How to file weekly unemployment claims on Washington ESD - need step by step help
I just got approved for unemployment benefits and I'm completely lost on how to file my weekly claims. The Washington ESD website is confusing and I don't want to mess this up. Can someone walk me through the exact steps? Do I need to file every week or can I skip weeks? I'm worried I'll miss a deadline and lose my benefits.

You need to file every week to get paid, even if you didn't work. Log into your account on esd.wa.gov and look for the 'File Weekly Claim' link. It's usually available starting Sunday for the previous week.

•Thank you! So I file on Sunday for the week that just ended? What if I forget to file one week?

•Yes exactly. If you miss a week you can still file it later but there might be a delay in payment. Don't skip weeks or you'll lose benefits for those weeks.

Here's the step by step: 1) Log into esd.wa.gov 2) Click File Weekly Claim 3) Answer all questions honestly about work and earnings 4) Submit before midnight Saturday. You have to certify you're able and available for work and actively looking for jobs.

•What does 'able and available' actually mean? I have a doctor's appointment this week, does that count against me?

•Able and available means you can work if offered a job. A doctor's appointment is fine, just don't lie about it. Answer honestly about any limitations.

I was struggling with this too until I found Claimyr. They help you get through to Washington ESD agents when you need to ask questions about filing. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works.

•Is that legit? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks about my weekly claim issues.

•Yeah it's real. I used it last month when I was confused about reporting part-time work. Got through to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of calling all day.

MAKE SURE you report ANY work or income, even if it's just a few hours. I made that mistake once and got hit with an overpayment notice. Washington ESD finds out everything eventually.

•What counts as work? I did some freelance writing for $50, do I have to report that?
0 coins
Issac Nightingale
•YES report everything! Even $1 of income needs to be reported. Better safe than sorry with overpayments.

•This is correct. Any work or income during the week needs to be reported when you file your weekly claim.

The job search requirement is 3 activities per week. Keep a log of everything - applications, networking, interviews. They can audit you anytime.

•Where do I keep this log? Is there a specific form?

•You can use the WorkSourceWA website or just keep your own spreadsheet. Include company name, date, type of activity, and contact info.

i've been filing for 6 months now and it becomes routine. just dont lie about anything and file every week on time. the system works if you follow the rules

•How long does it take to get paid after filing?

I got disqualified once because I answered a question wrong about being available for work. Had to appeal and it took 6 weeks to get it sorted out. Read every question carefully!

•What question did you mess up? I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake.

•I said I wasn't available for work one day because I had a family emergency, but I should have explained it better. They thought I was refusing work.

Pro tip: file your weekly claim on the same day every week to build a routine. I do mine every Sunday morning with coffee. Never missed one in 8 months.

•Good advice! I'm going to start doing Sunday mornings too.

•That's a great idea. Consistency would definitely help me remember.

If you work part-time while on unemployment, they'll deduct some of your UI benefits but you can still get partial payments. It's worth working even a few hours.

•How much can you work before losing all benefits?
0 coins
Freya Ross
•It depends on your weekly benefit amount. Generally you can earn up to your weekly benefit amount plus $5 before losing everything.

Washington ESD system goes down for maintenance sometimes on weekends. If you can't file your weekly claim, try later or early Monday morning. Don't panic if the site is temporarily unavailable.

•This happened to me last month! I thought I was going to miss the deadline.

Sergio Neal
•Yeah they usually extend the deadline if there are system issues. Just file as soon as you can.

Make sure your address and bank info are current before filing. I had payment delays because my direct deposit info was outdated.

Monique Byrd
•Where do I update that information?

Juan Moreno
•In your esd.wa.gov account under profile settings. Double check everything is accurate.

The questions are basically the same every week - did you work, did you look for work, are you able to work, etc. Takes like 5 minutes once you get used to it.

•That's reassuring. I was worried it would be complicated every time.

Amy Fleming
•Nope, very straightforward. Just be honest and consistent with your answers.

If you're on standby unemployment (like seasonal layoff), the process is a bit different. You still file weekly but don't need to do job search activities.

•How do you know if you qualify for standby?
0 coins
Esteban Tate
•Your employer has to request it and there's a specific return to work date. It's not common but exists for certain industries.

I tried using Claimyr when I had questions about my weekly claims and it was a game changer. Actually got to talk to a real person at Washington ESD instead of being stuck on hold forever.

•How much does it cost?

•I don't want to get into pricing but it was worth it for me. Saved me hours of calling and getting nowhere.

Keep screenshots of your filed weekly claims. I had a dispute once and having proof I filed on time saved me a lot of hassle.

•Yeah, just screenshot the confirmation page. Better safe than sorry with unemployment claims.

The whole system is designed to trip you up if you ask me. Read everything twice and keep records of everything. Washington ESD is not your friend.

•That's a bit harsh but I get what you mean. The system can be confusing.

•After dealing with overpayments and appeals, I'm just saying be careful. They're quick to take benefits away but slow to give them back.

For anyone still confused, I used Claimyr last week to get clarification on filing weekly claims. The agent explained everything clearly and I finally understand the process. Really recommend it.

Monique Byrd
•I might try that. I'm still nervous about messing something up.

•Go for it. Having someone explain it directly was so much better than trying to figure it out from the website.

One more tip - set up text or email alerts for when your payment is processed. It's nice to know when to expect the money in your account.

Evelyn Kelly
•Where do you set that up?

Kiara Greene
•In your Washington ESD account settings. You can choose what notifications you want to receive.
