ESD direct deposit setup problems - can't reach anyone by phone

I recently filed for unemployment and chose direct deposit for my benefits, but I'm concerned my bank information wasn't entered correctly. The confirmation screen seemed to glitch when I submitted it. I've been trying to call ESD for 3 days straight to verify my deposit info but can't get through to anyone! The automated system just keeps disconnecting me after 30 minutes on hold. Does anyone have a phone number specifically for direct deposit questions? Or is there a different way to check/update my banking info? I'm really worried my payments will get lost or delayed and I can't afford that right now.

You can actually double-check your direct deposit information right in your eServices account. Log in, go to 'Payment Options' under the UI section, and you should be able to see the last 4 digits of your account number. If it's wrong, you can update it there. No need to call unless you're seeing an error message when trying to update it online.

Thanks! I tried that but when I go to Payment Options, it shows my bank name correctly but then says 'account verification pending' next to it. It's been saying that for over a week now. Does that mean there's a problem?

Oh no! That's exactly what I'm afraid of. Did you eventually get the money or did it get lost somewhere between accounts?

I've been dealing with ESD for years and their direct deposit system is a nightmare! Half the time they claim they never received your banking info even when you entered it correctly. And good luck getting anyone on the phone - the system is DESIGNED to hang up on you. The only way I finally fixed my deposit issues was using Claimyr to get through to an actual agent. I was skeptical but the service at claimyr.com actually worked - they got me a callback from ESD within an hour. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Worth it to get this fixed before your payments start going to the wrong place.

is that service legit? seems weird to pay someone else just to talk to unemployment

The 'account verification pending' status is part of ESD's fraud prevention measures. This typically takes 5-7 business days, but can take up to 10 days during high volume periods. If it's been longer than 10 business days, there might be an issue with your bank verification. The technical support line at 855-682-0785 is sometimes easier to get through on than the main ESD line, and they can transfer you to someone who handles direct deposit issues. Try calling right at 8:00 AM when they open. Also, check if your bank name is exactly correct - even small differences like having "Credit Union" vs "CU" can cause verification delays.

Thank you for explaining! It's been 8 business days so far, so I'll give it a couple more days before panicking. I'll try that number if it doesn't change by Wednesday. Really appreciate the detailed info!

just FYI if ur waiting on direct deposit verification ur first payment might come as a debit card anyway. happened to me and i was so confused lol. check ur mail for a card from KeyBank even if u selected direct deposit

Really? Nobody told me about that! I'll keep an eye on my mail then. Do they notify you if they're sending a card instead?

I had problems with my direct deposit too! But mine was because I accidentally put my savings account number instead of checking. I spent WEEKS trying to fix it myself online. Kept getting error messages. Nothing worked! Finally broke down and called the main ESD number 100 times before getting through. The lady was actually super nice and fixed it in 2 minutes. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person.

100 times?? ain't nobody got time for that

Just to follow up on your situation - when did you initially file your claim? If it was very recent, the system is actually working as designed. The 'verification pending' status is normal protection against fraud. But if it's been more than 10 business days AND you haven't received a KeyBank debit card in the mail (which is ESD's default payment method until direct deposit verifies), then you should definitely contact them. Also, make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even while waiting for payment method verification. Payments will be retroactive once everything is verified.

I filed exactly 12 days ago, so I guess that's 8-9 business days. I have been doing my weekly claims, so that's good to know they'll be retroactive. I'll check my mail more carefully for a KeyBank card - had no idea that might come first. Thanks again for all the help!
