Is Washington ESD unemployment office open on Saturday for claim issues?
Does anyone know if Washington ESD unemployment offices are open on Saturdays? I need to resolve an issue with my weekly claim that got rejected and I can't get through on the phone during weekdays because of work. My claim shows 'pending' for two weeks now and I'm getting really stressed about missing payments. Are there any Saturday hours or weekend options for getting help with claim problems?

Washington ESD unemployment offices are closed on weekends unfortunately. They're only open Monday through Friday, typically 8am to 5pm. You might want to try calling right when they open at 8am or during lunch hours when call volume is sometimes lower.

•That's what I was afraid of. I work 7am to 4pm so it's impossible for me to call during those hours. This is so frustrating.

•Same problem here. I had to take time off work just to deal with my adjudication issue last month.

The online system at secure.esd.wa.gov is available 24/7 though. You can file your weekly claims and check your claim status anytime, including weekends. For your pending claim, log in and see if there are any action items or if it shows what's causing the delay.

•I've checked online multiple times and it just says 'pending' with no explanation. There's no action items showing either. I think I need to actually talk to someone.

•Yeah, when it's just showing pending without any clear reason, you usually do need to speak with a claims specialist to get it sorted out.

I had the same issue with getting through to Washington ESD during work hours. Someone here recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it actually worked. They have this service that helps you get through to ESD agents without having to sit on hold forever. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. It was a lifesaver for me when I couldn't take time off work to call.

•Really? How does that work exactly? I've never heard of that before.

•Basically they handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of trying to get through on my own.

•Is that legit? Sounds too good to be true honestly.

UGH the Washington ESD phone system is THE WORST. I've been trying to get through for weeks about my disqualification and I either get busy signals or it hangs up on me after being on hold for 2 hours. This system is broken!

•That's exactly what happens to me! Either busy or it just disconnects after forever on hold.

•The call volume is insane right now. I heard they get over 100,000 calls per day but only have like 400 agents.

Have you tried the live chat option? Sometimes that's easier than calling, though it's not available 24/7 either.

•I didn't know there was live chat! Where do I find that?

•When you log into your account, there should be a chat option during business hours. But honestly it's not always available and sometimes takes forever too.

•The chat is pretty limited. They can only help with basic questions, not complex claim issues like adjudication problems.

why dont they just hire more people?? this is ridiculous that we cant get help when we need it

•RIGHT?? We're the ones who paid into this system and now we can't even get help when we need our benefits!

•It's a funding and staffing issue. They've been understaffed for years and the pandemic made it worse.

I actually used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier. Was skeptical at first but it really did work. Got connected to an ESD agent within like 30 minutes instead of spending my whole day trying to call. Worth checking out if you're stuck like I was.

•Did it cost anything? I'm already tight on money waiting for my benefits.

•There is a fee but honestly it was worth it to actually get my issue resolved instead of missing more work trying to call.

•Same here. I was about to lose my mind with the calling situation.

Can you go to the office in person? Maybe that would work better than trying to call.

•Most Washington ESD offices don't do walk-ins anymore. You need an appointment and those are really hard to get.

CosmicCadet
•I looked into that but the nearest office is like 45 minutes away and they said appointments are booked out for weeks.

Maybe try calling different regional offices? Sometimes one office has shorter wait times than others.

Giovanni Gallo
•All unemployment claims go through the same main call center now. Calling different regional offices won't help with claim issues.

•Oh I didn't know that. Thanks for clarifying.

This is exactly why I hate dealing with government agencies. Everything is so complicated and impossible to get help with.

•Tell me about it. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to.

For what it's worth, once you do get through to someone they're usually pretty helpful. The hard part is just making contact. Your pending claim might be something simple that can be resolved quickly once you reach an agent.

•That's encouraging to hear. I just need to figure out how to actually get through to someone.

•Yeah the agents are generally good, it's just the system that's broken.

Have you tried the callback option? Sometimes they have a callback feature where you can request a call instead of waiting on hold.

•I've never seen a callback option. Where would I find that?

•Washington ESD doesn't have a callback feature. You're thinking of a different agency maybe.

•Oh you're right, I was thinking of the IRS. My bad.

I feel for you. I was in the same boat a few months ago with a pending claim. It's so stressful when you need those benefits to pay bills.

CosmicCadet
•Exactly! I'm behind on rent and my car payment already. This is really scary.

•Hang in there. Once it gets resolved the back pay should come through.

Can you have someone else call for you? Like a family member who has more flexible hours?

•Washington ESD won't discuss your claim with anyone else unless you have a formal authorization on file. Privacy rules are pretty strict.

•Yeah I looked into that but the paperwork process seemed complicated too.

This whole system needs to be modernized. Other states have much better online systems where you can resolve most issues without calling.

•Seriously! Why is Washington so behind on this stuff?

•They've been working on system upgrades but it's taking forever. Government tech projects always seem to take longer than expected.

Try calling right at 8am when they open. I've had better luck getting through first thing in the morning.

I'm going to try that Claimyr service mentioned earlier. This thread convinced me that it might be worth it instead of taking unpaid time off work to call.

Keep trying the online system too. Sometimes claims get unstuck on their own after a few days.

•It's been two weeks already though. I don't think it's going to resolve itself at this point.

•After two weeks of pending status, you definitely need to speak with someone. That's not normal processing time.

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my claim has been pending for over three weeks and I work during all their business hours. The phone system is absolutely impossible to get through on. I've been checking the online portal every day but like others mentioned, it just says "pending" with no explanation or action items. It's incredibly frustrating when you're already stressed about finances and can't even get basic information about your own claim. Has anyone had success with emailing them or is calling really the only way to get these issues resolved?
