How do you file your weekly claim for unemployment - Washington ESD process?
I just got approved for unemployment benefits through Washington ESD and I'm confused about filing my weekly claims. The approval letter mentions I need to file every week but doesn't really explain the process. Do I file online through the eServices portal? What information do I need to have ready? I'm worried about messing something up and losing my benefits. Any help would be appreciated!

You file through the Washington ESD eServices website. Log in with your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account and look for the 'File Weekly Claim' option. You'll need to report any work you did that week, any money you earned, and answer questions about whether you were able and available for work.

•Thanks! Do I need to file even if I didn't work at all that week?

•Yes, you still need to file even if you didn't work. Just report zero earnings and answer the availability questions.

Make sure you have your job search activities ready too. Washington ESD requires you to do at least 3 job search activities per week and you might need to report them when filing your weekly claim.

•What counts as a job search activity? I've been applying to jobs online.

•Online applications count, but you also need to keep a log with employer names, dates, and what type of contact you made. Check WorkSourceWA for more approved activities.

I was having trouble getting through to Washington ESD when I had questions about my weekly filing. Spent hours on hold. Someone here mentioned Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually helped me get connected to an agent quickly. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is that legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party services for government stuff.

•Yeah I was hesitant too but it worked. They don't ask for your personal info, just help you get through the phone system to talk to an actual Washington ESD person.

The weekly claim filing window is usually Sunday through Saturday for the previous week. You have until 11:59 PM on Saturday to file for that week. If you miss the deadline, you might be able to file a late claim but there could be delays in your payment.

•What happens if you forget to file for a week? Do you lose that week's benefits?

•You can usually file late claims but it might delay your payment. Contact Washington ESD as soon as possible if you miss a week.

ugh this system is so confusing!! why cant they just make it simple. i keep getting different answers about whether i need to report my part time work hours or just the money i made

•You need to report both - the hours you worked AND the gross wages you earned before taxes. Be accurate because they cross-check with employer reports.

•ok thanks. this is all so stressful

Pro tip: File your weekly claim on the same day each week to build a routine. I do mine every Sunday morning and it only takes 5-10 minutes once you get used to it.

•That's a good idea. How long does it usually take for the payment to show up?

•If you file on Sunday, payments usually process by Tuesday or Wednesday if you have direct deposit set up.

Make sure you're answering the able and available questions correctly. If you say you weren't available for work for any reason, it might flag your claim for review.

•What if you're sick one day but still looking for work the rest of the week?

•Generally you'd still answer yes to able and available if it was just one day and you were actively job searching. But if you're unsure, it's better to call Washington ESD for clarification.

The questions on the weekly claim can be confusing. They ask about vacation pay, holiday pay, pension payments, and other income. Make sure you understand what each one means before answering.

•Do I need to report unemployment benefits from other states?

Mason Stone
•Yes, you need to report any other unemployment benefits you're receiving. You can't collect from multiple states at the same time.

I messed up my first few weekly claims and had to get them corrected. It took forever to get through to someone at Washington ESD. My friend told me about Claimyr and it actually worked - got connected to an agent in like 10 minutes instead of hours on hold.

•How much does that service cost?

•I don't want to get into pricing details but it was worth it to get my claims fixed quickly instead of waiting weeks for a callback.

Download the weekly claim confirmation after you submit it! I always save a copy just in case there are any issues later. You can access it right after filing.

•Good tip! Where do you save them?

Emma Olsen
•I just save them to a folder on my computer labeled 'unemployment docs' along with all my other Washington ESD paperwork.

The system usually opens for weekly claim filing on Sunday morning around 6 AM. Sometimes it's down for maintenance so don't wait until the last minute on Saturday night to file.

•Yeah I learned this the hard way! Filed at 11:45 PM on Saturday and the system was doing updates.

•Exactly! Give yourself a buffer. I usually file by Friday evening just to be safe.

If you're on standby status, the weekly claim process is a little different. You still need to file but you won't need to do job search activities. Make sure your employer is reporting your status correctly to Washington ESD.

•How do you know if you're on standby status vs regular unemployment?
0 coins
Austin Leonard
•Your employer has to apply for standby status for you. It's for temporary layoffs where you're expected to return to work within a specific timeframe.

Keep track of your benefit year dates! Your weekly claims are only valid during your benefit year. If your year expires, you might need to file a new claim.

•Where do I find my benefit year dates?

•Check your monetary determination letter or log into eServices - it should show your benefit year start and end dates.

Remember that Washington ESD can audit your claims later, so keep good records of everything - job search activities, work hours, wages earned. Don't just rely on your memory.

•How long should you keep these records?
0 coins
Isla Fischer
•I'd keep everything for at least a year after your benefit year ends, just to be safe. You never know when they might ask for documentation.

If you're doing gig work or freelancing while on unemployment, make sure you understand how to report that income correctly. It's not the same as regular W-2 wages.

Micah Franklin
•Yeah I drive for uber sometimes and was confused about how to report those earnings.
0 coins
Ruby Blake
•For gig work, you typically report the gross earnings for the week you actually received the payment, not when you did the work.

The Washington ESD mobile app can be helpful for filing weekly claims on the go, but I still prefer using the full website on a computer. Easier to see all the details.

•I didn't know there was a mobile app! What's it called?

Ella Harper
•I think it's just called 'Washington ESD' in the app stores, but double-check it's the official one from the state.

When I had questions about my weekly claims, I tried calling Washington ESD for weeks with no luck. Finally used Claimyr to get through and the agent explained everything clearly. Wish I had known about it sooner!

•These phone services seem to be getting popular. Is it just for unemployment offices?

Brooklyn Knight
•I think Claimyr focuses specifically on unemployment agencies. Made sense to me since that's exactly what I needed help with.

One more thing - if your weekly claim gets flagged for any reason and goes into pending status, don't panic. It happens sometimes and usually resolves within a few days. Just keep filing your weekly claims while it's being reviewed.

Dylan Baskin
•What causes claims to get flagged?

Daniel Rivera
•Could be anything - reporting income, changes in availability, random audits. The system is pretty sensitive but most issues resolve quickly.

•This happened to me when I started a part-time job. Took about a week for them to adjust my benefits but everything worked out fine.
