PA UC injury questionnaire completed 37 weeks ago - still no determination?

I'm at my wits end with the PA unemployment system! Back in July 2025, I submitted an injury questionnaire they requested along with all the medical documentation they asked for (doctor's notes, treatment plan, everything). It's now been 37 WEEKS with absolutely no update on my claim status. The system still shows 'pending' when I check online. I called at least 30 times but either get disconnected or can't get through. Is this questionnaire part of determining my eligibility? Has anyone else experienced this ridiculous wait time for an injury-related claim? How much longer am I supposed to survive without income? I've depleted my savings and am about to lose my apartment.

Yes, that questionnaire is definitely part of their eligibility determination process for injury-related claims. They use it to decide if your situation falls under regular UC eligibility guidelines or if you need to be directed to a different program. Unfortunately, PA UC is notorious for these delays, though 37 weeks is extreme even by their standards. Have you tried contacting your state representative's office? They often have liaison channels to expedite claims that have been stuck this long.

Thanks for confirming. I haven't tried contacting my state rep yet - didn't even think of that! Do I just call their local office and explain my situation? Will try anything at this point.

I've sent at least 15 messages through the portal over the past few months. Got the same automated response every time saying they're experiencing high volume and to please be patient. It's like shouting into a void.

I went through something similar with an injury claim back in December. The questionnaire is their way of determining if you qualify under regular UC or if your case should be handled through workers' comp or disability instead. My wait was about 14 weeks which was bad enough, but 37 is completely unacceptable. Have you tried using Claimyr? It's the only way I finally got through to a human at PA UC. Their service connects you with an actual agent without dealing with busy signals. I watched their video demo (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) and was skeptical but it actually worked. Once I got through to someone, my claim was resolved within a week. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

I've heard mixed things about services like that. Did it actually work for you or are you just advertising?

It genuinely worked for me after weeks of getting nowhere. I was desperate and willing to try anything. The service just helped me bypass the phone system issues to get connected with a real agent. After that, the UC rep handled everything - I just needed to actually reach someone who could look at my file.

Unfortunately, there are systemic backlogs with injury-related cases because they require manual review to determine program eligibility. The system needs to determine if your case falls under regular UC, workers' comp, or disability programs. This cross-program verification is what often causes these delays. Your best options at this point: 1. Contact your state representative (as suggested above) 2. File a formal complaint with the PA Department of Labor & Industry 3. Request an "escalation due to financial hardship" - specifically use this language when you communicate with them 4. If possible, visit a PA CareerLink office in person with your claim documentation Also, verify that your dashboard doesn't show any pending actions needed from you - sometimes there are additional document requests that don't generate notifications.

Thank you for these detailed suggestions. I'll definitely try the escalation due to financial hardship route - that's exactly what I'm facing. I checked my dashboard again and there are no pending actions showing on my end. I'll also visit the CareerLink office tomorrow to see if they can help. Really appreciate the advice!

I'm in the exact same situation right now but only been waiting for 9 weeks. Reading your post has me terrified that I could be waiting for months more. This is absolutely unacceptable. I have kids to feed and bills to pay. Has anyone successfully sued the state for these delays? There must be some legal requirement for how long they can leave us hanging without income.

There are some legal aid organizations that specialize in unemployment issues. Try contacting Community Legal Services if you're in Philadelphia area or Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network for other regions. They sometimes take cases like this, especially if you're facing eviction or utility shutoffs as a result.

Quick update on information about injury-related claims: As of March 2025, PA UC implemented new processing procedures for injury questionnaires. Claims with injuries that occurred at work are supposed to be reviewed within 10 business days and then either processed for UC benefits or transferred to workers' compensation. Non-work injuries should be evaluated within 15 business days. The fact that you've been waiting 37 weeks indicates something went seriously wrong with your claim processing. It's very likely your claim got stuck in the system without being assigned to an examiner or was assigned but never reviewed. When you contact them (through any of the methods suggested), specifically ask for a "claim review escalation due to processing timeout" - this is their internal terminology that might help get better results.

This is incredibly helpful! I'll use that exact terminology when I contact them again. I had no idea there were specific timeframes for review - this definitely seems like my claim fell through the cracks somewhere. I'll update here if I make any progress.

Just checking in - any updates on your situation? Were you able to get through to anyone using the suggestions here?

I actually have an update! I used Claimyr to get through to someone yesterday (after failing with regular phone calls again). The agent I spoke with found my claim and said it had been misclassified in their system, which is why it sat untouched for so long. She reclassified it and escalated it for immediate review. She said I should hear something within 5-7 business days. I'm cautiously optimistic but at least it's movement after 37 weeks of nothing! I'll update again when I hear more.

That's great news! Misclassification happens more often than they'd like to admit. Make sure to follow up if you don't hear anything within that timeframe. Also, you should be eligible for back payments for all those weeks if your claim is approved. Make sure they specifically address that when they process your claim.

Thank you! Yes, the agent mentioned I'd be eligible for all back payments if approved. She actually seemed shocked that my claim had been sitting for 37 weeks. I'm going to be watching my dashboard like a hawk for the next week. Fingers crossed!
