How long to receive first unemployment payment from Washington ESD?
Filed my UI claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and still haven't gotten my first payment. My claim shows as active and I've been doing my weekly claims every Sunday. Account says there's no issues or holds. Is this normal? Getting stressed about rent being due next week and really need to know when I can expect that first check to hit my account.

Usually takes 2-3 weeks for first payment if everything goes smoothly. Since you filed 2 weeks ago you should see something soon, assuming no adjudication issues.

•Thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear. Just nerve-wracking when bills are piling up.

•Check your payment history in your account, sometimes it shows pending before it actually deposits

Did you set up direct deposit or are you waiting for a debit card? Direct deposit is usually faster - about 1-2 business days after Washington ESD processes your weekly claim. The debit card can take longer to arrive in the mail.

•I did direct deposit, so hopefully that speeds things up!

•yeah direct deposit is definitely the way to go, way faster than waiting for that card

I had the same issue last month - claim looked fine but no payment for 3 weeks. Turns out there was some verification thing they needed that wasn't showing up in my account. I tried calling Washington ESD for days but could never get through. Finally found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Got my issue resolved the same day I used it.

•Interesting, never heard of that service. Did it cost anything?

•There's a fee but it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of getting hung up on constantly. My payments started the next week.

•I've seen that service mentioned before but wasn't sure if it was legit. Good to hear it worked for you.

Check if you completed your ID verification. Washington ESD requires identity verification for new claims and this can hold up your first payment even if your claim shows active. Look for any messages or alerts in your account that might mention ID.me or similar verification steps.

•I did the ID.me thing when I first filed, got the confirmation email and everything. Should be good on that front.

•Good, then you're probably just in the normal processing timeframe. Keep filing your weekly claims even if you haven't gotten paid yet.

THE WAITING IS THE WORST PART!! I swear Washington ESD does this on purpose to make people give up. My first payment took almost a month because of some random adjudication issue they never properly explained.

•ugh yes the stress of waiting for that first check is brutal when you have bills due

Alice Coleman
•Did you ever find out what the adjudication was about?

•Something about my previous employer not responding to their inquiry fast enough. Total BS if you ask me.

Make sure you're filing your weekly claims exactly right. If you miss any questions or put the wrong info it can delay everything. Also double check that your bank account info is correct for direct deposit.

•Yeah I've been super careful with the weekly claims, always file them Sunday evening. Bank info should be right too.

•Good habit filing on Sundays, that's what I do too. Gives the system time to process before the week starts.

took me 3 weeks to get first payment but after that they came regularly every week. just gotta be patient with the initial processing

•That's reassuring, thanks. Just hard to be patient when money's tight.

•I feel you on the money being tight part. Hang in there!

Another thing to check - make sure you don't have any outstanding overpayments from previous claims. Washington ESD will hold new payments if you owe money from before, even if it's just a few dollars.

•This is my first time filing for unemployment so shouldn't be any overpayments to worry about.

•Perfect, then you should be in the clear on that front.

If you don't hear anything by the end of this week I'd definitely try to contact them. The phone system is terrible but sometimes you can get through early in the morning around 7:30am when they first open.

•Good tip about calling early, I'll try that if I don't see a payment soon.

•Or you could try that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•Is that service actually legit? Seems too good to be true to just skip the phone wait

Based on your timeline, you filed 2 weeks ago and have been doing weekly claims. If there are no issues in your account, you should see your first payment this week or next. Washington ESD typically processes payments Tuesday-Thursday, so check your account Wednesday/Thursday.

Alice Coleman
•Okay that gives me a good timeline to watch for. I'll check Wednesday and Thursday this week.

•Yeah Wednesday is usually when mine hits the account if there are no problems

Don't panic yet! Two weeks is still within normal range. I know it feels like forever when you need the money but Washington ESD is usually pretty good about getting payments out once everything is verified.

You might want to double-check that you completed all the required steps. Sometimes there are things like work search requirements or additional forms that need to be submitted before first payment.
0 coins
Alice Coleman
•I thought work search wasn't required for the first few weeks? But I'll double check my account for any missing forms.

Arjun Patel
•You're right, work search requirement starts after the waiting week. But there can be other verification steps depending on your situation.

Same boat here - filed 10 days ago and nothing yet. At least I know I'm not the only one waiting!

Alice Coleman
•Yeah it's weirdly comforting to know others are in the same situation. Hoping we both get payments soon!

If you're really concerned, you could try using that Claimyr thing someone mentioned. I used it last year when I had an adjudication issue and it actually worked. Got through to an agent who explained exactly what was holding up my claim.

•Seems like a few people here have had success with that service. Might be worth looking into if I don't see movement soon.

Keep filing those weekly claims no matter what! Even if you don't get paid right away, you need to maintain that filing schedule or you'll lose benefits for those weeks.

Alice Coleman
•Absolutely, I've been religious about filing every Sunday. Not taking any chances with missing weeks.

•smart approach, those missed weeks can't be made up later
