Last thing - don't be surprised if your claim goes into 'adjudication' status. It seems like half of all claims get flagged for additional review these days, even when there's no real issue. Just be patient and provide any documents they request quickly.
It varies widely - anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on the issue and Washington ESD's workload. The key is to respond to any requests for information immediately.
And if you get stuck in adjudication limbo, that's when services like Claimyr can really help you get through to someone who can move your claim along.
Just wanted to add that if you have any issues reaching Washington ESD after filing, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. Used it last month when my claim got stuck in adjudication.
Perfect timing on this thread - I just got laid off yesterday and was wondering the same thing. Filing my claim now too!
I just want to say that this whole process is so stressful. Having to prove you deserve benefits that you paid into for years is ridiculous.
For the original poster - since you have the layoff notice, your case sounds pretty straightforward. Just clearly explain that you were laid off due to company downsizing, not a voluntary quit, and include the documentation. You should be fine.
my cousin uses some service called claimyr or something to call washington esd for her, she says it actually works to get through to someone
Bottom line: 2-3 business days after certification is normal for Washington ESD. Anything longer than that and you should investigate. The exact day can vary but it shouldn't be wildly unpredictable.

Keep us updated on how it goes! This is such a common situation but there's not enough good information out there about how to handle the transition properly.

Remember that this decision affects not just your immediate benefits but also future benefit calculations. SSDI payments are based on your lifetime earnings, so timing can matter for your long-term financial security.

•I hadn't thought about how it affects future calculations. I should probably talk to Social Security about that too.

•Definitely. They can give you an estimate of what your SSDI payments would be based on your current earnings record.
