Based on everyone's responses, it sounds like the sweet spot is somewhere between doing the bare minimum and what you're doing now. Maybe aim for 3-4 hours of quality job searching per day instead of 6-8?
One last thing - if you do need to call Washington ESD about anything, definitely try that Claimyr service people mentioned. I used it last week and actually got through to someone in like 10 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours.
If you're really worried about the amount, you can always try to get a part-time job while collecting benefits. Washington allows you to work and still receive partial unemployment as long as you report your earnings.
Bottom line - file your claim ASAP and don't stress too much about the exact amount until you get your determination letter. Washington ESD will calculate it for you and send you a detailed breakdown.
Bottom line - 8 months of full time work should easily qualify you for unemployment benefits in Washington. The base period covers multiple quarters so employment gaps aren't an issue. Just file as soon as you can!
Bottom line: 2-4 weeks is normal for approval, make sure you're filing weekly claims, and don't stress too much if you're still within that timeframe. The system works, it just takes time.
Update: I went ahead and filed my weekly claims for the past two weeks. The system let me backdate them without any issues. Thanks everyone for the advice - I'll stop checking my account obsessively now and just wait for the determination letter!
You should be all set now. Keep filing those weekly claims and your approval should come through soon.
Sounds like you're on the right track! Remember that Claimyr option is there if you need to speak with someone directly about your claim.

For what it's worth, I think Washington state has pretty decent unemployment benefits compared to other states. My brother lives in Florida and his maximum weekly benefit is only like $275.

•That's really low! I'm grateful to be in Washington then.

•Yeah, we're lucky here. The benefits are reasonable and the maximum amount is pretty high compared to most states.

Just remember that you have to file your weekly claim every week to keep getting benefits, even if you haven't received your first payment yet. Don't wait until you get paid to start filing weekly claims.

•Good reminder. I'll make sure to file every week once I submit my initial claim.

•Yeah, people sometimes think they don't need to file weekly claims until they get approved, but that's not true. You need to file every week you want to claim benefits for.
