ESD says 'Paid' status but no money in account after 9 weeks of adjudication
Finally got my claim out of adjudication after NINE WEEKS and calling the governor's office (was desperate). My ESD account now shows 'paid' status for about $9,240 but there's no money in my bank account yet. I double-checked and I definitely signed up for direct deposit during the initial application. How long does it typically take for the money to actually hit your account after the status changes to 'paid'? Should I be worried the bank might reject such a large deposit? I've never received this much money at once and don't want anything to delay it further after waiting so long. Anyone have experience with this?

The 'paid' status means ESD has processed the payment, but it typically takes 24-48 business hours for the money to actually hit your account after that. Banks don't usually reject deposits just because they're large. I received about $11K after my adjudication finally cleared in February, and it showed up about 36 hours after the status changed to paid. If you don't see it by the third business day, then I'd start making calls.

•Thanks for letting me know! That's a huge relief. I'll give it the 48 hours before I start panicking again. This whole process has me so anxious I can barely sleep.

•11 weeks?! That's even worse than mine. I'm glad you eventually got it. Did you have to contact the governor's office too or did it just randomly clear up?

The ESD system is so frustrating! I was stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks last year, and when it finally switched to 'paid,' the money appeared in my account the next morning. But my roommate had to wait 4 business days for hers. I think it depends on your bank too. Some process ACH transfers faster than others. Just make sure you keep filing your weekly claims while you wait for the money. The system is weird and sometimes puts everything on hold if you miss even one weekly claim, even if they owe you for previous weeks.

•That's good advice about the weekly claims. I've been religious about filing them even when it seemed hopeless. I'll definitely keep doing them while I wait for this to hit my account.

I went through this exact situation in January. Here's what's happening: When ESD shows 'paid,' they've sent the payment instruction to their bank, U.S. Bank. Then U.S. Bank processes an ACH transfer to your bank. This typically takes 1-3 business days depending on when the payment was initiated and your bank's processing schedule. If the payment was marked 'paid' on a Friday afternoon, for example, you might not see it until Tuesday or Wednesday. Also, the first payment after adjudication is often larger than subsequent payments will be, but banks are used to handling unemployment deposits of all sizes. One important note: If there's any issue with your direct deposit information, ESD will default to sending a debit card instead, which takes 7-10 business days to arrive by mail. You can check your payment method on the ESD website under 'Payment Settings.'

•This is super helpful! It changed to 'paid' yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), so hopefully I'll see it by Friday. I'll double-check my payment settings right now to make sure the direct deposit info is correct.

•That's a good point about bank holds. If you have a smaller bank or credit union, or if you don't regularly have direct deposits of similar sizes, they might place a hold. You can actually call your bank proactively and let them know you're expecting an unemployment deposit so they can note your account.

After dealing with endless ESD issues, I found out about Claimyr.com that helps you get through to an actual ESD agent instead of waiting on hold forever. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I used it to track down a payment that was marked 'paid' but hadn't shown up after 4 days. Turns out there was a small issue with my bank routing number that the ESD agent was able to fix immediately. Might be worth keeping in your back pocket if the money doesn't show up in a few days.

•Never heard of that service before but definitely saving that info just in case. After spending hours on hold over the past 2 months, I never want to do that again!

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US SUFFER!! I got the 'paid' status and then had to wait A FULL WEEK before the money showed up. ESD claimed they sent it, my bank said they never received it, and neither would help. I had to file a claim with the state ombudsman to get anyone to investigate. Turns out ESD had mistyped ONE DIGIT in my account number. Double-check EVERYTHING in your ESD profile. They make 'mistakes' all the time and then blame you for it!

•While I understand your frustration, this isn't typical. Most direct deposit issues are resolved within 2-3 business days. If there is a problem with account information, ESD usually defaults to sending a debit card rather than losing the payment entirely. It sounds like you had an unusual case.

•UNUSUAL?? Talk to anyone who's dealt with ESD for more than a month! Their error rate is INSANE. My neighbor had the EXACT SAME THING happen last month. They don't 'default' to cards - they just let payments disappear into the void and hope you don't notice!!

Just wanted to check in - did your payment arrive? It's been a couple days since your post. Hope everything worked out!

•Yes! The money showed up this morning! Exactly 48 hours after the status changed to 'paid.' Thanks everyone for the reassurance and advice. Now I can finally catch up on all my bills.
