TWC requesting additional info after first DUA payment - phone claim confusion
So I'm in a weird situation with my TWC claim. I initially filed online and got my first payment (self-employed/DUA claim) without any issues. But when I tried to request my second payment, I had to do it by phone instead of online for some reason. Now the system is telling me they need 'additional information' and I have to call them back. Anyone know what this might be about? I'm freaking out because I really need this money and can't afford any delays. Do they typically ask for more documentation for self-employed claims after the first payment? I've been trying to call the main number but it's constantly busy. Is there a specific department I should be trying to reach for DUA claims?

This happened to me last year. When you switch from online to phone requests (or vice versa), it sometimes triggers their system to require verification. They probably need additional income documentation since you're on DUA. Self-employed claims get more scrutiny because they want to verify your income hasn't changed. Have you uploaded your 1099s and business tax documents to your account portal? If not, do that ASAP before trying to call.

•Thanks for the info! I did upload my 1099s and tax stuff when I first applied, but maybe they need updated info? Do you remember how long it took them to process after you called in?

•Just checked and there's nothing new in my inbox. Did you have to call a specific number to get this resolved?

THE TWC SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!! I swear they do this ON PURPOSE to make people give up. When I was on DUA they kept asking for the same documents over and over again. And good luck getting through on the phone - I spent WEEKS trying to reach someone. This is how they save money - make the process so frustrating that people just quit trying. You'll probably need to send in MORE proof of your self-employment even though you already did it once. Keep ALL your emails and documents so you can prove what you've already submitted!!!

•That's exactly what I'm worried about! I can't afford to wait weeks. Did you eventually get your issue resolved?

When a DUA claim switches from online to phone processing, it frequently triggers an additional verification protocol. This is actually normal, though frustrating. TWC requires quarterly income verification for self-employed individuals, and the system sometimes flags accounts during payment method changes. You need to call the DUA-specific line at 800-939-6631 rather than the general TWC number. They'll likely ask you to verify: 1. Your identity again (even though you've done ID.me) 2. Updated income documentation 3. Work search activities (DUA requires 3 per week) Make sure you have your claim ID number ready when you call. The hold times are currently running 2-3 hours during mornings, so be prepared to wait.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I tried calling that number but still got the busy signal after multiple attempts. Is there a particular time of day that's better to call?

I had something like this happen in January. For me, it was because my work search logs didn't match up with what they were expecting for a self-employed person. They wanted me to show how I was trying to get my business back up and running, not just regular job applications. Might be worth checking if that's your issue too?

•this happened to my cousin too! twc is weird about what counts for "work search" for self employed ppl. like applying to regular jobs doesnt always count the same way

I went through this exact issue last month. After trying to reach TWC for almost a week with no luck, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. It was the only way I could actually talk to someone without spending days hitting redial. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh Turns out they needed me to verify some information about my self-employment that wasn't clear from my initial application. Got it resolved in one call once I actually reached someone. For DUA claims specifically, they often need to verify consistency between your payment requests and your initial application info.

•I've never heard of that service before. Did it actually work to get you through to a real person? I'm desperate at this point.

•Yes, it worked for me. I got through to an actual TWC agent who handled my DUA issue that same day. Much better than the constant busy signals I was getting for days. Just make sure you have all your documentation ready when you talk to them.

hey did u check if ur supposed to be applying for regular UI instead of DUA? sometimes the system gets confused about which program ur supposed to be on

•This is an important point. DUA (Disaster Unemployment Assistance) is not typically used for regular self-employed claims in 2025. Most self-employed individuals should be applying for regular UI with the self-employment option, not DUA. DUA is only active for specific federally-declared disasters. OP should verify which program they're actually enrolled in, as this could be causing the confusion in the system.

To follow up on what you asked earlier about timing - for me, once I actually got through to someone, it took about 3 business days for them to process the additional information and release my payment. The biggest obstacle was actually reaching a person. Try calling right when they open at 7:00 AM or during lunch hours when call volume sometimes dips.

•That's helpful to know. I'll try the early morning strategy tomorrow. 3 days isn't too bad if I can actually talk to someone!

Update: I finally got through this morning! Called right at 7:00 AM like someone suggested. Turns out they needed me to verify some inconsistency between my first payment request (online) and second one (phone). The agent said sometimes the system flags accounts when you switch methods. She also mentioned that they're phasing out the old DUA program and transitioning self-employed people to regular UI with the self-employment option, which might have triggered the additional verification. All sorted now! Thanks everyone for your help.

•That's great news! Yes, the program transition has been causing confusion for many self-employed claimants. For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, make sure you're enrolled in the correct program for 2025. The TWC website has a verification tool under the "Claim Type" section where you can confirm which program you should be using.
