Is the unemployment office open - Washington ESD hours and contact info?
Does anyone know if the Washington ESD unemployment office is actually open for walk-ins right now? I've been trying to call for weeks about my claim that's been stuck in adjudication but can never get through. I'm wondering if I can just show up in person to get some answers about my weekly claims. My job search requirements are getting confusing too and I need to talk to someone who can explain what I'm supposed to be doing.

Most Washington ESD offices have limited walk-in hours now. You should check their website for your local office hours, but calling is still the main way to reach them. The phone lines are crazy busy though - I've been trying to get through about my own adjudication issue.

•Yeah I've been checking the website but it's not very clear about walk-in availability. The phone situation is just impossible.

•I tried walking in last month and they turned me away, said everything has to be done by phone or online now

The Washington ESD customer service centers have very limited in-person services. Most locations require appointments that you have to schedule online. For adjudication issues and job search requirement questions, you'll need to call the UI customer service line at 800-318-6022, but expect long wait times.

•That's the number I've been calling! I either get hung up on or wait for hours and then get disconnected.

•Same here, it's like they don't want us to actually talk to anyone

I was having the exact same problem trying to reach Washington ESD about my claim status. Someone on here told me about this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to ESD agents. I was skeptical but tried it and actually got connected within 20 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ

•Really? That sounds almost too good to be true. How does it work exactly?

•I've heard of Claimyr too, my cousin used it when her unemployment got messed up and she needed to talk to Washington ESD fast

•Is there a cost for using that service? I'm already strapped for cash waiting for my benefits

Just to clarify on the job search requirements since you mentioned being confused - you need to make at least 3 job contacts per week and keep a log. You can do this through WorkSourceWA or track it yourself. Make sure you're documenting everything properly or it could affect your benefits.

•Thanks, I've been doing the job searches but wasn't sure about the documentation part. Do I need to upload proof somewhere?

Alexis Robinson
•You don't upload it unless they request it during an audit. Just keep good records with dates, company names, and contact methods.

•I feel you, the waiting is the worst part. Have you tried messaging them through your SecureAccess account?

•yeah i sent like 5 messages and never got a real response just automated stuff

•The messaging system is basically useless, they never respond with actual help

For what it's worth, I had success with Claimyr when I needed to reach Washington ESD urgently about an overpayment notice. The regular phone lines were impossible but Claimyr got me through to an actual person who could review my case. Definitely worth trying if you're stuck.

•That's two people now mentioning Claimyr, maybe I should look into it

•How quickly did they get you through? I'm dealing with a disqualification I need to appeal

•It was maybe 15-30 minutes compared to the hours I wasted trying to call directly

The Washington ESD offices that are still open typically have very limited hours - usually like 9am-3pm and closed for lunch. But honestly you're better off trying to get through by phone even though it sucks. At least with calling you don't waste time driving somewhere just to be told they can't help you.

Chloe Green
•Good point about not wasting the drive. I just thought maybe face to face would be easier

•I made that mistake last year, drove 45 minutes to the Tacoma office and they wouldn't see me without an appointment

Check if your area has a WorkSource office that can help with unemployment questions. Sometimes they can assist with basic issues or at least point you in the right direction. Not sure about adjudication stuff though.

•I didn't think of WorkSource, that might be worth a try for the job search questions at least

Samantha Hall
•Yeah they're definitely more accessible than Washington ESD directly

Honestly the best times to call Washington ESD are right when they open at 8am or during lunch hours when maybe fewer people are calling. Still might not work but those are your best bets. I've never gotten through calling in the afternoon.

•I tried calling at 8am sharp and still waited 2 hours before giving up

•Yeah it's hit or miss, the whole system is overwhelmed

My experience with adjudication was that it just takes time unfortunately. Mine took about 8 weeks but eventually went through. The waiting sucks but try to be patient and keep filing your weekly claims even while it's pending.

Chloe Green
•8 weeks?? I'm only at 3 weeks and already freaking out about money

Katherine Harris
•I know it's scary but they do backdate the payments once it's approved, so you'll get everything you're owed

Madison Allen
•That's assuming they approve it though... some adjudications end in disqualification

Just wanted to add that if you do manage to get through to Washington ESD, have all your information ready - claim number, SSN, employment dates, etc. They don't like to wait while you look stuff up and might hang up if you take too long.

•Good tip, I'll make sure to have everything written down beforehand

•Yeah and don't put them on hold either, they'll disconnect you immediately

I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked! Got connected to Washington ESD in about 25 minutes and was able to get my adjudication status updated. The agent explained what was holding up my claim and what I needed to do. Definitely worth trying if you're stuck like I was.

•Ok that's three people now saying Claimyr worked for them. I'm going to check out that website

•Did they charge you a lot for the service?

•The main thing is it saved me probably 20+ hours of trying to call on my own. Time is money when you're unemployed.

For job search requirements make sure you understand the difference between able/available to work and actively seeking work. You need to be both to qualify. And if you're on standby through your union that's different rules entirely.

Chloe Green
•I'm not on standby, just regular unemployment. But good to know about the able/available distinction

Benjamin Johnson
•What's the difference between able and available? I thought they were the same thing

Victoria Scott
•Able means physically/mentally capable of working. Available means you're free to accept work - no scheduling conflicts, childcare issues, etc.

The Washington ESD website has a chat feature but it's pretty useless - just gives you the same info that's already on the website. Better than nothing I guess but don't expect actual help.

Chloe Green
•Yeah I tried the chat and it was just automated responses. No real person to talk to

•The chat bot is so annoying, it never understands what you're actually asking

If your adjudication is taking forever you might want to contact your state representative's office. Sometimes they can help push things along with Washington ESD when you're not getting anywhere on your own.
0 coins
Chloe Green
•I didn't know that was an option! How do you contact them about unemployment issues?
0 coins
Aaliyah Reed
•Just call or email your rep's office and explain the situation. They have staff who deal with constituent services and can sometimes get Washington ESD to pay attention

Ella Russell
•My friend did this and it actually helped, her claim got processed within a week after her rep's office got involved

Bottom line is Washington ESD is understaffed and overwhelmed. The offices that are open have minimal capacity and the phone system can't handle the volume. It's not personal, the whole system is just broken right now.

Chloe Green
•I get that but it doesn't help when you need answers about your claim and can't reach anyone

Gavin King
•True but at least knowing it's a system problem and not something you did wrong might help with the stress

•doesnt matter why its broken, we still need our money to survive
