The federal reserve's unemployment target is typically around 4% as part of their dual mandate, but this is completely separate from state unemployment insurance administration. Think of it as macroeconomic policy vs. individual benefit programs - they operate in different spheres even though they both deal with unemployment as a concept.
just throwing this out there but if youre still stuck waiting for washington esd to process your claim, definitely try that claimyr service people mentioned. i was skeptical at first but it beats sitting on hold for hours just to get hung up on
Same boat here. Might give Claimyr a shot if my claim doesn't move by next week.
I used Claimyr when I needed to talk to Washington ESD about a claim issue from the employer side. Way better than trying to get through their regular phone system. The agents they connect you to are the same ones you'd reach calling directly, just without the 3-hour wait times.
Bottom line - being fired doesn't automatically disqualify someone from unemployment in Washington. It depends on the specific circumstances and whether Washington ESD determines it was misconduct. Your documentation will be crucial if they investigate.
This thread has been really helpful. I had no idea the employer side was this involved. Makes me understand why some companies are so paranoid about firing people.
Thanks everyone for all the explanations! This has been way more helpful than anything I found on the Washington ESD website. Sounds like I need to get organized with documentation and maybe find a good accountant who understands employment taxes.
Good plan. And don't hesitate to contest charges if you think they're wrong. The system isn't perfect.
And remember Claimyr if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. Sometimes you just need a real person to explain things.
For future reference, if anyone needs to actually speak with a Washington ESD representative about PFML or any other benefits, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but when you're stuck and need answers, it's worth having options.
This has been such a helpful thread! I'm saving this for when my sister goes on maternity leave next year. Had no idea about the difference between UI and PFML.

Just remember that partial unemployment also counts toward your weeks. If you work part-time and still collect some benefits, those weeks still count against your 26 week maximum.

•Good point! I did have a couple weeks where I worked part-time. So those count as full weeks used?

•Yes, any week you receive even $1 in unemployment benefits counts as a week used toward your maximum.

The bottom line is check your specific monetary determination for your exact situation. The general rule is 26 weeks maximum, but your individual circumstances determine how many weeks you actually get and how much your weekly benefit is.

•Good plan! And don't hesitate to contact Washington ESD if you need clarification on anything in that document.

•Or use that Claimyr service if you can't get through the regular way. Seems like several people here had success with it.
