ESD payment showing 'paid' but not deposited on ReliaCard at usual time - different deposit schedules?

Getting a bit worried here. I've been claiming UI benefits for about 3 months now, and my weekly deposits are super consistent - always hitting my ReliaCard between 3:30-4:30am on Wednesday mornings. Today's different though. It's already past 7am, and while the ESD website shows my payment as 'paid' when I logged in, nothing's shown up on my card yet. No pending transaction either. I checked my payment details and everything looks normal - same amount as usual ($618), same processing date. Does anyone know if ESD has different deposit times throughout the day? Or should I be concerned something's wrong with my payment? My rent is due Friday and I'm counting on this money...

Thanks for the reassurance! Getting anxious over here. Did your payment schedule eventually go back to normal or do the times stay unpredictable?

The payment schedule can vary because there are multiple factors involved in the deposit timeline. Once ESD shows 'paid,' the payment has been released from their system, but then it goes through both the ACH (Automated Clearing House) network and your bank's processing system. Typically, most deposits arrive early morning, but system maintenance, high volume processing days, or bank holidays can cause delays. If it's not in your account by tomorrow morning, then I would recommend contacting ESD to check if there might be an issue. But in my experience, as long as it shows 'paid' in the system, you will receive the money - sometimes just later in the day than expected.

Coudl also be the realiacard its self causing problems. Their customer service is HORRIBLE!! they put random holds on my card 2x now with zero explanation!!! had to wait 3 days once to get my money off hold. so annoying!!

I've had my payment come through as late as 5 PM before even though the ESD website showed it as paid in the morning. Seems like ReliaCard processing times aren't super consistent. I wouldn't worry yet, but definitely check back through the day. Question for you - have you set up direct deposit to a regular bank account instead of ReliaCard? I switched to direct deposit to my credit union and it's been WAY more reliable with timing. Just a thought if this keeps happening.

I actually didn't realize I could switch to direct deposit! That might be worth looking into. My regular bank usually processes deposits faster than this ReliaCard. How did you make the switch? Is there a form on the ESD website for it?

Based on my experience working with UI claimants, this is normal. The ESD system marks payments as 'paid' when they've been processed on their end, but there can be a delay of up to 24-48 hours before it actually hits your ReliaCard, especially during high-volume periods. If your payment normally arrives at a consistent time but is delayed today, it could be due to: 1. Bank processing delays at U.S. Bank (who manages ReliaCard) 2. Higher volume of payments being processed this week 3. Technical delays in the ACH transfer system 4. System updates or maintenance at either ESD or U.S. Bank As long as it shows 'paid' in your ESD account, the money has been allocated to you and should arrive. I'd give it until end of day before getting concerned.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. This makes me feel much better. I'll try to be patient and check again this afternoon.

Just to add another data point - my deposits are completely random. Sometimes 3am, sometimes noon, once it even came at like 8pm! The only consistent thing is it always comes same day as the 'paid' status shows up. If it doesn't show up by tomorrow morning, THAT'S when you should start calling ESD.

Speaking of calling ESD... if you do need to reach them (which hopefully you won't!), I'd recommend using Claimyr. Tried calling ESD for THREE DAYS about a similar issue and kept getting disconnected or waiting for hours. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 20 minutes! They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 They basically hold your place in line and call you when they get an agent. Saved me so much stress when I had a payment issue. But like others said, if it shows paid, you should be good by end of day.

does that actually work??? ive literally spent HOURS trying to get through to esd!! its insane how bad their phone system is

Just wanted to check in - did your payment come through yet? Mine this week was later than usual too, wondering if there's something going on with their system.

Yes! It finally hit my ReliaCard around 2:30pm. Such a relief. Seems like they're just being slow today for some reason. Thanks everyone for the reassurance!

Glad to hear your payment came through! For future reference, if you want more consistent deposit timing, you can change from ReliaCard to direct deposit by going to your ESD account, selecting 'Payment Options' under the 'Settings' menu, and entering your bank account information. Most regular banks process ACH transfers more consistently than prepaid cards. Just make sure you keep your ReliaCard active until you confirm your direct deposit is working properly.

Thank you! I'm definitely going to set up direct deposit tonight. I've had a few too many anxiety-inducing moments with this ReliaCard. Appreciate everyone's help!

I've been through this exact same situation multiple times! The anxiety is real when you're counting on that money. What I've learned is that ReliaCard deposits can be anywhere from 3am to 8pm on the same day - it's frustrating but totally normal. I actually started screenshotting the "paid" status on ESD's website whenever I get worried, just for peace of mind. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts through ReliaCard so I get notified immediately when the deposit hits, rather than constantly checking. You can do this through their mobile app or website. Takes away some of the stress of wondering "is it there yet?" Glad you got your payment sorted out! The direct deposit switch is definitely worth it if you want more predictable timing.

That's a great tip about the text alerts! I didn't know ReliaCard had that feature - I've been obsessively checking the app every few minutes whenever I'm worried about deposits. Setting up those notifications would definitely save me from all the stress-checking. Also love the idea of screenshotting the "paid" status - that's such a smart way to have proof if something ever goes wrong. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips!

This thread is so helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now - my payment shows "paid" on ESD but hasn't hit my ReliaCard yet (usually comes around 4am and it's now 10am). Reading everyone's experiences really puts my mind at ease that this is just normal processing delays. @Max Reyes - definitely going to set up those text alerts on ReliaCard today! And the screenshot idea is genius - I'm always paranoid about having proof if something goes wrong with the system. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences. It's so reassuring to know this community exists when you're stressed about payments being late!

Same here! I'm new to UI benefits and this is my second week claiming. My first payment came exactly at 4:15am last Wednesday, so when I woke up this morning and it wasn't there I started panicking. Reading through all these experiences really helps - seems like the timing is just inconsistent but the money always comes through eventually. Definitely going to look into those ReliaCard text alerts too. It's great to find a community where people actually help each other out with these kinds of worries!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been on UI for about 6 weeks now and this is the first time my payment hasn't come through at the usual time (mine typically hits around 5am Wednesday). It's currently 11:30am and while ESD shows "paid," my ReliaCard is still empty. Reading everyone's experiences here is such a relief - I was starting to wonder if something went wrong with my claim. The screenshot idea is brilliant! I just took one of my "paid" status for my records. And I'm definitely setting up those ReliaCard text alerts as soon as I get home. It's amazing how much anxiety these delayed deposits can cause when you're depending on the money for basic expenses. Thanks to everyone who shared their timing experiences - it really helps to know that deposits can come anywhere from early morning to evening and still be completely normal. This community is a lifesaver for newcomers like me who don't know what to expect!

Welcome to the community! I totally understand that anxiety - I'm relatively new to UI benefits too (about 4 months in) and those first few times when payments were delayed had me in a panic. It's such a relief to find other people going through the same thing and sharing their experiences. The uncertainty around timing is definitely one of the most stressful parts of this whole process, especially when you're budgeting down to the day for rent and bills. Glad this thread could help ease some of your worries! The screenshot and text alert tips are game-changers for peace of mind.

Just wanted to add my experience to help others who might be searching for this issue - I've been claiming for about 8 months now and I've noticed that payment timing seems to get more unpredictable during certain times of the month, especially around the 1st and 15th when a lot of people are getting paid from various sources. I think it's related to higher ACH processing volumes across the banking system on those days. My theory is that when everyone's getting direct deposits at the same time (paychecks, social security, UI benefits, etc.), the whole system just gets bogged down. For anyone new to this - I keep a little spreadsheet tracking my deposit times and I've seen everything from 2:47am to 9:23pm, all on the same day that ESD showed "paid." The latest it's ever been for me was about 10:30pm, but it always comes through within 24 hours of the "paid" status appearing. The direct deposit switch really is worth it if these timing variations stress you out. I made the switch about 3 months ago and now my deposits are consistently between 6-7am every Wednesday. Much more predictable than ReliaCard was!

That's such a helpful observation about the timing patterns around the 1st and 15th! I never thought about how other payment cycles might affect UI deposit timing, but that makes total sense - the whole banking system probably gets overwhelmed when everyone's getting paid at once. Your spreadsheet idea is really smart too - I might start tracking my own deposit times to see if I can spot any patterns. It's reassuring to hear from someone who's been doing this for 8 months and confirming that even super late deposits (like 10:30pm!) are still normal. Thanks for sharing your experience - this kind of long-term perspective is exactly what newcomers like me need to hear!

This is such a valuable thread for anyone dealing with UI payment anxiety! I'm about 2 months into claiming and had my first "late" deposit scare last week - mine usually comes around 6am but didn't show up until almost 3pm that day. I was literally refreshing my ReliaCard app every 5 minutes until I found a thread similar to this one. What really helped me was realizing that "paid" status on ESD means the money is definitely coming, it's just a matter of when all the banking systems sync up. I also started checking the ESD website first thing in the morning instead of my card balance - if it says paid, I know I can relax and just wait for the deposit notification. For anyone still waiting on today's payment - hang in there! Based on all these experiences, it sounds like same-day delivery is pretty much guaranteed once you see that "paid" status, even if the timing varies wildly.
