How to check unemployment overpayment balance with Washington ESD?
I got a letter from Washington ESD saying I have an overpayment from 2023 and need to start making payments. The letter shows the total amount but doesn't explain how to check my current balance or see payment history. I've been making payments through their website but want to make sure they're being applied correctly. Where can I see my remaining overpayment balance and payment records? The SecureAccess Washington portal doesn't seem to have a clear section for this.

You can check your overpayment balance by logging into your Washington ESD account through SecureAccess Washington. Look for the 'Overpayment' or 'Account Balance' section under your claim details. It should show your original debt amount, payments made, and remaining balance.

•I've looked everywhere in my account but can't find an overpayment section. Is it under a different name maybe?

•Sometimes it's listed under 'Benefit Payments' or 'Financial Summary.' Try checking the main dashboard for any debt or balance information.

I had the same problem tracking my overpayment balance. Washington ESD's website is confusing for this stuff. I ended up calling them directly but it took forever to get through.

•How long did it take you to reach someone? I've been trying to call for weeks.

•If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD by phone, you might want to check out Claimyr.com. They help people connect with ESD agents faster. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

The overpayment balance should be visible in your online account, but Washington ESD's system is notoriously bad at displaying this information clearly. You might need to look under 'Determinations' or 'Notices' to find details about your debt.

•I found some old notices but they don't show current balance, just the original overpayment amount.

•That's frustrating but typical. The online system often doesn't update payment history in real time. You may need to call or request a statement.

ugh this is so annoying!! why cant they just have a simple balance page like every other website?? i've been paying mine for months and have no idea how much is left

•Same here! I feel like I'm paying into a black hole. At least with credit cards you can see your balance going down.

•Totally agree, the Washington ESD website is terrible for tracking overpayments.

You can also request a detailed overpayment statement by calling Washington ESD's customer service line. They should be able to provide you with a complete payment history and current balance over the phone.

•Do you know if there's a specific number for overpayment questions, or is it the main UI customer service line?

•It's usually the main customer service line, but they can transfer you to collections or overpayment specialists if needed.

I tried using Claimyr to get through to Washington ESD about my overpayment balance and it actually worked! Got connected to an agent who pulled up my account and gave me the exact remaining balance and payment history. Way better than trying to navigate their confusing website.

•Really? How much did that cost? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•It was worth it for me since I'd been trying to get through for weeks. The agent was able to explain everything about my overpayment and set up a better payment plan.

Another option is to check if you receive monthly statements in the mail. Washington ESD sometimes sends overpayment balance statements, but not consistently.

•I haven't gotten any statements in the mail. Should I be receiving them automatically?

Nora Brooks
•Not necessarily. It seems random who gets them and who doesn't. You might need to specifically request them.

Try looking under 'Payment History' in your account. Mine shows both benefit payments I received and overpayment collections they've taken. It's not super clear but the information is there.

•Found the payment history section but it's confusing. Shows lots of transactions but doesn't clearly indicate which ones are for overpayment.

•Yeah, you have to kind of piece it together. Look for negative amounts or transactions labeled as 'collections' or 'debt recovery.

If you're making payments through the website, you should be getting email confirmations for each payment. Those emails usually include your remaining balance after the payment is processed.

•I've been getting payment confirmations but they don't show remaining balance, just the payment amount.

•That's weird, mine always show the balance after payment. Maybe it depends on how you're making the payments?

Washington ESD's overpayment tracking is a mess. I ended up keeping my own spreadsheet to track payments because their system is so unreliable. Start with your original overpayment amount and subtract each payment you make.

•That's actually a good idea. At least I'd have my own record of what I've paid.

•I do the same thing! Take screenshots of every payment confirmation too, just in case.

You can also try calling first thing in the morning when they open. I've had better luck getting through to Washington ESD early in the day to ask about overpayment balances.

•What time do they open? I've been calling in the afternoon and can never get through.

•I think it's 8 AM. Set an alarm and call right when they open, before everyone else starts calling.

if you have wage garnishment for the overpayment, your paystubs should show how much is being taken out. that can help you calculate remaining balance too

Grace Johnson
•No garnishment, I'm making voluntary payments through their website.

Debra Bai
•oh ok nevermind then. voluntary payments are harder to track unfortunately

I used Claimyr recently to get through to Washington ESD about a different issue but asked about my overpayment while I had them on the line. The agent was super helpful and explained exactly how to navigate to the balance information in my online account. Apparently there's a specific path you have to follow that's not obvious.

•Can you share the steps they told you? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

•From what I remember: Login → Go to 'Benefit Programs' → Select your claim → Look for 'Account Summary' or 'Financial Details.' But honestly, having the agent walk me through it over the phone was way easier.

The Washington ESD mobile app sometimes shows different information than the website. Have you tried checking there for your overpayment balance?

Grace Johnson
•Didn't know they had an app! I'll download it and see if it shows more information.

•The app is pretty basic but worth a try. Sometimes it's easier to navigate than the full website.

If you set up automatic payments, you should get monthly statements showing your balance. But if you're making manual payments, the tracking seems to be hit or miss with Washington ESD's system.

Grace Johnson
•I've been making manual payments. Maybe I should switch to automatic to get better tracking.

Samuel Robinson
•That might help, but make sure you understand the payment schedule before setting it up automatically.

This whole thread is making me realize how broken Washington ESD's overpayment system is. We shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to see our account balance.

•Seriously! Every other bill I have shows my balance clearly. This is ridiculous.

•Agreed. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to try the Claimyr service and see if I can get through to someone who can actually help.

I work in debt collection and deal with state agencies regularly. Washington ESD's overpayment system is notoriously difficult to navigate. Here's what I'd recommend: 1) Log into your SecureAccess account and look under "Account Information" or "Claims" - sometimes the balance is buried in subsections. 2) Check your bank statements for payment confirmations that might include balance info. 3) If all else fails, send a written request for an account statement to Washington ESD - they're required to provide this information. Keep records of everything, and don't rely solely on their online system since it's known to have delays and display issues.

•This is really helpful advice! I especially like the suggestion about sending a written request - I hadn't thought of that option. Do you know if there's a specific address or form I need to use for requesting an account statement from Washington ESD? Also, about how long do they typically take to respond to written requests?
