How do I get my unemployment money from Washington ESD - claim approved but no payment
My Washington ESD unemployment claim was approved 2 weeks ago but I still haven't received any money. I've been filing my weekly claims on time every week and they show as processed but my bank account is still empty. I called the unemployment office but can't get through to anyone. Is there something I'm missing? How long does it usually take to actually receive the money after your claim gets approved?

•This is so frustrating! I have bills to pay and they act like everything is fine once they approve it.

•Check your payment method in your account. Sometimes they need you to verify your direct deposit info even if you think it's set up correctly.

You need to make sure you're filing weekly claims AND that there are no pending issues on your account. Go to your secure.esd.wa.gov account and check for any alerts or required actions. Also verify your payment method is set up properly - direct deposit usually takes 2-3 business days after weekly claim processing.

•I checked and don't see any alerts. My direct deposit info looks right but maybe I should double check the routing number?

•Yes, definitely verify all your banking details. One wrong digit will cause payment delays. Also check if Washington ESD sent you any mail about additional verification requirements.

I had this same problem last month and it turned out I needed to complete identity verification even though my claim was approved. Check your online account for any ID.me requirements or document upload requests.

•How long did it take to get paid after you completed the identity verification?

Aisha Ali
•About a week after I uploaded all the documents. They processed all my back weeks at once which was nice.

I know this is frustrating but there's actually a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was having payment issues. They have a system that calls for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is this legit? I'm desperate at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•It's totally legitimate. I was skeptical too but they actually got me through to an agent who found the issue with my payment method. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

•Never heard of this but might be worth trying. The regular phone lines are impossible.

did you complete the work search requirements? sometimes they hold payments if you haven't been looking for jobs

Luca Bianchi
•I thought you didn't have to do job search until after a certain number of weeks? My claim is pretty new.

Mateo Gonzalez
•Work search requirements start immediately unless you're on standby status. You need to log 3 job search activities per week in WorkSourceWA.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! They approve claims but then find every excuse not to pay. I've been fighting this for months. Don't trust anything they tell you online.

•I feel you but some people do get their payments eventually. Trying to stay positive here.

•Yeah well I hope you have better luck than me. Been 4 months of runaround.

Let me break down the common payment delay causes: 1) Identity verification not complete 2) Banking info incorrect 3) Work search requirements not met 4) Adjudication issues still pending 5) Overpayment offset from previous claims. Check each of these systematically in your online account.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll go through each one tonight.

•What's an overpayment offset? Is that when they take money from new claims?
0 coins
Mateo Gonzalez
•Yes, if you owed Washington ESD money from a previous claim they'll deduct it from new benefit payments. Should show up in your payment history if that's happening.

I remember when I had this issue last year, turned out my bank had flagged the ESD deposits as suspicious and was blocking them. Had to call my bank to whitelist Washington ESD payments.

Luca Bianchi
•Oh wow, I never thought about that! I'll call my bank tomorrow.

Andre Moreau
•Yeah it's not common but does happen sometimes with newer banks or credit unions.

Quick question - are you seeing any payment amounts listed in your online account even if the money hasn't hit your bank? Sometimes there's a processing delay between when Washington ESD shows payment issued and when banks receive it.

Luca Bianchi
•Good point, let me check that. I've been so focused on my bank account I didn't look at the payment history section.

just went through this myself, ended up using that claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier and got connected to an agent who walked me through exactly what was wrong. saved me weeks of guessing

•Ok I'm definitely going to try Claimyr then. Multiple people here saying it works.

•Yeah it's worth it just to get a real person who can see your account and tell you exactly what's holding things up.

Make sure you're filing by the deadline each week too. I think it's Saturday night but double check. Missing even one weekly claim can mess up your whole payment schedule.

Luca Bianchi
•I've been filing every Sunday morning, is that too late?
0 coins
Mateo Gonzalez
•Sunday should be fine, the deadline is usually Sunday night at midnight. But filing earlier in the week is better to avoid any technical issues.

i hate to say this but you might need to just keep calling until you get through. took me 47 tries over 3 days but finally got someone who fixed my payment issue in 5 minutes

Luca Bianchi
•47 tries?? That's insane. There has to be a better way.

CosmicCadet
•yeah that's why people use services like claimyr now. way easier than the calling marathon.

Don't panic yet. Sometimes it takes a full pay period cycle to sync up properly. If your weekly claims are processing and showing paid, the money should come through soon. But definitely check all the verification stuff people mentioned above.

Luca Bianchi
•Thanks, trying not to stress but it's hard when bills are due.

•Totally understandable. Just don't give up - the system works eventually, it's just frustratingly slow sometimes.

Check if you selected the right benefit year when filing. I accidentally was filing under an old expired claim for weeks before realizing my mistake.

Luca Bianchi
•How do I check which benefit year I'm filing under?

Amara Adeyemi
•Should show at the top of your weekly claim page. Make sure the dates match when you actually applied for benefits.

this happened to my cousin and it was because she had an old address on file. even though her claim was approved, payments went to the wrong address somehow. might be worth updating all your contact info
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•But I thought payments were direct deposit? Why would address matter?
0 coins
Mateo Gonzalez
•Sometimes they mail paper checks if there's any issue with direct deposit. Address definitely matters for all correspondence.

The wait is brutal but hang in there. Once they start paying you should get all the back weeks at once. Just make sure you keep filing every week even if you're not getting paid yet.

Luca Bianchi
•Ok good to know about the back pay. I'll keep filing weekly while I figure this out.

Anyone else think it's ridiculous that they can approve your claim but then not actually pay you for weeks? The whole system needs an overhaul.
0 coins
StarSurfer
•EXACTLY! They act like approving the claim is the same as actually helping people.

•I get the frustration but there are legitimate reasons for verification delays. It's not all malicious.

OP, definitely try the Claimyr service if you can't get through on your own. I used it last month and the agent found that my social security number had a typo in the system. Fixed it immediately and payments started flowing within days.

Luca Bianchi
•A typo in my SSN? That would definitely cause problems. Ok I'm convinced, going to try Claimyr tonight.

NebulaKnight
•Yeah these little errors can cause major delays. Good luck getting it resolved!

Just wanted to add that if you do get through to someone, ask them to email you a summary of any issues they find. That way you have documentation of what was wrong and what was fixed.

•Smart idea about getting documentation. Thanks for all the help everyone!
