ESD payments arriving on Thursday afternoons now instead of Wednesday?
Has anybody else noticed that their unemployment deposits have switched to Thursdays lately? For the first 2 months of my claim, I always got paid Wednesday mornings like clockwork - now suddenly it's showing up Thursday afternoons (like after 2pm). Just wondering if ESD changed something in their processing schedule or if it's just happening to me? I'm not complaining since the money is still coming through, just throws off my bill payment timing a bit. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah, noticed the same thing! Mine was hitting my account Wednesdays around 9am for MONTHS, then suddenly switched to Thursdays about 3 weeks ago. Called ESD about it (took forever to get through) and they said something about a "processing schedule adjustment" but couldn't give specifics. As long as it's consistent I guess it's fine, just wish they'd sent some kind of notification.

This is actually a normal part of ESD's payment schedule. They process claims in batches, and sometimes they adjust which claims are in which batch. The payment system runs Monday-Friday, but which day your payment processes can shift occasionally. The important thing is that your payment is still being issued at all - if you're concerned about a specific payment, you can always check your payment history in eServices to confirm it's been processed. If you need to speak with ESD directly about your payment schedule or any other issues, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). It helped me get through to an actual agent when I had questions about my standby status. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

•Thanks for explaining! I'll check eServices to make sure everything's still processing correctly. Do you know if they ever move back to the original schedule or is this probably permanent now?

•Definitely not my bank - I can see exactly when the deposit hits my account and when ESD initiates it. It's showing as pending from ESD on Weds now instead of Tues, and fully available Thurs instead of Weds. Has nothing to do with my bank's processing.

Just to add a bit more context: ESD processes weekly claims in batches based on various factors including your SSN, claim type, and system load. They periodically rebalance these batches to optimize processing, which can shift your payment day. This is totally normal and happens a couple times a year. The official ESD guidance is that payments can take 2-3 business days after filing your weekly claim to reach your account, though most claims are processed faster. If you file on Sunday (as recommended), your payment could arrive anytime Tuesday-Thursday depending on your batch and your bank's processing time. If the payment consistently arrives on the same day each week (even if that day has changed), there's nothing to worry about. If it's inconsistent or delayed beyond 3 business days, then you might want to investigate further.

•Super helpful, thanks! It's been consistently Thursday the past 3 weeks so sounds like I'm in a new batch now. I'll just adjust my bill payment schedule accordingly.

DONT get me STARTED on ESD payment schedules!!! I've been on UI since January and my payments have jumped around from Tuesday to Thursday back to Wednesday then to FRIDAY one week with NO explanation!!!! EVERY TIME I call they give me a different answer - "system update" "payment processing cycle" "bank delay" - NONE of which explain why they can't just pick a DAY AND STICK WITH IT!!!! How are people supposed to pay bills on time when they keep changing when we get paid????? And don't even try messaging them in eServices because they NEVER respond!!!

This happened to me too but I've had unemployment before and it seems like they do this every few months. I just plan for Friday now even though it usually comes Thursday and that way I'm never disappointed lol. But yeah they really should tell people when they change things.

•That's smart, I'll probably start doing the same thing. Better to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed!

Just a quick update - I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and actually got through to ESD in about 20 minutes (after trying to call for DAYS on my own). The agent confirmed they did a "batch adjustment" in late April that affected payment scheduling for many claimants. She said my claim will stay on the Thursday schedule for the foreseeable future, so at least now I know! The video demo actually shows exactly how it works if anyone else is struggling to reach them: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

•So we're just supposed to PAY MONEY to talk to ESD now??? That's ridiculous! They should do their JOBS and actually answer their phones!!!

•I get your frustration, but after spending hours redialing for 3 days straight and getting nowhere, it was worth it to me. At least now I have actual information instead of just guessing what's happening with my claim.

my cousin works at the bank and he said sometimes the ACH transfers get delayed in the federal reserve system or something like that

•That's not quite accurate in this case. While ACH transfers can occasionally be delayed in the Federal Reserve system, what we're discussing is a systematic change in the ESD payment schedule. You can confirm this by checking your payment status in eServices - the payment initiation date changed, not just the deposit date. Bank delays would be random, not a consistent pattern shift.
