Calling ESD during adjudication - any success stories getting from pending to paid?

I've been stuck in adjudication for about 2 weeks now, and I'm getting really anxious about bills coming up. Has anyone successfully called ESD while their claim was in adjudication and actually gotten results? Like having your status changed from pending to paid in a reasonable timeframe? I know 2 weeks isn't super long in ESD-time (ugh), and probably not enough time to escalate to the governor's office yet, but I'm going crazy watching my bank account shrink. Just wondering if calling them directly is even worth the effort, or if I'm better off just waiting it out? Would love to hear any recent experiences!

I called everyday for a week when I was in adjudication last month. Complete waste of time!!!! They just tell you to wait and that theres nothing they can do until the adjudicator reviews ur case. So frustrating!!!!

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Did they at least give you any idea of how long the wait might be?

I was in adjudication for 3 weeks in January, and calling ESD directly didn't help much with speeding things up. However, what DID help was asking specific questions about my case: 1. Ask if they can see any specific issues flagged on your claim 2. Ask if any documents are missing that you could provide 3. Request to have notes added to your account about your financial hardship The agent I spoke with couldn't change my status, but they did add detailed notes that my rent was due and I was at risk of eviction. My claim was approved 3 days later. Can't say for sure if that was the reason, but it seemed to help.

This is super helpful! I'll definitely try asking those specific questions rather than just asking when it'll be processed. Thank you!

I had a similar experience last fall, but there's one solution most people don't know about. If you're having trouble getting through to ESD, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you skip the phone queue and get connected to an actual ESD agent. I was super skeptical at first, but it worked for me - got through in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get past the busy signals. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 When you do get through, definitely follow the advice above - ask specific questions and have them document your financial hardship in the system.

waiting is part of the process jst be patient. my claim took 4 weeks in adjucation and i got all the backpay at once. they r just checking everything before they pay u out. if u call u will just annoy them tbh

This is terrible advice. There are legitimate reasons claims get stuck in the system. I 'waited patiently' for TWO MONTHS last year only to discover they were missing a form I could have submitted in 5 minutes. Always follow up!

Here's what I learned from my 4-week adjudication odyssey in February: - Regular ESD agents really CAN'T speed up adjudication, that's accurate - BUT they CAN see if there are specific issues that might be quick to resolve - Standard adjudication is taking 3-5 weeks currently for most claims - If you have a true financial emergency (eviction notice, utility shutoff), ask about the hardship escalation process I was able to get mine resolved when an agent noticed my former employer hadn't responded to ESD's inquiry. They sent a second request with a 48-hour deadline, and then approved my claim when they didn't respond again. So while calling won't magically fix everything, it can help identify and resolve specific issues. Two weeks is actually a good time to start checking in - not excessively, but maybe once a week to see if anything obvious is holding things up.

This is encouraging to hear! I'll try calling tomorrow. My main concern is that my former employer might dispute something, so I want to make sure they're not just waiting on some information from me that I don't know about.

ok but has anyone actually tried that claimyr thing the person mentioned? seems sketchy to me... how does it actually work?

It's not sketchy - they basically use a system that continuously redials ESD and then connects you when they get through. Saved me hours of frustration. They don't access your personal information or anything, just connect you to ESD directly.

Quick update on my earlier comment - I've noticed ESD sometimes processes claims in batches. If you filed your initial claim at the end of a week or during a holiday period, it might take a bit longer. Those who file right at the beginning of a business week sometimes get processed faster. Also, while you're waiting, make absolutely sure you're still filing your weekly claims correctly. The biggest mistake I see people make is they stop filing weekly certifications while in adjudication, and then they have to go through an additional process to backdate those claims.

Oh that's a good point about the weekly claims - I have been keeping up with those. I actually filed on a Wednesday, so maybe that's part of why it's taking a bit longer? Fingers crossed it resolves soon.
