Approved for unemployment but all weekly claims show 'disqualified' - 18 weeks with no income!
I'm at my wits' end with this bizarre situation. I got my approval letter about 3 weeks ago stating I'm eligible for unemployment starting January 12, 2025. Great news, right? Except EVERY single weekly claim I've filed since then shows as 'disqualified' in the system. When I check for pending issues, it says 'No pending issues.' The most frustrating part is I can't even appeal because technically my status is 'approved' according to their system! I've been calling ESD religiously - multiple times daily - and either get disconnected or can't get through the queue. This isn't just a minor inconvenience... I'm now in week 18 with ZERO income and bills are piling up fast. I'm thinking about contacting the governor's office out of desperation. Has anyone had success with this approach? Is there a best time to call them that might increase my chances of getting through? Or is there some other magic solution I'm missing to get ESD to actually fix this glitch? How can I be simultaneously 'approved' yet 'disqualified' for every payment?

What you're experiencing is unfortunately a known system issue with ESD. Your claim has been approved overall, but there's likely an issue with your weekly certifications that's causing the 'disqualified' status. Common reasons include: 1. Job search requirements - Are you reporting exactly 3 job search activities each week? 2. Availability issues - Did you answer 'no' to being able and available for work? 3. Earnings reporting - Any unreported income or incorrect reporting could trigger this. Before contacting the governor (which might take even longer), try these steps: - Send a secure message through your eServices account specifically mentioning the approval letter date and the contradiction between your approved status and disqualified weekly claims - Check if your approval letter has a specific contact person or number - Request an official determination letter for one of your disqualified weeks so you CAN appeal it The system sometimes needs an official determination to generate before allowing appeals.

•Thanks for these suggestions. I've been super careful with my job search activities - always reporting exactly 3 per week with all the required details. I always answer 'yes' to being able and available, and I haven't had any earnings to report. It really seems like a system glitch. I've sent at least 8 secure messages already with no response. The approval letter doesn't have a specific contact person, just the general ESD info. The determination letter idea is interesting though - how exactly do I request that? Is there a specific form or place in eServices to do this?

I had almost this EXACT same problem last year! The system had me as approved but every week showed disqualified - for 11 weeks straight. What finally worked was getting through to a Tier 2 specialist who could see that there was a flag on my account that wasn't showing up in the pending issues section. The problem is getting through to someone who can actually help. Regular agents couldn't see the hidden flag. I wasted HOURS calling the regular number with no luck.

•That sounds exactly like what's happening to me! How did you manage to get through to a Tier 2 specialist? Did you use a specific phone number or approach? I'll try anything at this point.

Have u tried calling at exactly 7:59am? Thats how i got thru last month. The system lets u in queue right b4 they officially open at 8am so u get ahead of everyone. Also try Tuesdays and Wednesdays, those seem to be less busy for sum reason. Mondays r the WORST.

•I've been trying early morning calls but not specifically 7:59. I'll definitely try this exact timing tomorrow morning! And good tip about avoiding Mondays - I think you're right, those seem to be when everyone's calling after the weekend. I'll focus on mid-week calls from now on.

After 4 weeks of not being able to get through to ESD for a similar issue (mine was stuck in adjudication forever despite being approved), I finally tried using Claimyr and got through to an agent in under 20 minutes. They can't fix everything on the spot, but at least I got someone to look at my claim and explain what was happening behind the scenes. Check out their video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 to see how it works. Their website is claimyr.com It was definitely worth it to finally speak to a human who could see what was actually going on with my claim rather than continuing to guess what might be wrong.

•Do they actually work? I saw an ad for them but was skeptical. Seems like it might be worth trying though since nothing else is working

•Yes, it actually works. I was skeptical too but was desperate after weeks of trying. The service connects you to the same ESD agents you'd talk to normally, they just help you bypass the phone queue somehow. The important thing is to have all your claim info ready when they connect you.

THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE IS USELESS FOR THIS!!! I tried that route last year and all they do is refer you back to ESD with a "special reference number" that the ESD agents completely ignore. Complete waste of time. Your better off emailing your state representative or senator. They have constituent services staff who can sometimes cut through the red tape. And btw, this is EXACTLY why I tell everyone to save at least 6 months expenses. The government systems are so broken they can't be relied on when you actually need them. 18 weeks with no income is CRIMINAL.

•Thanks for the reality check about the governor's office. I'll try contacting my state rep instead - that's a good suggestion. As for the 6 months of savings advice... I had about 3 months saved up but that's long gone now after 18 weeks without income. Medical bills earlier last year depleted what would have been a larger emergency fund. Sometimes life just hits you from multiple directions at once.

I went through something similar, and here's what resolved it for me: There was a hidden identity verification issue that wasn't showing in my pending issues. Even though I was "approved," my weekly claims were being disqualified because they hadn't completed verifying my identity. I eventually got through to someone who told me to check my spam/junk email folders for communications from ID.me or ESD about identity verification I might have missed. Sure enough, there was an email requesting additional documentation that I never saw. After completing that step, my payments were released within 72 hours AND they backdated all my disqualified weeks. Check your spam folders and also log in to ID.me directly to see if there's any pending verification there.

•This is so helpful! I just checked and found an ID.me email from 2 weeks ago buried in my spam folder! I can't believe I missed this. It's asking for additional documentation to verify my identity. I'm going to complete this right away. Thank you so much for this suggestion - I really hope this resolves the issue.

Based on your update about finding the ID.me email, that's almost certainly your issue! This happens more often than people realize. Once you complete the identity verification, here's what to expect: 1. It typically takes 3-5 business days for ID.me to process your documentation 2. Then another 2-3 days for ESD to receive and process the verification 3. After that, your weekly claims should automatically switch from disqualified to paid status If it's been more than 10 business days total after completing verification and you still don't see movement, that's when you need to call again. But with this specific issue, there's a good chance your claims will process automatically once verification is complete. Make sure you also check that your direct deposit or debit card information is up to date in the system so payments can go through smoothly once approved.

•Thank you for the detailed timeline! This helps me know what to expect. I just completed the ID.me verification process and uploaded all the requested documents. The site says they received everything successfully. My direct deposit info is current in the system, so hopefully once this verification goes through, everything will process smoothly. I'll update here in about 10 business days to let everyone know if this resolved the issue. Fingers crossed this was the missing piece!

•It's unfortunately not that unusual. ESD's systems have had serious problems since they updated them last year. The approval vs. disqualification contradiction happens in specific scenarios (usually related to identity verification, job search requirements, or when there's a separation issue that wasn't properly coded). The fact that multiple people experience similar problems isn't necessarily suspicious - it's just evidence of systematic issues with their processing system.

UPDATE: It worked!! After completing the ID.me verification I found in my spam folder, it took about 8 business days, but all my weekly claims suddenly switched from "disqualified" to "paid"! The money was in my account the next day. For anyone else experiencing this weird "approved but disqualified" problem: 1. Check your spam/junk folders thoroughly for emails from ID.me or ESD 2. Log into ID.me directly to see if there are pending verification steps 3. Make sure you're correctly reporting your job search activities (exactly 3 per week) 4. Double-check all your weekly claim answers Special thanks to everyone who helped, especially the suggestion to check for identity verification issues. After 18 weeks of stress and no income, I finally have this resolved. Now to catch up on all these bills...
