How to file unemployment weekly claim on Washington ESD website - step by step help needed
I just got approved for unemployment benefits after waiting 6 weeks for adjudication to finish. Now I need to file my weekly claims but I'm totally confused about the process on the Washington ESD website. I logged into my account but there are so many different sections and I don't want to mess anything up. Can someone walk me through exactly how to file unemployment weekly claim? Do I need to do it every week or just when they tell me to? Also worried about the job search requirements - how many do I need to report each week?

Congrats on getting approved! The weekly claim filing is pretty straightforward once you know where to look. Log into your Washington ESD account and look for 'Weekly Claim' or 'File Weekly Claim' on your dashboard. You'll need to file every Sunday for the previous week. Make sure you answer all the questions honestly about any work you did and wages earned.

•Thanks! I see the weekly claim section now. Do I file it on Sunday for the week that just ended or the week before that?

•File on Sunday for the week that ended Saturday. So if today is Sunday, you're filing for last Monday through Saturday.

You have to file every single week even if you worked some hours or you'll lose your benefits. I learned this the hard way when I skipped one week thinking I didn't need to file because I worked 30 hours. Had to restart my whole claim!

•Oh no! So even if I work part time I still need to file the weekly claim?

Elin Robinson
•Yes absolutely! Just report your gross wages and they'll calculate your partial benefit amount. Never skip filing.

For the job search requirements, you need to complete 3 job search activities per week. These can be applying for jobs, attending job fairs, networking events, or using WorkSourceWA services. Keep detailed records because Washington ESD can audit your job search log at any time.

•Do I need to enter these job searches when I file my weekly claim or keep them separate?

Atticus Domingo
•You just confirm that you completed your job search activities when filing your weekly claim. Keep your own detailed log with dates, employers, and what you did. Don't enter specifics in the weekly claim unless asked.

I've been struggling with this too. The Washington ESD phone lines are always busy when I need help with my weekly claims. I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person at Washington ESD. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works. Made it so much easier to get my questions answered.

•How much does that cost? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks about my weekly claim issues.

•It's worth it when you're stuck and can't get through. Way less frustrating than calling for hours and getting hung up on.

One important thing - make sure your address and contact info is current in your Washington ESD account before filing weekly claims. If they need to send you any correspondence and your address is wrong, it can delay your payments.

•Good point! I just moved last month so I should double check that.

•YES this is so important. I had mail going to my old address and missed important notices about my claim.

Also heads up - if you're on standby status with your employer, the weekly claim process is a little different. You still file every week but some of the questions about looking for work might not apply to you. Make sure you understand your specific claim type.

•I don't think I'm on standby. How do I know for sure?

Elin Robinson
•It would show in your claim details if you were on standby. Regular UI claims require active job search, standby claims don't.

The Washington ESD website can be glitchy sometimes, especially on Sunday mornings when everyone is filing. If you get error messages, try again later in the day. Don't panic if it doesn't work right away.

•What happens if I can't file by the deadline because of technical issues?

Isaiah Cross
•You can usually file late with a good reason. Document the technical issues and contact Washington ESD if needed.

Pro tip: Set up a weekly reminder on your phone for Sunday mornings to file your claim. It's easy to forget and then you're scrambling to file late or missing the deadline entirely.

•That's a great idea! I'll set that up right now.

•I use a Sunday alarm too. Has saved me from forgetting multiple times.

I'm so frustrated with this whole process. Been trying to get help with my weekly claims for weeks and can't get through to anyone at Washington ESD. The automated system just hangs up on me every time.

•That's exactly why I mentioned Claimyr earlier. They specialize in getting people through to Washington ESD agents. Saved me hours of calling.

•I might have to try that. This is ridiculous how hard it is to get basic help.

Quick question - do I need to file a weekly claim for the week I was approved or start the following week? I got approved on a Wednesday.
0 coins
Ivanna St. Pierre
•You can file for any week after your claim effective date. So if you were approved Wednesday, you could file for that week or wait until the next week.

Evelyn Kelly
•Thanks! I'll file for the full week to be safe.

Make sure you file before the deadline! I think it's Saturday night but double check your account. Missing the deadline means no payment for that week.

Esteban Tate
•Wait, I thought the deadline was Sunday? Now I'm confused.

Atticus Domingo
•You can file from Sunday through the following Saturday. So you have the whole week to file your weekly claim, but most people do it Sunday for the week that just ended.

Been filing weekly claims for 12 weeks now. The process gets easier but Washington ESD's system is still confusing. Sometimes I wish they would just call me instead of making me navigate their website every week.

•Do you ever have issues with the website being slow or not working?

Heather Tyson
•Oh yeah, especially Sunday mornings. I usually wait until afternoon or evening to avoid the rush.

Don't forget to report ALL income when you file your weekly claim, including any cash jobs or gig work. Washington ESD will find out eventually and you'll have to pay back overpayments plus penalties.

•Even small amounts like $50 from a one-time job?

Raul Neal
•Yes, report everything. It's better to be honest and get a reduced benefit than get caught later.

The job search requirement is 3 activities per week but make sure they're legitimate job search activities. Browsing job sites doesn't count unless you actually apply. Keep good records!

•What exactly counts as a job search activity?

•Applying for jobs, attending job fairs, networking events, informational interviews, using WorkSourceWA services. Check their website for the full list.

I had to use Claimyr twice when I had issues with my weekly claims. First time was when my claim got stuck in some kind of review status, second time was when I needed to update my job search requirements. Both times they got me through to Washington ESD agents who actually helped.

•How quickly did they get you through to someone?

•Usually same day or next day. Way better than spending hours on hold just to get disconnected.

Filing weekly claims is just part of the process. The key is being consistent and honest. I've been doing it for 6 months now and never missed a payment as long as I file on time.

Esteban Tate
•6 months? How long can you collect unemployment benefits?

•Regular UI benefits are up to 26 weeks in Washington. Extensions are rare unless there's special circumstances.

The most important thing is to file every single week even if you think you might not qualify that week. Let Washington ESD decide if you get benefits - don't make that decision for them by not filing.
0 coins
Esteban Tate
•That makes sense. Better to file and get nothing than not file and miss out.
0 coins
Muhammad Hobbs
•Exactly! I've seen people lose weeks of benefits by second-guessing themselves.

One last tip - if you ever have problems with your weekly claim or need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about claim issues, don't waste time trying to call them directly. The wait times are ridiculous and they hang up constantly. Services like Claimyr are worth it when you need actual help.

•I'll definitely keep that in mind if I run into any issues. Thanks for the recommendation!

Just wanted to add that you should also make sure your bank account information is up to date in your Washington ESD profile before filing your first weekly claim. If your direct deposit info is wrong, your payments will get delayed or sent to the wrong account. I had to wait an extra 2 weeks for my first payment because my old bank account was still on file. You can update it in the "Payment Method" section of your account dashboard.

•That's such an important point! I didn't even think about checking my bank info. I opened a new account last month so I better make sure it's updated before I file my first claim. Do you know if there's a delay when you change your direct deposit info or does it take effect right away?

Steven Adams
•Usually takes one business day for bank account changes to take effect. I'd recommend updating it right away and then filing your claim - should be fine by the time your payment processes. Just make sure you double-check the routing and account numbers are correct!
