How much money does unemployment give in Washington ESD weekly benefits?
I'm thinking about filing for unemployment but need to know what kind of money I'd actually get from Washington ESD. I was making about $52,000 a year at my last job before getting laid off. Does anyone know how they calculate the weekly benefit amount? I've heard it's based on your previous wages but I can't find clear info on their website about actual dollar amounts.

Washington ESD calculates your weekly benefit amount using your highest earning quarter from your base period. Generally it's around 3.85% of your total wages in that quarter. So if you made $13,000 in your highest quarter, you'd get around $500 per week.

•That's helpful! So it's based on quarterly earnings not annual salary. I'll have to look at my pay stubs to figure out my highest quarter.

•Don't forget there's a maximum weekly benefit amount too - I think it's around $929 per week in 2025 but you should double check that on the Washington ESD website.

The minimum weekly benefit in Washington is $295 and the maximum is $929 as of 2025. Your benefit amount depends on your wages during the base period which is typically the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before you file your claim.

•So if I file in January 2025, my base period would be January 2024 through December 2024?

StarSailor
•Not exactly - it would be October 2023 through September 2024. The base period doesn't include the most recent quarter because employers need time to report wages to Washington ESD.

I've been struggling to get through to Washington ESD to ask about my benefit calculation. Their phone lines are always busy and I keep getting disconnected after waiting for hours. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to someone there?

•I had the same problem until I found Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. They have this system that calls for you and gets you connected. Check out claimyr.com - they even have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•That sounds too good to be true. Is it legit? I'm desperate at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•It's totally legit! I used it last month when I needed to talk to someone about my adjudication. They got me through in about 20 minutes instead of the usual hours of trying.

the amount varies alot depending on what you made. i got like $380 a week but my friend got almost $700. it all depends on your wages from the year before you file

•That's a huge difference! I guess I really need to look at my earnings history to get an idea.

You can estimate your benefit amount before filing by looking at your wages in your highest earning quarter and multiplying by 0.0385. But keep in mind you also have to meet the minimum earnings requirements - you need at least $3,850 in your base period and earnings in at least two quarters.

•What happens if you don't meet those requirements? Can you still get benefits?

•If you don't meet the regular requirements, Washington ESD will check if you qualify using an alternate base period. That uses the most recent four quarters instead of the standard base period.

I'm getting $445 per week right now. I was making about $48,000 annually before I got laid off. The calculation seemed pretty straightforward once I understood it's based on quarterly wages not yearly salary.

•That's close to what I might expect then since our salaries were similar. Did you have any issues with the application process?

QuantumQuest
•Not really, just took a while to get approved. Make sure you have all your employment information ready when you file.

THE WASHINGTON ESD SYSTEM IS SO CONFUSING!!! I've been trying to figure out my benefit amount for weeks and can't get a straight answer from anyone. Why can't they just tell you upfront what you'll get?

•I understand the frustration. The calculation seems complex but it's actually pretty standard across most states. Washington ESD has to verify your wage history with employers before they can give you an exact amount.

•yeah the whole system is a mess. took me forever to get my first payment too

Another thing to consider is that unemployment benefits are taxable income. You can choose to have taxes withheld from your weekly payments or you'll need to pay them when you file your tax return.

•Good point! I hadn't thought about the tax implications. Is it better to have them withhold taxes or pay later?

Natasha Petrova
•That depends on your situation. If you think you'll owe taxes at the end of the year, it might be easier to have them withhold 10% from each payment.

I tried calling Washington ESD yesterday to ask about benefit amounts and couldn't get through after 3 hours of trying. This is ridiculous!

•Same here! I keep getting the busy signal or getting disconnected. Someone mentioned Claimyr earlier - has anyone actually used it successfully?

•I used Claimyr two weeks ago when I needed help with my weekly claim. It actually worked - they got me connected to a real person at Washington ESD in about 15 minutes. Worth checking out if you're stuck.

For reference, here are the 2025 Washington unemployment benefit amounts: Minimum $295/week, Maximum $929/week. Your amount is calculated as 3.85% of your wages in your highest earning quarter during the base period.

•This is exactly what I needed to know! So if my highest quarter was $15,000, I'd get about $577 per week?

Malik Robinson
•That's correct! $15,000 × 0.0385 = $577.50 per week, assuming you meet all other eligibility requirements.

I'm in a similar situation - made about $50k last year and wondering what to expect. Based on what everyone's saying, I should probably get around $500-600 per week if I qualify.

•That sounds about right. Just remember it's temporary - you can collect for up to 26 weeks in Washington if you keep meeting the requirements.

The benefit calculator on Washington ESD website is pretty accurate if you can find it. I used it before filing and it was within $20 of my actual weekly amount.

•I looked for a calculator but couldn't find one on their site. Do you have a direct link?

•I can't find it now either - they might have moved it or taken it down. That's frustrating because it was really helpful.

Just remember that even if you get approved, there's usually a waiting week before you receive your first payment. Budget accordingly!

Ava Thompson
•Wait, so there's a delay before the first payment? How long does it typically take?
0 coins
CosmicCadet
•The waiting week is the first week you file. You won't get paid for that week, but if you're eligible, you'll start getting payments for the following weeks.

I was skeptical about using Claimyr but honestly it saved me so much time and frustration. When you're dealing with unemployment stress, the last thing you need is spending all day trying to get through to Washington ESD.

•How much does it cost though? I'm already tight on money.

•They have different options but honestly the time and stress it saves is worth it. You can check their website for current info - claimyr.com.
