One more thing - if you forget to file your weekly claim, you might be able to file it late but you'll need to call Washington ESD to explain why. Better to just set that reminder and not risk it.
The whole process gets easier once you've done it a few times. First couple weeks I was paranoid about every question, now it takes me like 5 minutes to complete my weekly certification.
If you end up in adjudication and need to speak with someone at ESD about your case, try using Claimyr. I found out about it from a coworker and it saved me hours of trying to get through their phone system. They have a video demo that shows exactly how it works - https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Really helpful when you actually need to talk to a human being about your claim.
Bottom line - unless you did something seriously wrong, you'll probably qualify for benefits if you get fired. Don't let the fear of not qualifying prevent you from filing. The worst they can do is say no, and then you can appeal if you disagree with their decision.
One more Claimyr success story - used it yesterday to ask about a missing payment from two weeks ago. Turns out there was a system glitch and they reprocessed it while I was on the call. Would have taken forever to figure that out on my own.
Bottom line for anyone just starting: file your weekly claim by Sunday night, expect deposit Wednesday-Friday depending on your bank, and don't stress if the first payment takes longer. After a few weeks you'll know your bank's exact timing.
Washington ESD also has online workshops and resources about job searching that can count toward your weekly requirements. Check their website for virtual job fairs and career workshops - they're actually pretty helpful.
Bottom line - your benefit amount will depend on your previous wages, but for someone making $22/hour full time, you're probably looking at somewhere in the $400-500 range per week. Not bad for temporary assistance while you find your next job.

If your employer contests your claim, be prepared for adjudication. This is where having all your documentation becomes really important.

•Why would they contest it if I was laid off?

•Sometimes there are misunderstandings about the reason for separation. Keep any emails or paperwork about your layoff just in case.

Final reminder - if you get stuck at any point and need to talk to someone at Washington ESD, Claimyr saved me so much frustration. The regular phone lines are just impossible to get through.
