ESD payment delays - normal to wait 2-3 days for anti-fraud + weekend deposits?

Finally got my UI claim approved yesterday after 6 weeks of waiting! The ESD rep mentioned my payments will be held for 2 days for anti-fraud verification before being released, and then it might take another 2-3 business days to hit my account. That seems like a long time for funds I desperately need right now. Can anyone confirm if this 2-day anti-fraud hold is standard procedure in 2025? And realistically, how long did it take to receive your back payments after approval? Also wondering if ESD actually processes/releases payments on weekends? My approval came through on Thursday, so if the 2-day hold ends Saturday, will they release it then or wait until Monday? Does your bank matter? (I'm with BECU if that makes any difference) My rent is already 2 weeks late and I'm trying to give my landlord an accurate timeline. Thanks for any insights!

Yep, the 2-day anti-fraud hold is 100% normal now. After all the fraud during COVID they implemented this for ALL claims. For me, I got approved on a Monday, then the money hit my account Thursday morning. But I bank with Chase - heard credit unions can sometimes take an extra day.

Thanks! Good to know it's standard at least. Did your payment status on eServices change before you got the money, or did it just appear in your account?

congrats on getting approved!!! i was in adjudication for NINE weeks so your 6 weeks is actually pretty fast lol. the 2 day hold is definitely normal, they started that in like 2022 i think? but the weekend thing is tricky... ESD doesnt technically process on weekends from what i can tell. if your 2-day hold ends on sat, probably wont see anything till tuesday honestly

Nine weeks?! That's brutal. Thanks for the reality check on the weekend timing. Guess I'll need to talk to my landlord about waiting until Tuesday.

The anti-fraud hold is standard procedure now and cannot be bypassed. Here's how the timeline typically works in 2025: 1. Approval date: Day 0 2. Anti-fraud hold: Days 1-2 (business days only) 3. Payment processing: Day 3 4. ACH transfer to bank: Days 4-5 Regarding weekends - ESD's system does not process or release payments on weekends. The anti-fraud hold period only counts business days, so if your approval was Thursday, the 2-day hold would be Friday and Monday, with potential release on Tuesday. Different financial institutions handle incoming ACH transfers differently. Credit unions like BECU typically post ACH transfers once per day in the morning, while some larger banks may process them multiple times daily.

Thank you for breaking this down so clearly! This helps me understand exactly what to expect. So essentially I'm looking at next Wednesday at the earliest for the funds to actually be available in my account. Good to know.

I got approved back in January and had the same questions!! The anti-fraud thing is annoying but whatever. What nobody tells you is that they send the oldest weeks first, then each newer week comes like a day later. So if you have 5 weeks of backpay, you'll get deposits 5 days in a row. At least that's how it was for me!

This is partially correct, but has changed recently. As of March 2025, ESD now batches backpay periods, so claimants typically receive a single larger payment rather than multiple sequential payments. This policy was implemented to reduce processing overhead and get funds to claimants more efficiently.

I've helped numerous clients navigate this exact situation. The 2-day anti-fraud hold is non-negotiable and applies to all claims. However, many people don't realize they can track the exact status of their payment through the eServices portal under "Payment History" - it will show when a payment moves from "Processing" to "Paid" which typically happens before it hits your bank. Regarding weekend processing: ESD's system runs Monday-Friday only. Their computer system does not initiate new payment releases on weekends. So if your hold ends on a Saturday (which it sounds like it might), the actual payment won't be initiated until Monday. In my experience, BECU typically posts ESD deposits within 24 hours after ESD releases them, slightly faster than some national banks.

I didn't know about checking the Payment History section! Just looked and mine still says "Processing" for all weeks. I'll keep an eye on that - super helpful tip, thank you.

If you're having trouble reaching ESD on the phone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation last month where my payment status said "paid" but nothing showed up in my account for over a week. Spent hours trying to get through on the ESD line with no luck. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed the issue - turns out there was a payment routing problem they needed to manually override. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - definitely worth it when you've got bills due.

Update: Just checked my eServices account and all my weeks switched from "Processing" to "Paid" today! The payment amounts match what I was expecting. Now just waiting for it to hit my bank account. Will update again when it does for anyone who might find this useful for their own timeline estimates.

Final update: The money hit my BECU account this morning, exactly 6 business days after approval. Timeline breakdown: Thursday: Approval Friday-Monday: Anti-fraud hold (2 business days) Tuesday: Status changed to "Paid" in eServices Wednesday: Nothing Thursday (today): Funds available in my account Thanks everyone for the help! For anyone finding this thread later, just know that "2-3 business days" is definitely the best-case scenario.
