How long does it take for Washington ESD unemployment to direct deposit after approval?

My weekly claim finally got approved yesterday after being stuck in adjudication for almost a month. I can see the payment amount in my account on the Washington ESD website, but I'm wondering how long it usually takes for the direct deposit to actually hit my bank account? I set up direct deposit when I first filed but this is my first payment. Really need to know because rent is due soon and I'm cutting it close. Anyone know the typical timeframe?

Usually takes 1-2 business days once Washington ESD processes the payment. Since it shows approved in your account, it should hit your bank pretty soon. Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your profile.

Thanks! I double checked and the routing/account numbers look right. Hopefully it comes through tomorrow then.

Mine always comes on Tuesday if I file my weekly claim on Sunday, so yeah about 2 days is normal

Congrats on getting through adjudication! I've been waiting 3 weeks myself and getting nowhere when I try calling Washington ESD. Their phone system is impossible.

Have you tried using Claimyr? I discovered it last month when I was having the same problem. It's at claimyr.com and they actually get you through to real Washington ESD agents. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me weeks of frustration trying to get through myself.

For direct deposit timing, it depends on your bank too. Some banks post deposits faster than others. Credit unions are usually quicker than big banks in my experience.

I have Chase, so hopefully they're not too slow with it

0 coins

Chase is usually pretty good, you should see it by Wednesday morning at the latest

One thing to watch out for - if there are any issues with your bank account info, Washington ESD will send a paper check instead and that takes like a week to arrive. But since you said the payment shows approved, you should be good.

Oh god I hope that doesn't happen. I really need this payment ASAP

If your direct deposit info was accepted when you set it up originally, you shouldn't have any problems. Washington ESD usually catches bank info errors right away.

Just to add my experience - I get my unemployment deposits every Tuesday morning around 6am. I file my weekly claim on Sundays and it's been consistent for months now.

0 coins

That's helpful to know the timing pattern, thanks!

Same here, Tuesday mornings like clockwork once you get into the routine

The first payment sometimes takes an extra day because they're setting up the direct deposit routing for the first time. After that it should be faster.

Makes sense, I figured the first one might be different

0 coins

Yeah my first payment took 3 days but every one after that was exactly 2 business days

@OP how long were you stuck in adjudication? I'm going on week 4 and starting to panic about my bills.

0 coins

Almost 4 weeks for me too. It was torture not knowing what was happening. I ended up calling and they said they were just backed up reviewing claims.

Four weeks is rough but not unusual lately. Washington ESD seems overwhelmed with the volume of claims they're processing.

0 coins

This is exactly why I mentioned Claimyr earlier - when you're stuck in adjudication that long, you really need to talk to someone at Washington ESD to find out what's causing the delay. Their automated system doesn't tell you much.

Pro tip: once you start getting regular payments, they usually hit your account the same day/time each week. Mine comes Tuesday at 3am every week.

Good to know I can expect a pattern once this gets going

0 coins

Yep, very predictable once the system has you set up properly

Question about direct deposit - do they send any kind of notification when the payment is sent, or do you just have to check your bank?

0 coins

You can see the payment history in your Washington ESD account online, but they don't send email notifications about deposits. I just check my bank app.

0 coins

No notifications from Washington ESD about deposits. The online account shows when payments are processed though

0 coins

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even after you get this first payment. I know someone who thought they were done after getting approved and stopped filing, then had to start the whole process over.

0 coins

Oh wow, good reminder. I definitely plan to keep filing every week until I find work.

0 coins

Yeah you have to keep certifying every week or they stop the payments. It's easy to forget when you're just relieved to finally get approved.

The waiting is the worst part of this whole process. Between adjudication delays and then waiting for the actual money to show up, it's so stressful when you have bills due.

0 coins

Exactly! The uncertainty is almost worse than not having the money yet

0 coins

I feel this so much. The whole unemployment system seems designed to make you anxious

0 coins

At least once you get through the initial hurdles, the weekly payments become routine and reliable

0 coins

For anyone still dealing with adjudication delays, I had success getting information about my case status using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Was able to find out exactly what documents Washington ESD needed from me instead of just waiting and wondering.

0 coins

Really? I might have to look into that. I have no idea why my claim is taking so long.

0 coins

Yeah, turns out they needed an additional verification form that I never got notified about. Once I submitted it, my claim was approved within a few days.

Update us when you get your deposit OP! Always curious to hear how long these things actually take in practice.

0 coins

Will do! Fingers crossed it comes through tomorrow morning

0 coins

Yeah let us know, this info helps other people who are waiting for their first payments too

0 coins

Just want to say hang in there everyone dealing with Washington ESD delays. The system is frustrating but once you get through the initial approval process, the weekly payments are pretty reliable.

0 coins

Thanks for the encouragement. Some days it feels like this process will never end

0 coins

It does get better once you're in the system properly. The hardest part is definitely getting that first approval

0 coins

One more thing - if your direct deposit doesn't come through in the expected timeframe, don't panic immediately. Sometimes there are bank processing delays on their end too, especially around holidays.

0 coins

Good point, I'll give it a few extra days before worrying if it doesn't show up Tuesday

0 coins

Yes, and you can always call your bank to see if there are any pending deposits on their end

0 coins

OP I hope your payment comes through quick! Dealing with rent stress on top of unemployment stress is the worst combination.

0 coins

Thank you! Yeah it's been a rough month but hopefully things are turning around now

0 coins

You made it through the hard part. Once that first payment hits, you'll feel so much better
