I used claimyr to finally reach someone at Washington ESD about my appeal timeline and it was so worth it. Spent months trying to get through on my own and they connected me in like 10 minutes.
Way less than I expected and definitely worth it compared to the time I was wasting. Check out their site at claimyr.com - they explain how it works.
Just be honest and straightforward. Don't try to oversell your case or exaggerate - the judge will see through that. Stick to the facts and let your documentation do the talking.
Update on my situation - I finally got through to someone at Washington ESD using that Claimyr service. Turns out my claim was approved but there was a delay in the system updating. Sometimes you really do need to talk to a person to get the real status.
Remember that while you're waiting for your claim decision, you should still be actively job searching and keeping track of your activities. Washington requires documentation of your job search efforts.
The waiting period is just one of many Washington ESD policies that seem designed to discourage people from filing. Between that and the job search requirements, it's like they don't want to pay out benefits.
Bottom line for the original poster - yes, there's a one-week waiting period where you file but don't get paid. It doesn't count against your total benefit weeks. You still need to file for that week and meet all requirements. After that, if everything else is in order, you should start receiving payments.
This whole system is so confusing. Why can't they just send you a letter explaining when you can file again instead of making everyone guess?
Thanks everyone for all the helpful responses! I'm feeling much more confident about filing my new claim now. Going to do it online this weekend and hopefully avoid the phone system entirely.

The automated system is pretty useless too. Half the time it just tells you to go online, but online doesn't help when you need to actually talk to someone about a specific problem.

•So true. The automated options never seem to match the actual issue you're having.

•Exactly! It's like they designed it to discourage people from actually reaching a human agent.

Just to summarize for anyone still reading - the main Washington ESD number is 833-572-8400. Expect long waits or busy signals. Alternative approaches include calling at off-peak times, trying the employer services line first, or using a service like Claimyr to handle the calling for you.

•Thanks for the summary! This thread has been really helpful. I'm going to try a few of these suggestions.

•Good luck! Hopefully one of these approaches works better for you than just calling the main number over and over.
