ESD status changed from "waiting for information" to "adjudication in process" - long wait ahead?
Hey everyone, I'm getting nervous about my unemployment claim timeline. I submitted my initial application on October 21st and checked my eServices account a week later to find "waiting for information" listed under pending issues. I immediately uploaded the requested separation documents through the "upload a document" feature. As of November 4th, the status changed from "waiting for information" to "adjudication in process" but nothing else has changed. Is this shift to adjudication a bad sign? Does this mean I'm looking at a much longer wait before I know if I'm approved or denied? I'm getting really anxious about bills piling up while I wait. Anyone have recent experience with how long adjudication is taking these days?

The change from "waiting for information" to "adjudication in process" is actually a good sign! It means they received your documents and now an adjudicator needs to review your case. Unfortunately, adjudication can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks right now. They're still working through a backlog from what I understand. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the adjudication decision.

•Thanks for the info! 3-6 weeks sounds brutal... do you know if they'll backpay me for all those weeks once approved? And yes, I've been filing my weekly claims religiously.

it took them TWO MONTHS to adjudicate my claim last time!!!! The system is completely broken. Nobody answers phones and they expect us to just magically pay our bills while they take their sweet time. I almost lost my apartment waiting.

•That sounds absolutely nightmarish. Were you able to get retroactive payments for all those weeks once it was finally approved? I'm wondering if I should try contacting my state representative about this since the delays seem so extreme.

Just as a heads-up, make absolutely sure you're meeting your 3 job search requirements each week while you wait. I made the mistake of thinking I didn't need to do job searches during adjudication and ended up having weeks denied even after my claim was approved. The adjudication is just checking your separation reason (quit, laid off, fired) to make sure you qualify, but you still have to meet all the other requirements during this waiting period.

•Oh shoot, I didn't realize that! I've been half-heartedly looking but not recording 3 formal activities. Thanks for the warning - I'll start doing this properly immediately!

When mine went to adjudication, I tried calling ESD for weeks with no luck. Finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent and found out there was a missing piece of info they needed but never told me about! The video showing how it works helped (https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3). Got my issue resolved within days after that call. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to understand what's happening with your claim.

@user7 Yes! That's exactly why I used Claimyr - I kept getting the endless hold or disconnected. With Claimyr I actually got through to a rep who could see my file and tell me what was happening. Totally worth it when you're stressing about bills.

•I might try this if I don't see movement in the next week. The stress of not knowing is almost worse than the waiting itself.

The "adjudication in process" status means an ESD employee is reviewing information from both you and your former employer. When I went through this last year, I called the technical support line (not the regular claims line) and they were able to tell me what specific issue was causing the adjudication. In my case, my employer had contested my eligibility, saying I quit when I was actually laid off. Knowing that helped me prepare documentation while I waited.

•That's really helpful! I didn't know the technical support line might have more info. Do you happen to have that number handy? My separation was a bit complicated (reduction in hours that eventually led to a layoff) so I'm worried my employer might have reported something different.

UGH I HATE THAT THEY JUST LEAVE US HANGING!!! Sorry for shouting but this system makes me so angry. They expect us to just wait with no income for weeks??? HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO PAY RENT?!

•I totally hear your frustration. One thing that might help - if your claim is eventually approved, you'll get paid for all the weeks you properly claimed during the waiting period. Small comfort when the bills are due now, but at least it's something to keep in mind.

Quick follow-up about adjudication: if your case is straightforward (like a standard layoff with your employer confirming everything), it might go faster than the 3-6 week estimate. Mine took just 2 weeks in September. But if there's any discrepancy between what you reported and what your employer reported, it definitely takes longer while they investigate.

One thing I learned from my adjudication process - sometimes they need additional information but don't tell you directly. It's worth checking your eServices account every few days and clicking on the "Notices/Letters" section to see if they've posted any requests there. Also check your spam folder for emails from ESD. I almost missed an important questionnaire because it went to spam, which would have delayed my claim even more.

•Thank you! I just checked and there's nothing new in my Notices yet, but I'll keep an eye on it daily. I've also added ESD to my safe senders list in email. Really appreciate all the tips everyone's sharing!
