PA UC system error forced me to refile after New Year - anyone else?
Has the PA UC system gone haywire for anyone else after the New Year? I've been steadily filing my weekly claims since October 2024 with no issues whatsoever. Then yesterday (Jan 1, 2025) when I logged in to file my weekly certification, the system suddenly claimed I had 'indicated separation from my employer' (which I absolutely DID NOT) and forced me to completely refile a new claim! Now it's saying I can't file my weekly until the 8th?? My rent is due on the 5th and I'm panicking. I've called the UC service center literally 47 times today - busy signals or immediate disconnects every single time. Is this some kind of New Year's system glitch? Has anyone experienced this and know if my payments will be delayed? Really stressing out here.

This exact thing happened to me last year right after New Year's. It's a glitch in their system that happens when the calendar year changes but you're in the middle of your benefit year. What likely triggered it was answering one of the questions slightly differently than you did before (even if both answers were correct). You'll need to wait until your refile is processed, which typically takes 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately there's not much you can do to speed it up except keep trying to reach someone by phone to flag it for priority processing.

•2-3 WEEKS?! I can't wait that long! My landlord doesn't accept "PA UC glitches" as a reason for late rent. Is there ANY way to get through to a person faster?

•That's not accurate. The system doesn't intentionally create issues to delay payments. The New Year sometimes triggers issues because the calendar year changes while benefit years may span different periods. It's a technical limitation rather than an intentional delay tactic.

I've had success using Claimyr to get through to PA unemployment when I couldn't reach them for weeks. It got me connected to an actual agent in about 20 minutes when I was dealing with a similar issue. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 or go to claimyr.com. Saved me from a major financial disaster when my claim had an 'open issue' that needed to be cleared up right away. Worth it to get this fixed before your landlord starts charging late fees.

•I've never heard of this before. Is it legit? Has anyone else used it? I'm desperate at this point but wary of scams.

I used it last month when I got stuck in ID verification hell. It worked - got me through to an actual person who fixed my claim on the spot. Beats calling 100 times a day for two weeks straight like I did before finding it.

•Did you get it resolved yet? If not, make sure you answer all questions on the refile EXACTLY as you did on your original claim, otherwise it could trigger additional review.

Just to add to all this, I'm pretty sure the system does this because of some end-of-year accounting thing. I've been on UC three times in the past 5 years and every time there's been some kind of weird glitch. One time I got double paid (had to pay it back later), one time it skipped a week entirely, and this year I had the same refile issue. Btw have you tried the chat function on the website? Sometimes that works when phones don't.

•I tried the chat function but after waiting in queue for 45 minutes it disconnected me right when I was supposed to be connected to an agent. I'll try that Claimyr service tomorrow if I still can't get through. Thanks everyone for confirming I'm not going crazy - at least it seems like this is a known issue.

PA UC claims specialist here. This is what's happening: When the calendar year changes, the system sometimes incorrectly flags continuous claims as having a separation even when nothing has changed. This is because the weekly certification questions include asking about work and earnings "for the week," and the system can misinterpret responses when the year changes. Here's what you need to do: 1. Complete the refile as requested (answer consistently with your original claim) 2. Contact a PA UC representative to explain the situation 3. Request they flag your claim for expedited processing due to the system error 4. Ask them to document that this was a system-generated refile, not due to new separation With proper documentation, this can be resolved in 3-5 business days rather than 2-3 weeks. Your previous payment history will help demonstrate this was a continuing claim erroneously flagged.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I'll definitely request expedited processing. Actually tried that Claimyr service this morning and got through to someone who put a note on my claim. They said I should see my benefits resume within 4-5 days and that I won't need to refile again next week. Fingers crossed!

Glad to hear it! For anyone else experiencing this issue, make sure to document everything. Write down who you spoke with, what time, and what they told you. Sometimes you need to follow up multiple times. What specifically triggered the system error was likely answering the "did you work during this week?" question - the system treats the year change as a potential employment change.
