SSA Benefits Delay: Filed in June, Last Doc in Oct, Still No Word. When to Expect Benefits?
Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with the SSA. We filed for my spouse back in June, submitted the last required document in October, and still haven't heard anything. It's been months! Anyone know how long it typically takes to start receiving benefits after everything's been submitted? This waiting game is driving me crazy.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I've been waiting for 8 months now. It's like they're purposely trying to make us lose our minds. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes that can help speed things up.

I've tried calling so many times, but I can never get through. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever. Any tips for actually reaching a human?

Pro tip: call right when they open. I managed to get through after only 30 minutes on hold that way. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this? I'm skeptical about paying for something like that.

I get the skepticism, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. The $20 was worth it to finally get some answers.

How long did you have to wait before they connected you? And did you actually get useful info from the agent?

It took about an hour, but I didn't have to actively wait on hold. The agent was helpful and gave me a real update on my case. Definitely better than my previous attempts!

Here's what I know about SSA processing times: ā¢ Initial applications typically take 3-5 months ā¢ If additional info is needed, it can add 1-2 months ā¢ Complex cases might take up to a year ā¢ COVID has caused major backlogs Unfortunately, your case seems to be taking longer than average. Some things you can try: 1. Contact your local SSA office directly 2. Reach out to your congressperson's office for help 3. Check if you qualify for dire need processing 4. Keep detailed records of all communications Hang in there! The system is frustrating, but persistence usually pays off.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! I had no idea about the dire need processing or contacting my congressperson. I'll definitely look into those options.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there before sending out notices. Might be worth a look if you haven't already.

I'm in the same boat, filed in May and still waiting. Its so frustrating! I've heard that sometimes they backdate the payments once approved, but idk if thats true for everyone.

Yes, they usually do backdate to the original filing date or date of eligibility, whichever is later. At least there's that silver lining! š°

Oh thank goodness! That's a relief to hear. Hopefully we'll both get some good news soon š¤

PSA: If anyone's having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling your local office instead of the main number. Sometimes they're easier to reach and can still help with your case.

Ugh, the SSA is such a mess rn. I've been waiting 9 months and counting. Starting to think I'll be eligible for retirement benefits before I get my disability approved šš
