PA UC hearing wait times in Feltonville - anyone know current timeline for phone hearings?

I got a notice of determination that I disagree with on my PA unemployment claim, so I filed an appeal last week. I'm in the Feltonville area and requested a phone hearing since I don't have reliable transportation right now. Has anyone gone through the appeals process recently who can tell me what kind of wait I'm looking at? My situation is pretty straightforward - no employer contesting anything (I was laid off after my contract ended, but there was a miscommunication about my last day that caused problems). I'm stressing about finances and trying to figure out if I should be planning for 2 weeks or 2 months without benefits while this gets resolved. Anyone have recent experience with PA UC hearings in this area?

6 weeks?! Ugh, that's longer than I was hoping. Did you get any benefits during that waiting period or were they completely stopped until after the hearing?

The wait times vary by service center and current backlog. For Feltonville specifically, I went through an appeal in January 2025 and it took exactly 4 weeks to get my hearing scheduled. Phone hearings sometimes move a bit faster than in-person. One thing to note - if your determination includes a fault overpayment or willful misconduct disqualification, benefits will remain suspended until the referee decision. If it's a non-fault issue, you might still receive payments during the appeal process depending on the specific issue.

Thanks for the specific info! My determination letter says "able and available" issue because they claimed I wasn't available for work during my last week at the previous job. Nothing about misconduct or overpayment. Do you know if that means payments might continue?

I work with PA UC appeals regularly. For the Feltonville service area, current wait times for phone hearings are running 3-5 weeks depending on complexity. "Able and available" issues typically mean benefits are suspended until resolved, unfortunately. However, if the referee rules in your favor, you'll receive all back payments. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims during the appeal process! Many people forget to do this, and then can't claim those weeks even if they win their appeal.

this is good advice about filing weekly claims!! i forgot to do this when i had my appeal and lost out on 3 weeks of payments even tho i won my case. the system should tell people this more clearly!!!

I had my appeal hearing back in November and I'm in the Feltonville area too. IT TOOK FOREVER!!! Almost 7 weeks for me and I was literally checking my mail every single day. And then when I finally got the notice, they only gave me 5 days notice before the actual hearing date! How is that fair?? The whole system is designed to make us give up, I swear. I was so stressed about money the entire time.

That's exactly what I'm worried about! 7 weeks is a really long time to go without income. Did you at least win your appeal after all that waiting?

Yes I did win but then it took another 2 weeks after the hearing to start getting paid again!! And they never explained WHY it took so long to schedule in the first place. Just "high volume of appeals" or whatever. The whole system is broken.

Have you tried calling the UC service center to ask about your appeal status? I kept getting busy signals for DAYS when I was trying to check on mine. Eventually I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a PA UC agent within 30 minutes after I'd been trying for two weeks on my own. They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent was able to tell me my exact hearing date even though I hadn't received the notice in the mail yet, which helped me plan better. They couldn't speed up the process but at least I knew what was happening.

does that service really work? i always get the busy signal when i call UC

Yes, it worked for me. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for over two weeks to get through. Got connected to an agent who actually looked up my case and gave me specific information.

I'm going thru this right now too!!! Applied for my hearing on Feb 10 and got my hearing date yesterday (Mar 5) so that's like... 3.5 weeks? But mines in NE Philly not Feltonville so maybe different? I dunno if the location even matters since everything is by phone now anyway??? Confusing system!

That's not too bad actually. Did you request a phone hearing specifically or was that just the default option? I'm hoping mine might be quicker since it's just me and no employer involved.

Phone was just what they gave me, I didn't request anything special. And yeah my employer isn't fighting it either. Good luck with yours!!!

To clarify something important - your hearing wait time is not determined by your physical address but by which UC Service Center is handling your claim. You can check which service center has your claim by logging into your PA UC dashboard. Feltonville area claims are typically handled by the Philadelphia Service Center, which currently has about a 4-week backlog for hearings. Also, whether your employer participates doesn't usually affect scheduling time - the system still reserves a spot for them even if they don't show up. But having a phone hearing instead of in-person can sometimes speed things up by 3-7 days.

Thanks for explaining! I just checked my dashboard and you're right, it's the Philadelphia Service Center handling my claim. So I should expect around 4 weeks then. I'll make sure to keep filing my weekly claims in the meantime.

my brother had appeal hearing last month and he waited 5 weeks but when he finally had the hearing the referee made decision right there on the phone and he got paid 2 days later. so sometimes its quick once you actually get the hearing
