-682-0785. Sometimes they'll transfer you to claims if you tell them you're having trouble accessing your account. Also if you're eligible for standby status that might help speed things up. Do you have a return to work date with your employer? If so you can apply for standby which sometimes gets processed faster.

I don't have a return date since I was laid off permanently, but I'll definitely try that technical support number! Great idea, thanks for suggesting it!

my freind had the same thing but her out of state wages were from oregon. she had to wait like 5 weeks even after getting the approval letter. sumthing about the other state has to verify the esd request and then send it back and then esd has to process it again. its stupid but she eventually got all her back pay at once. hang in there!

That gives me some hope! Did she have to keep filing weekly claims during that whole waiting period?

ya she kept filing every week even tho they all said pending. When it finally processed they all went thru at once. just keep doing ur weekly claims!

Update on my earlier comment: I forgot to mention that for out-of-state wage claims specifically, ESD often uses a separate processing team. If you can get through on the phone, make sure to specifically request to speak with someone from the "Combined Wage Claims" or "Interstate Benefits" team. Normal claims agents sometimes don't have the authorization to resolve these specific types of holds. Also, make sure you've completed your MyCareers registration and uploaded your work search activities - sometimes systems flag claims when these aren't fully set up, even if you're technically approved.

Thank you! I've registered with MyCareers and have been uploading my job search activities every week. I'll make sure to ask specifically for the Interstate Benefits team if I can get through. Really appreciate this detailed help!
