One thing nobody mentioned - if you get approved for UI, you'll need to report any severance pay or vacation payout you receive. That can affect your benefit timing. Just something to keep in mind.
Bottom line - file your claim as soon as you're terminated, be completely honest about what happened, keep all your documentation, and don't panic if it goes to adjudication. Most non-misconduct cases get approved eventually, it just takes time.
Will do! Going to try calling through that Claimyr service right now.
UPDATE: Used Claimyr and got through to Washington ESD in about 10 minutes! Agent found my payment was held up in their verification system even though nothing showed in my account. She released it and said I should have the money by tomorrow morning. Thanks everyone for the help, especially those who mentioned Claimyr!
The whole process is actually pretty simple once you get started. File your initial claim online, wait for approval, then file weekly claims every week while looking for work. The hardest part is usually just the waiting and dealing with any issues that come up.
Last bit of advice - keep copies of everything! Screenshot your weekly claims before submitting, save confirmation numbers, and document all your job search activities. If there are ever any issues, having good records will save you a lot of headaches.
The real key is making sure you file your weekly claims consistently and meet all the job search requirements. Miss a week or mess up the requirements and you can lose benefits entirely.

does anyone know if the child tax credit or other credits help offset the taxes owed on unemployment? trying to figure out how much i might actually owe

•Yes, all your normal tax credits and deductions still apply. The unemployment income just gets added to your other income to determine your total tax liability.

Final update: talked to a tax preparer and based on my income level, I'll owe about $1,200 in additional federal taxes on my unemployment benefits. Not great but manageable. Definitely going to elect tax withholding if I ever need to file for UI again.

•At least now you know for the future. And if you need to contact Washington ESD about withholding or other issues, remember that Claimyr option - saves a lot of headache trying to get through their phone system.
