"Ineligible Pending" status after applying - ESD says no benefits available?
I'm totally confused about my unemployment claim status. I just applied this past Sunday and my ESD account is showing "ineligible pending" status. They only asked questions about my last employer who hasn't reported my wages yet. Between my jobs in California and Washington, I definitely have over 680 hours of work in my base year. But when I check my weeks summary, it says "we have now paid all of the unemployment benefits available under your current claim. No further benefits can be paid on this claim." How can they say no benefits are available when I just applied? Has anyone dealt with this weird "ineligible pending" status before? I'm really worried since I was counting on these benefits to cover rent next month.

This sounds like you might have had a previous claim that exhausted its benefits. The "ineligible pending" usually means they've made an initial determination but are waiting on something (likely your wage verification from your most recent employer). Don't panic yet - the message about no further benefits is probably referring to a previous claim that's still showing in your account. Since you have 680+ hours between CA and WA, you should qualify for a new benefit year once they verify your wages. They'll need to confirm your cross-state wages through the combined wage claim process, which can take 2-3 weeks longer than a regular claim.

•Thanks for explaining that! I did have a claim back in 2023 but I thought that was completely done with. Should I be doing anything while I wait? Will they automatically check my CA wages or do I need to tell them specifically to look at those?

•Oh wow, did you end up getting benefits after adjudication? How long did that process take?

The system is showing you're ineligible based on initial data, but it's pending final determination. Here's what you need to do: 1. Make sure you reported your out-of-state wages when you applied. If not, call ESD and inform them you worked in California 2. Continue filing your weekly claims while this gets sorted out 3. Check your ESD account messages daily for any requests for information 4. If you worked in California within your base year, Washington will need to request wage verification from California through the Combined Wage Claim process The message about "no further benefits" is definitely referring to a previous claim. New claims don't generate that message unless there's been a specific disqualification. Your claim is likely just waiting for the interstate wage verification to complete.

•this is kinda confusing...so if someone works in 2 states, do both states have to approve? can u collect from both states at once?

I've been trying to call ESD for 3 DAYS about a similar issue and keep getting hung up on!!! The automated system keeps saying "due to high call volume" and disconnects me. Did anyone actually get through to them recently??

•I was in the same boat last week trying to reach them about my adjudication. I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an ESD agent in about 30 minutes after trying for days on my own. It's at claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Basically they keep redialing for you until they get through, then call you when they have an agent on the line. Saved me a ton of frustration.

The ineligible pending status is because your wages aren't showing up in their system yet. If you worked in California, you HAVE to call them to initiate a Combined Wage Claim (CWC). I went through this in 2025 after moving from Oregon. They won't automatically check other states unless you specifically request it. And yes, keep filing weekly claims even with the weird status messages!

•Thank you for this info! I definitely mentioned my California work when I applied but maybe I need to call and make sure they're actually processing a CWC. I've been filing my weekly claims just in case.

The ESD system is a JOKE! I've been through this exact scenario and spent WEEKS trying to get it resolved. The cross-state verification takes FOREVER and they don't tell you that upfront. Meanwhile they act like you're ineligible when they just haven't finished their investigation. I almost lost my apartment waiting for their so-called "process" to complete.

Update from what I said earlier - I just remembered that for Combined Wage Claims, you need to specifically request that they include your out-of-state wages. It's not automatic. You should call ESD and tell them you want to file a CWC including your California wages. They'll need your California employer information and approximately when you worked there. This will trigger them to request your wage data from California EDD.

•This makes sense! I'll definitely call them tomorrow to make sure they're processing a Combined Wage Claim. I have all my California employer info ready. Really appreciate everyone's help!

•This is excellent advice. Always continue filing weekly claims even when your claim shows a pending or ineligible status. It's much easier to have those weeks already filed if your claim is eventually approved than to try to get retroactive payments approved later.

Thank you all for the helpful advice! I'm going to call ESD tomorrow specifically about filing a Combined Wage Claim to include my California wages. I'll keep filing my weekly claims in the meantime. It's frustrating that their system doesn't make any of this clear, but I feel much better knowing what's going on now.

I went through something similar when I moved from Oregon to Washington last year. The "ineligible pending" status is super confusing because it makes you think you're denied when really they just don't have all your wage information yet. Since you worked in both states, Washington ESD needs to verify your California wages through what's called a Combined Wage Claim (CWC). This process can take 3-4 weeks because they have to coordinate with California's system. The key things to do: 1) Call ESD and specifically tell them you want to file a CWC including your CA wages, 2) Keep filing your weekly claims even with the weird status messages, and 3) Be patient - the cross-state verification is slow but it will eventually get sorted out. Don't let that "no benefits available" message scare you - that's probably leftover from an old claim in their system.

•This is really helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now. When you called ESD to request the Combined Wage Claim, did they make you go through the whole phone tree again or is there a specific department that handles CWCs? I've been dreading having to call because of all the wait times people are mentioning.

I'm in almost the exact same boat! Applied last week and got the "ineligible pending" status even though I have plenty of qualifying wages between my jobs in Oregon and Washington. The whole system is so confusing - they make it sound like you're automatically denied when really they just haven't processed everything yet. I'm planning to call tomorrow to specifically request a Combined Wage Claim for my Oregon wages. It's reassuring to see so many people saying this gets resolved eventually, even though the waiting is stressful when you need the money for basic expenses. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•I'm going through this too right now! Just applied two weeks ago after moving from Nevada and got the same "ineligible pending" status. It's such a relief to read all these responses because I was panicking thinking I did something wrong on my application. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking when you're counting on those benefits to pay bills. I called last Friday and they confirmed they're processing my Combined Wage Claim for my Nevada wages, but said it could take another 2-3 weeks. At least we know we're not alone in this confusing process! Keep us updated on how your call goes tomorrow.

I'm dealing with something very similar right now! Just filed my claim two weeks ago after moving here from Texas and I'm seeing that same confusing "ineligible pending" status. Like you, I definitely have enough qualifying wages between both states, but it seems like Washington's system can't see my Texas employment history yet. Reading through all these responses has been so helpful - I had no idea about the Combined Wage Claim process and that I need to specifically call them to request it. It's frustrating how the system makes it seem like you're denied when really they just haven't finished verifying everything. I'm going to call ESD tomorrow morning to make sure they're processing a CWC for my Texas wages. Thanks for posting this question - it's reassuring to know so many of us are going through the same confusing process and that it does eventually get resolved!

•I'm glad this thread is helping so many people! I was feeling so lost when I first saw that status. One thing I learned from calling ESD - when you call tomorrow, have your Texas employer information ready (company name, dates of employment, and approximate wages if you remember). They'll ask for those details to request the wage verification from Texas. Also, if you get disconnected or can't get through, try calling right when they open at 8 AM - that seems to be the best time to actually reach someone. The whole interstate wage verification process is such a pain, but at least we know what we're dealing with now!

I went through this exact same situation when I moved from Arizona to Washington last fall! That "ineligible pending" status is so misleading - I thought I was completely denied at first. What's happening is that Washington can only see your local wage history initially, so they're showing you as potentially ineligible until they can verify your out-of-state wages. The "no benefits available" message is definitely from an old claim in their system - ignore that part completely. Here's what worked for me: call ESD and specifically ask them to process a Combined Wage Claim including your California wages. Have your CA employer details ready (company name, employment dates, approximate wages earned). The whole process took about 3 weeks for me, but once they got my Arizona wage verification back, my status changed to eligible and I received all my back payments. Most importantly, keep filing your weekly claims even with the confusing status - you'll get paid retroactively once it's approved. The system is frustrating but it does work out in the end!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I was starting to panic thinking I'd somehow messed up my application, but knowing that the "no benefits available" message is just leftover from an old claim makes so much sense. I actually do have all my California employer info saved from when I was job hunting, so I'll have everything ready when I call tomorrow. It's such a relief to know that you got all your back payments once the Arizona verification went through - that gives me hope that this will work out. Thanks for sharing your timeline too, knowing it took about 3 weeks helps me set realistic expectations instead of checking my account every day expecting immediate changes!
