Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm going to try calling ESD tomorrow to explain my situation and see if they can give me specific guidance for my case. I'll definitely make sure to report my hours correctly each week once I start working, and I'll keep all documentation about my pay schedule just in case. Really appreciate all the help!
Good plan! One more tip: when you file your weekly claims after starting work, make sure you answer "yes" to the question about whether you worked that week, then accurately report your hours and estimated earnings. If you're eligible for partial benefits, the system will calculate that automatically. And yes, definitely keep copies of everything - offer letter, pay schedule documentation, timesheets, etc. Good luck with the new job!
this happened to my roomate! turned out hed been approved but then they randomly decided to put him in adjudication (whatever that is) but the system still said paid. he had to send in like his ID and social security card and stuff. took forever. but yeah the call thing is impossible, he never got thru.
Adjudication is when they need to review some aspect of your claim manually. It's common for the system to show payments as processed even when they're actually on hold pending adjudication. This is exactly why speaking with an agent is so important - they can see what's actually happening behind the scenes.
UPDATE: Finally got through this morning!!! Called the claims center number that @practical_solution suggested at exactly 7:00am and got the high volume message 6 times in a row, but on the 7th try I actually got placed in a queue! Waited for 47 minutes but finally spoke to a very helpful agent named Marcus. Turns out my payments were on hold because of a "quarterly review" flag that happened automatically due to some previous W2 wages. The ridiculous part is that there was NOTHING in my online account showing this hold - it all looked perfectly normal and said "paid"! Marcus removed the hold and said my payments should arrive within 48 hours. He also said this is a "known issue" with their system right now where holds don't display properly online. So frustrating but at least it's fixed now. Thanks everyone for your help!
I'm going through this exact situation and finally managed to reach an ESD agent yesterday. They told me that any change in your weekly claim answers compared to previous weeks can trigger an automatic review - even saying "no" to looking for work when you previously said "yes" (like if you had interviews one week but not the next). The agent also mentioned their system sometimes flags claims randomly for quality control. Another thing to check: did you work any hours at all during your pending week? Even a single hour can sometimes trigger a review if the system thinks there might be earnings to deduct. Once you get someone on the phone, they should be able to release the pending payment if there's no actual issue with your claim. Good luck!
This is really helpful info, thank you! I didn't work any hours, but I did answer slightly differently on one question about job contacts (I had 4 instead of 3 like the previous week). I wouldn't think that would trigger a review, but maybe their system is just that sensitive? It's crazy how little explanation they provide.
For your specific situation - separation dispute (quit vs. layoff) - you're in the standard adjudication process. This is 100% handled by ESD adjudicators, not the governor's office. The email evidence you mentioned is exactly what the adjudicator needs to see. Call ESD directly and specifically ask for: 1. The status of your adjudication 2. Confirmation that your documentation has been received and added to your file 3. An estimated timeframe for resolution Be persistent but polite. If they try to redirect you again, ask to speak with a supervisor. Document the date/time of every call and the name of who you spoke with.
My neighbor works for the legislative office and they said people often contact their state representatives when ESD issues drag on too long. They can sometimes help speed things up! Maybe try that route instead of the governor's office? Just Google "[your area] state representative" to find their contact info.

Look into a 401k LOAN instead of a withdrawal if your plan allows it. You avoid the tax penalties, and you're basically borrowing from yourself. The interest you pay goes back into your own account. Much better option if you can swing it.

•That's a good idea I hadn't considered. I'll check if my plan allows loans. Would definitely be better than the withdrawal penalties.

Update on your question about weekly claims - if your claim is in adjudication, you should STILL be filing weekly claims every week while you wait. Many people don't realize this. If you haven't been filing, start immediately and try to file for any missed weeks (though there's a limited window for backdating).

•Yes, I've been filing every week religiously, even with no payment coming in. At least I'm doing something right!
