ESD claim stuck in 'waiting on information' status after adjudication - when will I get a decision?

I'm getting really frustrated with how long my unemployment claim is taking. My claim was in 'adjudication in progress' from August 8th until September 14th (over a month!), and now it's changed to 'waiting on information.' I've submitted everything they've asked for and responded to all their questionnaires. I've already waited almost 7 weeks total. Does anyone know how much longer it typically takes once the status changes to 'waiting on information'? I'm getting desperate since rent is due next week and I've gone through most of my savings already.

ugh same thing is happenin to me rn! been in adjudication since mid-july, then switched to 'waiting on information' 3 weeks ago. still nothing. this system is a joke.

That's terrible! Have you tried calling them? I've tried a few times but just get the busy signal or it hangs up after the automated message.

'Waiting on information' usually means one of two things: either they're waiting for information from a third party (like your former employer) or there's something they need from you but haven't clearly communicated. In my experience, the status changing from adjudication to 'waiting on information' is actually progress - it means they've started actively working on your case rather than it sitting in the queue. I'd recommend checking your ESD account for any new questionnaires or document requests, and also check your spam folder for emails from ESD. If you don't see anything, you should try to get through to an agent to ask specifically what information they're waiting on.

Thanks for this explanation. I've checked my spam folder and my ESD account multiple times a day and don't see any pending questionnaires or document requests. I guess they must be waiting on my former employer? But it's been almost 2 months total now...

The previous commenter is spot on. When I worked at ESD, 'waiting on information' typically meant we were waiting for employer response or verification from another agency. The standard processing time once they have all information is 7-10 business days, but during high volume periods it can take up to 3 weeks after receiving all necessary information. One thing I'd suggest: check your ESD notices (not just questionnaires) for any determination letters. Sometimes they make a decision but the main status doesn't update right away.

Have you tried calling them directly? I know it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get through on their regular line, but I used this service called Claimyr last month when my claim was stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks and it actually worked! Their system basically keeps dialing ESD for you and then connects you once they get through. I was skeptical but they got me through to an agent in about 45 minutes when I had been trying for DAYS on my own with no luck. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. It was seriously the only way I could get actual answers about my claim status.

i tried calling like 20 times last week and couldnt get thru. is this claimyr thing legit? seems kinda sketchy that you have to pay just to talk to ESD????

I was skeptical too but it seriously worked for me when nothing else did. The regular ESD phone system is completely overwhelmed. When I finally got through, the agent told me exactly what was holding up my claim (missing employer response) and they were able to push it through.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE ESD SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! They keep us in the dark for MONTHS while bills pile up. When I was on unemployment in 2025, I was in adjudication for NINE WEEKS and then "waiting on information" for another THREE WEEKS before getting approved. No communication, no updates, NOTHING!!! Then they have the NERVE to tell us we need to be actively job searching the whole time with no income!!! The whole system needs to be overhauled!! They're DELIBERATELY making it difficult to collect benefits we PAID INTO with our taxes!!

You're not wrong, but getting angry doesn't help solve the immediate problem. My brother's claim sat in adjudication for weeks until he contacted his state representative's office. They have staff who can sometimes expedite ESD issues. Might be worth trying.

I'd recommend taking these steps: 1. Call ESD directly and ask what specific information they're waiting for - this is crucial because the clock doesn't start until they have everything they need 2. If you can't get through by phone, send a secure message through your eServices account specifically asking what information is needed to process your claim 3. Contact your previous employer to ensure they've responded to ESD's request for information 4. If it's been more than 8 weeks total, you can request an escalation due to financial hardship The 'waiting on information' status means your claim is being actively worked on, which is actually good news. But you need to find out exactly what they're waiting for.

Thank you! I'll try calling again tomorrow and see if I can get through. If not, I'll definitely send that secure message asking specifically what information they need. I appreciate the practical advice.

One important thing to understand about the 'waiting on information' status - it doesn't automatically update even when information is received. I've seen cases where the claim shows that status for days or weeks after all information was actually received, simply because no one updated the status indicator. The only reliable way to know what's actually happening is to speak with an agent directly.

thats so frustrating! why even have the status indicators if they dont update them?? ugh

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD this morning! The agent told me they were waiting for income verification from my previous employer, who apparently never responded to their request from August. The agent said since it's been over 30 days with no employer response, they can process my claim based on the documentation I provided. She said I should see a decision within 5-7 business days! I'm so relieved!!

That's great news! Glad you got some clarity. This is exactly why getting through to an actual person makes all the difference with ESD claims.
