PA UC first payment timing - will changing direct deposit info on payment date delay my 5-week lump sum?
Hey everyone, I'm super confused about the timing for my first PA unemployment payment. My payment date shows as the 8th (Thursday), but I'm wondering how long it actually takes to hit my account since that's pretty late in the week? This is my first payment and it should be 5 weeks worth at once (about $3,150). The thing is, I also updated my direct deposit info on the same day (the 8th) because I realized my old account number was wrong. Was that a terrible mistake? Will this delay everything even more? I'm getting really anxious because my landlord is already threatening late fees and I promised I'd have the money by next Tuesday latest. Has anyone had experience with changing bank info on the same day as a payment date? How much longer should I expect to wait now? Really appreciate any insights!

•10 days?! Omg I can't wait that long... my landlord is going to kill me. Did you have direct deposit or the debit card?

Changing your direct deposit information on the same day as your payment date was definitely not ideal timing. When you update banking details, the PA UC system typically puts a 2-3 business day hold on payments for security verification purposes. Since your payment date was Thursday the 8th, and you changed your banking info that same day, you're probably looking at your payment being processed early next week, likely Tuesday or Wednesday. First payments also have additional verification steps, which is why they often take longer than regular weekly payments. The 5-week lump sum won't be split up, but it may be delayed due to both factors combined. I'd recommend checking your payment status on the PA UC website daily. Look under 'Payment History' to see if it shows 'In Progress' or 'Paid'. Once it shows 'Paid', it typically takes 1-2 business days to hit your account.

•Thank you for the detailed information! That makes sense, even though it's stressful. I'll keep checking the payment status online. Really hoping it comes through by Wednesday at the latest.

When I had my first payment coming it took FOREVER with all these stupid "processing" delays. AND THEN I made the mistake of changing my address the same week and it delayed everything by another 7 days!!!! The system puts these stupid holds on everything for "fraud prevention" or whatever. So frustrating when you're broke and need the money NOW not in 2 weeks!!!!

•Exactly!!! They act like we're all trying to scam them when we're just trying to pay our bills. The whole PA UC system is designed to make us suffer I swear.

Having worked with PA UC cases for several years, I can clarify a few things: 1. First payments typically process within 2-3 business days after the payment date appears in your portal. Since your payment date was Thursday the 8th, you'd normally expect the deposit by Monday or Tuesday (the 12th or 13th). 2. However, changing direct deposit information initiates a security verification that adds 24-48 hours to the process. This is to prevent fraud. 3. For 5-week lump sum payments (which are common for first payments after the waiting week plus processing time), the system may add an additional review, especially if the amount exceeds $3,000. Based on this, I'd estimate your payment will arrive in your new account by Wednesday the 14th at the latest, barring any other issues with your claim. If you need to confirm this timeline or address any problems, you'll need to speak directly with a UC representative.

•Thank you so much for this clear explanation. Wednesday the 14th would be cutting it close with my landlord but at least I have a timeline now. I'll try to call them tomorrow to see if I can get confirmation.

Have you tried calling PA UC to check on this? Maybe they can expedite things if you explain about your landlord situation. Just my 2 cents.

•I've been trying to call all day but just keep getting busy signals or the automated message saying call volumes are too high. It's so frustrating!

If you're struggling to get through to a PA UC representative, you might want to try Claimyr. I was in a similar situation last month - desperate to talk to someone about my delayed payment and kept getting busy signals for days. A friend recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it actually worked! They got me connected to a PA UC agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I got through to an agent, they were able to tell me exactly when my payment would arrive and why it was delayed (there was a verification hold). Gave me peace of mind at least knowing what was happening.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I was considering just driving to the UC office tomorrow but this might be easier. I'll check out the video. At this point I just need to know exactly when to expect the money so I can talk to my landlord.

btw did u make sure u selected direct deposit and not the Money Network card? cuz my friend thought he signed up for direct deposit but actually got the card by accident and had to wait another week for it to come in the mail

•Omg I didn't even think of that! Just double checked and it does say direct deposit is my payment method and shows the last 4 digits of my new account. So at least I didn't mess that up!

Just to add one more thing - after your first payment comes through, subsequent weekly payments are much faster and more predictable. Once your direct deposit info is verified in the system, regular weekly payments typically hit your account within 1-2 business days of the payment date showing in your portal. So while this first one is stressful with the waiting and timing issues, it gets much better going forward. Hang in there!

•That's reassuring to hear, thank you! I think I'll try using Claimyr tomorrow to talk to someone directly so I can get a definite answer about the timing. I'll update here when I know more in case it helps someone else in the future.

My first payment took exactly 5 business days after the payment date showed up in my portal. And I didn't even change any banking info. The PA UC system is just ridiculously slow! But the good news is once you get that first payment, the rest come like clockwork. Every week on the same day for me.

UPDATE: I was able to speak with a UC rep this morning (used Claimyr and got through in about 30 mins). They confirmed my payment is scheduled to be deposited tomorrow! The rep said changing the direct deposit info did cause a short verification hold, but since it's been processed now, I should see the funds by tomorrow afternoon. Such a relief - just in time to pay my landlord.
