Been getting unemployment for 8 weeks now and I can tell you the calculation was exactly what someone earlier said - highest quarter divided by 26. Mine came out to $684 per week which is way more than I expected based on my annual salary.
Thanks everyone for all the help! I think I have a much better understanding now. Going to gather my wage info and file this week. Really appreciate all the detailed explanations and tips about getting through to Washington ESD if I need help.
Good luck with your claim! Feel free to post back here if you run into any issues during the application process.
Definitely keep that Claimyr option in mind if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD. Their phone system is notorious for being impossible to get through otherwise.
My appeal took exactly 7 weeks from hearing to decision letter. Got approved and received about $4,200 in back pay. The wait was worth it but definitely nerve-wracking.
I used Claimyr twice when I had issues with my claim and it worked great both times. Really worth it if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD but can't get through normally. The waiting and busy signals are ridiculous.
The most important thing is don't overthink it. File your final claim honestly, report your return to work, and let the system do its job. Washington ESD's automated processes work pretty well for straightforward situations like this.
i'm on week 23 right now and starting to panic about what happens next. job market is brutal in my field (hospitality). anyone know if there are any programs to help with the transition when benefits end?
WorkSource has some programs for people nearing the end of their benefits. Also look into job training programs - some offer stipends while you're learning new skills.
Something to keep in mind - if you work and earn wages during a week, it might not count as one of your 26 weeks if you earn over a certain amount. Washington has partial benefit payments, so you could potentially stretch your benefits longer if you find part-time work.
How does that calculation work? I might have a chance at some freelance work but don't want to mess up my benefits.

Just to add one more thing - if you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD for questions about your claim, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier is actually really helpful. I was stuck for weeks trying to get through about an adjudication issue and they got me connected to an agent the same day I used their service. Saved me so much frustration.

•Same here! Used Claimyr when my benefits suddenly stopped and I couldn't figure out why. The agent they connected me with fixed the issue in 10 minutes.

•Good to know there are options if I run into problems. Hopefully my claim will be straightforward but it's reassuring to know help is available.

To summarize for the OP: unemployment pay is temporary financial assistance for people who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. In Washington, you can get 50% of your previous weekly wages (between $295-$999 per week) for up to 26 weeks. You don't pay it back, but it is taxable income. You have to actively search for work and file weekly claims to keep receiving benefits.

•Good luck! The system can be confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
