ESD Adjudication stuck for weeks after traveling - should I call governor's office?

I'm at my wit's end with this ESD situation! Filed my initial claim on August 9th and immediately got flagged with an 'Out of Country' issue. I answered their questions honestly, explaining that I was temporarily out of the country but had work authorization where I was staying. My status changed to 'Adjudication in Progress' on August 21st and it's been stuck there ever since. I returned to Washington in early September (over a month ago now!), and I've been diligently filing my weekly claims with 3+ job search activities each time. But all 5 of my weekly claims are still showing as 'pending' - about to be 6 after this Sunday's filing. The financial strain is really getting to me. I've tried calling but can't get through. Has anyone had success contacting the governor's office to help speed up adjudication? Is that even something people do? At this point I'll try anything because I'm getting desperate for those payments to process. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Calling the governor's office is probably not your best first step. Try these things first: 1) Keep calling ESD directly - early mornings (right when they open) tend to have slightly better luck 2) Send a secure message through your eServices portal specifically asking about the adjudication timeline 3) Contact your state representative or senator (not the governor) - they often have liaisons who can help with ESD issues The "Out of Country" flag automatically triggers adjudication since they need to verify your work authorization and availability for work during that period. Unfortunately, these can take 6-8 weeks to resolve, especially with the current backlog. Being patient is hard when bills are due, but keep filing those weekly claims correctly!

Thank you for the advice! I've tried calling ESD about 20 times this week at different hours with no luck. I'll try right at opening tomorrow. I did send a secure message last week but haven't heard anything back. I didn't know about contacting my state rep - that's a good idea. Do you know how I find out who my representative is?

Oh no, 3 months?? I can't wait that long! Did you try anything else that seemed to help move things along?

if u need to get thru to esd quicker try claimyr.com - it helped me get thru to an agent after weeks of trying. they have a system that waits on hold for u and calls when an agent picks up. saw their video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and it actually worked for me when nothing else did. got my adjudication issue resolved in one call after they connected me

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check out that service. At this point I'm willing to try anything. Did they explain why your claim was stuck or give you an estimate of processing time?

yeah once i got thru the agent was able to see exactly why my claim was stuck (they needed specific documentation they never told me about) and after i emailed it right then while on the phone, they expedited it. worth a shot!

Contact your state legislative representative ASAP. This is exactly what they can help with. Go to leg.wa.gov and enter your address to find your district representatives. Email them with your claim ID number, contact information, and brief explanation of your situation. Their constituent services staff often have direct channels to ESD and can inquire about your case. As for the adjudication itself - the "Out of Country" flag requires them to determine if you were available for work during that period. Do you have documentation showing you were actively seeking work while abroad? That could help your case significantly. Also, make sure you're being 100% accurate with your weekly claims about your availability and job search activities. Keep documenting everything. And no, I wouldn't recommend the governor's office - they'll just refer you back to your district representative.

Thank you for the detailed information! I just found my district rep and will email them today. I do have documentation of job applications I submitted while traveling, so I'll mention that in my email. I'm being completely honest in all my weekly claims.

The governor's office??? LMAO good luck with that!!! ESD is a complete disaster and has been for years. They'll get to you whenever they feel like it. Rules don't apply to them apparently.

While I understand your frustration, this comment isn't particularly helpful to the OP who is genuinely seeking assistance. ESD does have procedures they follow, even if the timeline is frustrating.

Sorry but after waiting 16 WEEKS for my claim last year I'm a little bitter! Just being realistic about what to expect.

Out of Country adjudication typically takes 4-6 weeks from the date it entered that status. Since you're at week 6 now, you might be nearing resolution. A few important points: 1. The key question they're determining is if you were "able and available" for work while traveling. If you weren't physically present to accept work in Washington, they may have concerns. 2. Each week you certify while in adjudication will remain pending until the adjudication is complete. If approved, all those weeks will pay at once. 3. The most effective contact methods in my experience (I help people with ESD issues regularly): - Legislative representatives (as others mentioned) - WorkSource office visit (they sometimes have direct ESD contacts) - Continuing to call ESD (admittedly difficult) I'd recommend against the governor's office route - they don't have a direct line to expedite claims and would just refer you elsewhere.

Thank you for the detailed response! I wasn't aware that WorkSource offices might be able to help - there's one pretty close to me, so I might try stopping by tomorrow. It's reassuring to hear I might be close to resolution if the typical timeframe is 4-6 weeks.

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me last year!!! I was literally just on vacation in Mexico for 2 weeks and they flagged my account and put me in adjudication for like 7 weeks! It was a NIGHTMARE!!! I finally got through on the phone after calling 63 times (not exaggerating) and the agent was able to see that my case just needed a simple review. She escalated it and I got paid for all my weeks 3 days later. So my advice is KEEP CALLING no matter how frustrating.

That's both encouraging and discouraging to hear. I'm glad you eventually got it resolved! Did you try calling at any particular time of day that seemed to work better?

I finally got through on a Tuesday around 2:30pm. I think it's mostly luck honestly. But definitely keep trying!

Just a quick update on my earlier comment - when contacting your state representative, be sure to include: 1. Your full name as it appears in eServices 2. Your claim ID number 3. The date your claim went into adjudication 4. A brief (2-3 sentence) explanation of your situation 5. Permission for them to inquire about your claim on your behalf This helps them take action more quickly. Their staff are used to helping with ESD issues and often have dedicated contacts who can look into your case. Also, while you wait, make sure you're meeting the job search requirements each week and documenting everything properly. If your adjudication resolves favorably, you'll want those weeks to be payable immediately.

Thank you for the additional information! I just sent an email to my representative with all the details you suggested. Fingers crossed this helps move things along. And yes, I'm keeping careful records of all my job search activities each week.
