This whole thread has been really helpful. I had no idea about most of this tax stuff when I filed for unemployment. Really wish Washington ESD was more upfront about the tax implications.
Final thought - if you're doing your own taxes, make sure whatever software you use can handle unemployment income properly. Some of the free basic versions don't include all the forms you might need.
One more thing - if you get any part-time work while on unemployment, you need to report it when you file your weekly claim. They'll reduce your benefits based on what you earn, but you can usually still get partial benefits if you're working less than full-time.
Looks like you got a lot of good info here! The benefit amount calculation can seem confusing at first but once you understand the basics it makes sense. Your $22/hr wage should get you a decent weekly benefit to help bridge the gap while you're job hunting. Just stay on top of your weekly claims and job search requirements.
Does anyone know if the payment day changes if you have to appeal something? I'm dealing with a disqualification notice and wondering if that affects the timing.
Bottom line for OP: File your weekly claim by Sunday, payment processes Tuesday night, money in your account Wednesday morning (or Tuesday night with some banks). If you're not seeing that pattern, there's probably an issue with your claim that needs to be resolved.
If anyone needs to reach Washington ESD urgently, I had success with Claimyr too. They got me through to an agent who was able to explain exactly what was holding up my claim. Worth trying if you're stuck.

The key thing to remember is that Washington ESD is required to pay you within a certain timeframe once your claim is approved. If there are unreasonable delays, you can file a complaint, but most issues resolve within 4-6 weeks max.

•Good to know there are escalation options if needed. Hopefully it won't come to that.

•What's considered an unreasonable delay? I feel like 6 weeks is already too long when people need money for basic expenses.

Final update: Got my first payment today, exactly 3 weeks and 2 days after filing! It included payment for all three weeks I had filed claims for. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!

•Great news! That's actually a pretty typical timeline for a straightforward claim.
