Yeah just apply online at esd.wa.gov and see what they offer you. The application process itself is pretty straightforward, it's dealing with problems after that gets complicated.
And remember if you hit any snags during the process, that Claimyr service can help you get through to Washington ESD agents who can walk you through whatever issues come up.
I tried calling Washington ESD about this same question last month and got nowhere. Spent 3 hours on hold just to get disconnected. Might have to try that claimyr service people mentioned.
Yeah definitely try it. I was in the same boat with the endless hold times. Claimyr got me through to someone in like 20 minutes.
Just to add - if you do get approved for both programs, you'll probably have to choose one or the other eventually. But in the short term while applications are processing, you might be able to collect UI benefits while waiting for disability decision.
Don't forget about the waiting week! Even after you apply and get approved, there's one week where you file a claim but don't get paid. It's just how the system works - kind of like a deductible.
Make sure all your employer information is accurate when you apply. I put down the wrong address for one of my previous employers and it delayed my whole claim while they tried to verify my wages.
My experience was that being honest and thorough in your initial application really matters. I included details about my medical issues that contributed to my attendance problems, and I think that helped the adjudicator understand the full situation. Don't just put bare minimum information.
Final advice from someone who's been through this twice - stay calm and don't assume the worst. The system is designed to help people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Even if you were technically 'fired,' if it wasn't for serious misconduct, you have a good chance of getting benefits. Just be patient with the process.

For anyone still having trouble getting their 1099-G, I used Claimyr last month to get connected with Washington ESD about my missing tax form. Worked like a charm - got through to an agent within minutes instead of spending hours on hold.

•I might have to try that. I've been trying to get through for my corrected 1099-G and it's been impossible.

•Definitely worth trying. Check out their demo video to see how it works - it's pretty straightforward.

Bottom line: yes you pay federal taxes on unemployment benefits, no you don't pay Washington state taxes on them, and you can have taxes withheld from future payments to avoid a big bill later. Hope this helps!
