Direct deposit rejected due to wrong routing number - how long for ESD payment reprocessing?

I just had my ESD claim finally get approved after waiting for almost 5 weeks (ugh, the endless waiting game). My claim status changed to

same thing happened 2 me last summer. takes about 5-7 business days for the bank 2 reject it and then another 2-3 days for ESD to reprocess. super annoying but it'll come thru eventually

Thanks for sharing your experience! 5-7 business days feels like forever when you're waiting on money. Did you have to contact ESD at all or did they just automatically reprocess it once it bounced back?

When I had this situation back in February, I waited 4 days and nothing happened, so I called ESD. After being on hold for literally 3 hours, they told me that the payment would be automatically reprocessed once the incorrect bank rejected it, but that it could take 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS for the whole process!!! That's basically two weeks of waiting! The agent suggested I change my payment method to the ESD debit card for faster processing next time. Honestly the whole system is designed to make us suffer.

7-10 business days is ridiculous!!! I've been in the system for months and everything takes forever. I don't understand why they can't just cancel the first transaction and issue a new one immediately. It's OUR MONEY that we need for survival!

This is a common issue with ESD direct deposits. Here's what's happening behind the scenes:\n\n1. ESD has already initiated the payment to the incorrect account\n2. That bank will reject the deposit since the routing/account combo doesn't match\n3. The funds will return to ESD (typically 3-5 business days)\n4. ESD's system will automatically reprocess using your updated banking info (1-2 additional days)\n\nThe total timeframe is usually 4-7 business days from when the payment shows as \

Thank you for such a detailed explanation! This is really helpful for understanding the process. I'll give it the 7 business days before I panic. The ESD debit card is a good suggestion - I might switch to that for future payments to avoid any more delays.

If you're worried about the timing and need to reach ESD to verify everything is processing correctly, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with a payment issue and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Claimyr got me connected to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nThe agent I spoke with was able to verify that my returned payment was in the system and gave me the exact date it would be reprocessed, which gave me peace of mind.

Has anyone else used this Claimyr thing? I'm desperate to talk to someone at ESD about my adjudication but hesitant to try some random service. Does it actually work?

I used Claimyr last month when my identity verification was stuck. Got through to an actual human at ESD in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for 3 days on my own. They can't solve your problem directly but they get you past the impossible phone tree. Totally worth it for me since I needed to explain my situation to a real person.

Update for anyone who might have this problem in the future: The payment was reprocessed after 6 business days. The incorrect bank rejected it after 4 days, then ESD took 2 more days to send it to my correct account. I did end up calling ESD (waited on hold for about 2 hours) just to make sure everything was on track. The representative confirmed they could see the rejected payment in their system and assured me it would automatically be reprocessed with my updated banking information. So if you're in this situation - be patient but persistent!
